Just saw the thread. Very sorry to hear your loss. I know how it feels, I mushed up the front of my prstine Civic hatchback--such a loss.

Good to hear that you have some money to reapir/get a new car, though.

I can't and wont ditch the 323. It runs great. I drove it today to school and work without any problem. After the initial "ohh man don't look at my car please!" embarrassment on the way to school, I didn't care anymore. I actually started laughing about it and showing people. Surprizes the crap out of them because they know I keep my car mint.
So anyway it'll get fixed. I still plan on getting another car ASAP, and in a local AutoMart catalog thingy there was a "1988" 626, which was a '87 5 door, clean white/red interior, factory Mazda ground effects and spoiler, 90K miles on it, they want $600 down so I might call them to find out the full price. With all of the 626 stuff my brother has, and the fact that the Kia Sportage FE3 engine(170hp) is a complete bolt up, I might just do it. Would be ultra cool and rare.

Yeah, get it fixed. Don't spend too much money though. I'm driving a `93 Accord which got smashed in a parking garage. I screwed up and didn't get it paid for, so now I'm living with it. I did get a quote, over a grand for one stinking quarter pannel. I need to find a nice small shop that'll bend it around for me.

You'll get over the embarrasment to a degree, but you'll still feel ****ty about it. It never goes away. Part of life ... kiss a girl and you'll forget about it for a while.

One more post! Best look out man, I'm on your heals (:

Don't know, I never got a ticket.

So I'm still ticket free. That's good.

Doug I'd have thought your post was to bash me for thinking about getting a '87 626...

Noo. The beloved 323 is gone. :indiff:

Well, best of luck man. Gope you can get that fixed. My brother did that kind of similar damage too. Except he also nearly took off the passenger side rear-view mirror.

I've pulled out in front of a woman who hit me, and rear ended another - I did not get a ticket for either. What I have been told is if no one is injured they will not give you a ticket. Property damage doesn't constituite such action, apparently. Not in my state anyway.

The first woman was pregnant and had three kids in the car. I was pretty scared something really bad was going to come of that, but I never heard from her again. Her car showed no signs of damage.

The second woman's car was a Buick, build like a tank, and also I didn't hit her very hard. I thought it would blow over and nothing would come of it. I was wrong. She sued me for $90,000. "NINETY THOUSAND DOLLARS! IS SHE INSANE!?" -- apparently she was ... and the judge agreed. He said "No." and that was the end of that.

All of the Mazdas you're looking at are crap. If you'd just open your horizons a bit you could literally get something infinitely better. Not saying Mazdas are crap, just the ones you can afford are.

The 6 wagon clearly needs all-wheel drive to be a competitor.

hey mazkid, don't rush into buying a new car. take your and save your money. look at all the cars in your price range. some look pretty cool on paper but when you go see them and there owners :scared: i've looked at a few cars that seemed cool on paper. one was a 91 taurus sho ($1800 obo). the guy told it was a great car with 120k on it, but when i got there......omg. it was a quart low on oil, the oil pan was covered in oil, the paint was faded and there was hail damage everywhere. so just take your time and rememeber your ganna look at alot of crap before you find the right car.

Eh, I think I know what you're saying, and I have to agree. I thought about getting my busted `93 fixed up, but realized that the cost of fixing it was about the same as three payments on a new car, so I opted to leave it be. That way I'm that much closer to a new car ... or rather, not that much further behind on getting a new car.

Yeah, well I was going to buy a new car anyway, wreck or no wreck. Unfortunately the 323 needs to go to the body shop as the B-pillar is pushed in about 2 inches so I'll need something to drive. After calling the place with the 626 5 door it's a stick and the guy wants $2495 for it but I can talk him down. My dad doesn't want me to get it, but when I brought up the fact that I'll need something to drive while the 323 is down, he didn't sound enthused about allowing me to drive the RX-7. So, in other words, I'm screwed til someone sells something worth while.

Heh, I'm ahead of you by about 13,000 miles (21,000 km) on my Accord. Amazing how long cars last these days.

The Vanishing Boy
-> I know, someone crashed his Eclipse by racing me on Seven Hills (a narrow semi-twisty road in a subdivision, whose the speed limit is 25 mph, driving at 50 is already scary to the average driver). He was trying to pass me while I'm already cruising @ 55 mph, and this guy without thinking passes me and stared me bad (thinking that he owns the road or something), then we both gun it. While we both doing 75 mph neck-&-neck (but I was pulling ahead a little), then we are about to aproach this corner (a 2% grade downhill and medium curve to the left), that time I wasn't that knowlegable on the road. I downshifted using double-clutching to third (I was hanging at 4th during the race), then he braked putting me to the lead, then I tapped on the brake to prevent understeer (a common trait to FF-cars), while that guy understeered, hit the gutter, spun out, and hitting a tree on the drivers side. Right now he's driving a crappy Sunfire, and after for a few weeks someone picked my driver side window by an ice pick or a screwdriver, I suspected that it was him for being a sore loser. 👎 :grumpy:

👍

You and that guy in the Eclipse are awsome.

Nah! That's a 3rd gen you got, the one I'm looking at is a 2nd gen. This:

Cept the one I'm looking at is white with what appears to be the Mazda "Finish Line" accessory ground effects and spoiler. Looks pretty cool and with a 2000+ Kia Sportage 2L(ok, so I don't want to admit that I'm looking into a Kia engine, but it's based off of a Mazda design), you get 170hp stock. And my brother can get that engine for $450.

Well looks like I'm going to let the 626 idea go. I realize that it's not what I really want. So I'll have to wait until someone actually sells one of the 2 or 3 cars I'd rather have.

Dude! The Kia Sportage came out in 1995; in its debut year it had a 93-horsepower 2.0L OHC four. Beginning in 1996 and every year until it was cancelled, it had a 130-horsepower 2.0L DOHC four. Hell, I'm looking at the 2002 book right now. It never had 170hp or anything close! We've been over this! In fact, as it stands right now, a Korean four-cylinder has never produced more than 138 horsepower.

Point being, you'd be better off leaving the stock engine inside.

That 93hp is the same as the stock 626 2L. My brother knew what he was talking about, I donno if he's talking about something else or what not.
It doesn't matter now Doug, you should be happy that I'm not getting that 626.
