Brought her home on Jan. 12th before they salted the roads up here in Northern IL. The clutch is the hardesnt thing to get used to because it has a small deadzone in it. But I'll take care of that soon enough :)

I have lots of plans for it. Aluminum block 5.4L from the GT. Better supercharger pulley, Borla catback exhaust. Edelbrock "Shorty" headers, sequential taillights from Shelby Automoblies. Eibach coilovers and strut bars, Brembo Big Brake kit, and I plan to move the battery to the back of the car for better weight distrubtion

Congratulations, although I hate the '05+ Mustangs. Hell, I hate all Mustangs(owned a heavily modded '03 Cobra for a tad over 2 years).

Good luck with it, though.

You lucky devil. Im jealous.

...You just couldn't wait for the Camaro or Challenger, could you? (lol)

Nice car, but it has been pretty widely known around here that I'm not the biggest fan of this particular Cobra as compared to previous models. IMO, if I was shopping for Mustangs I would have waited for the next "special" model to roll down the line, be it a Bullitt or BOSS 302 model. They were always my favorites, however don't tell anyone that this GM guy said that...

Wow, that's a great looking car.

Now go get a set of 19 inch Foose rims--say, 19x9 in front and 19x10 or so out back--and some better tires, just to compliment the suspension parts you're planning on. :D

Nice car! Love the plates - are you an LEO or just trying to win favor with them? :D

Beautiful car. :)👍 I love the Shelby’s offset cobra badge.

As my friend here EBiggs would tell you, I've always have and will be a Ford man (note the two explorers in the background) though I do own 2 Chevys also, but I do llike the Challenger and Camaros but I love this car...I had wait 9 months patiently (my SVT "friends" couldn't get my order pulled faster) for it so I'm going to enjoy it.:dopey:

Yea tires would be great but I'm not sure how much further I could practically go since the car already has 255mm Goodyear Eagle Supercar tires from the factory. If anyone has any suggestions on tires or mods I would love to hear them because I may just do it :). BTW I'm also look to put a 3.55 rear end in to get rid of the tire chirping during a hard launch.

P.S. Thanks for all the congrats. If you're ever in the Chicagoland area let me know and I might let you ride in it.

And M5, THANKS! I had to register those plates (I gotta put the front one in soon, damn state law) before I even had the car on order because it was a special run. It was odd having the license plates with "COBRA" on my '82 Z28 for almost a year! bit no I'm not a Leo to answer you're question :). The plates just stand for Law Enforcement...I'm hoping (if there are any IL State Troopers out there don't read this part,) that the stingy cops in this state will give me a break

Very nice! Congratulations on your purchase. Keep us posted as she gets her goodies!

What do you do for a living to afford that? You don't look over 22 years old. I'm not questioning that you have the car nor insulting your age, I'm just curious.

Very nice guess on the age! I just turned 22 last June.

I am a mechanic full time and do a few races in SCCA in my spare time.

I've been working on cars with and without an automotive repair degree since I was 15

Thats a sick ride. I am definetly jealous too. I love racing stripes and I really like that hood. :) You dont live too far from me. You should bring it up some time to one of our road track events in Michigan. Grattan Raceway and Gingerman Raceway are the tracks I run on. You would probably be in the same class as me. First thing I would do is remove that license plate holder from the front of your car.

Sweet new ride. BTW where in Chicagoland are you located? I go to school in Lincoln Park as well as in the Loop. I live further south though.

Now imagine all the chicks you're gonna pull in that thing!

With 475lb/ft, I can imagine ALOT! :p

Looks awesome!

I can never got an options sheet from my Ford dealer unless I want to order one, so do you remember what any were?

Sadly, I probably could have easily dished out the extra dough for one of these instead of my TL, however, I would have never gotten the same deals on it.

WOW, im REALLY jealous good work on snagging a GT500 whats the top speed on it?

Bad ride!:sly: Is this the Ford Shelby Mustang GT500? Very jealous right now.

