I've got more time to write about it now. So here goes.
She's in GREAT condition. The paint is flawless. It runs flawlessly. The interior is immaculate. All black. None of that nasty red lots of Corvettes have. It's got some run flat tires with 4,000 miles on them. Can't think of the brand right now. The only problem with the car is that the front tire pressure monitoring systems actuators are bad and it won't tell me the front wheels pressures. I can deal with that. The car is completely stock except for the exhaust pipes. They were originally black but the previous owner had chrome ones put on. No difference in the exhaust note. Nor will I ever make it loud. I'm not into all of that. I'd rather a person hear my engine than my exhaust.
I picked it up from a nice gentlemen who was in trouble with his bills. I got it for a steal of a price. I expected to spend somewhere around $15,000 for my first car. Didn't have to. I just had to wait a while and it all seemed to fall into place. So, I met with the gentlemen in northern Tennessee. Took it on a nice 30 minute test drive and couldn't find a thing wrong with it. I took a friend of mine who's a mechanic and he found nothing wrong either. I told the owner I'd take. Handed him cash and left him there with his wife and two kids. In their Kia Spectra. It must have been tough on the man seeing his black baby driving off, never to see it again.
Boy did I have a wonderful trip home. The first thing I did was take the top off. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was more excited than I've ever been. I'm driving a Corvette! I'd never even sat in one until the day I bought it. I got to drive through the Tennessee mountains hugging turns and getting thumbs up from motorists along the way. A few semi truck drivers gave me a horn blow and a smile. It was amazing. I never thought before getting the car about how many looks I'd get. It's a lot different than driving and sharing a Ford Explorer with my twin. It gave me a good chance to play with the touring mode, sport mode, and performance mode settings. All of which you can completely tell a difference. Touring mode is great for reducing the severity of bumps in the road. The wheel loosens up and it's just a relaxation mode. I hate it. The wheel is not as stiff and I don't feel the car like I'd like to. Sport mode tightens the wheel for a more intimate feel for the car. The bumps are harder for sure though. Performance mode makes the wheel extra stiff and you feel everything you're doing in this mode. It's hard to explain but I feel a difference in all settings.
Once back in town I had a really good time. I know the safer places to act a fool and so I did. I went out to an old road only used by truckers for the Budweiser plant. It's about a mile long straight line. I got to the stop sign to enter onto the road which was on my right. I punched off the traction control and flipped it to performance mode. Then I turned my wheel slightly right and gased it. Boy, did I not understand what I was getting into. Before I knew it, I had spun the car half way around and then some. I was now facing the direction I'd just come from. It was awesome. I was laughing hard with excitement. I tried it again the same way, but without so much gas. This time, I put the gas down maybe half way. I started with the entire back end of the car sliding as I started to take down the road. I had her spinning tires and sliding for a good 4-5 seconds before I let off because I was to scared to keep it going. Anyhow, I got her up to 140mph. She would have done more and it was easy to tell. Having never gone that fast it was hard to tell how fast this road was going to end. Never will I go that fast again. I just had to get it out of my system. And I did. Since then, I've pushed it to 105mph on the interstate. No more.
I'll post a few pictures from my phone. I'll post better ones when I can find my good cameras USB cable. Sorry for the crappy pics, better ones to come!