I like some of the ideas you have for tuning it especially replacing the iron block. I was thinking, instead of moving the battery it may be worth fitting a dry cell car battery, less than half the weight, pluss they work better under G. You could loose the catalytic converter with a test/bypass pipe too. Some Iridium spark plugs and some 10mm racing ignition leads are always good. Forget bigger alloy wheels and stick with your Eagle F1 tyres man, they'll do the business. Your ideas will increase steering, braking and throttle response. Those strut bars you mentioned, get lower strut bars for front and rear. If you fit upper rear strut bar it will upset your boot space. I have them fitted into all my 3 cars but it's a pain fitting things around them in the boot.

What kind of power are you expecting on the tuned end? 550+/-? Any ideas on shaving some weight? I think that weight loss is going to benefit you loads. Maybe some CF, bonnet and front panels, would help the weight distribution too. How about a CF prop shaft, I'm sure you could have a Titanium/CF shaft custom made.

Since you're a car mechanic by trade I'm sure you know exactly what you're doing.;)👍

Seriously though, I do, but also congrats on the sweet ride. You seem to be in the right direction with the modifications (as time consuming and expensive as they are) but when its done (are they ever really "finished"?!) you will definitely be the envy of everyone on the street. 👍

Thanks for the link to the tires, Keef! I'll look into those for the next set and see if they are an improvement.

Camaroboy, I usually get up to MI once every two years, so I'll try to get up there this year.

Boz, I live west of Chicago in Westchester.

GTRacer, I would pick up some chicks in it but I doubt my gf would appreciate it. ;)

I. am. Jealous.

Perhaps in '09 I'll be making enough to get a Challenger.....Or pay off student loans.

*sigh* 'guess I'll be getting a virgin Hachiroku for the next car...

Those are excellent ideas Cobra.
That battery I idea is good because its going to be a pain to move the it to the back.

I'll be rebuilding the whole engine anyway when I get the Aluminum block so I'll definately make it "race ready" with everything you said and then some.

I can get around emissions with my insurance as my company allows it to be registered as a 2007 1967 Shelby remake. :sly: Therefore I could go straight exhaust but I like the sound of the Edelbrocks but I'll check and see if they make a bypass pipe to go along with the kit.

First thing I'm going to do to the throttle when I get around to it is reduce the play in it. It has a tendency to "jump" a little. Being electronic, it jumps from about 1% to 20% sometimes. So I'll have to go into the computer for that.

I'm hoping somewhere of upwards of 600 HP as the Ford GT motor is underrated at 550 HP. My aim will be around 650 at the crank and 615-625 at the wheels.

The strut bars may be a problem with space but I think the car needs the rear end stiffened to be driveable on slick roads

I'm looking at getting Shelby's custom carbon mirrors painted body color and a carbon fiber front fascia. But from there, any CF, titanium, or aluminum drivetrain components and internals will have to be self made by myself or some kind of engine shop, but since you bring those parts up I'm interested in looking into how much that might cost me.

Thanks for the ideas....adding more madness to my plans:dopey: :)

Finished!? NEVER!:D

hmmm... possibly the ultimate mustang please post pics of it when you start building it up.

Electronic throttle? Ugghh. The worst things ever invented. I'm not just picking on your car, but pretty much all new cars. I'd love to get a new performance car when I can afford one, but I can't stand the though t of having to deal with and e-throttle. I can launch, shift, and rev-match my Sol, and even my dad's old Ranger, and smooth as pie, but I can't drive my buddies' Cobalt S/C or Mazda 3 worth a poop. I've been conditioned to expect the gas to go when you tell it to, ya know?

So how much is your insurance per month? And your car payments? And why oh why are you planning on molesting the car? The fact that you are already planning on stuffing another engine in it not only makes the car less valuable as a collectable but ruins the Shelby-ness of it. Granted this is just my opinion and I'm woefully outnumbered here--but you do understand that you ARE ruining a Shelby Mustang. Why couldn't you of just bought a Mustang GT and done the same things with it? It would of been easily $25k~35k cheaper that way--and that's considering the Shelby bodywork already purchased. I just don't get it. 👎 :grumpy:

Wow, that's a seriously nice looking car, congrats on the purchase 👍

Are you doing all the mods with track work in mind or is this going to be one hell-of-a-tough street 'Stang?
