You are correct in that people have modded the GT500 already and that they treat it as a regular Mustang. That is precisely my problem. It ISN'T a regular Mustang, it is infact not only my favorite Mustang namesake but one of the best Mustangs ever. No one under the age of 35 will truely understand the worth of the Shelby GT500 NAME much less the entire car. I say it is a generational thing. And you are right, it IS a "freaking" car. And I am all for enjoying it--to a point. In it's stock form enjoy it to your heart's content.

I understand the history and lineage behind the car, and at the risk of turning this into another "GT500 versus everything else" thread, the new GT500 doesn't come close to living up to the name. Regardless of whether R8man owns the car or not, every single thing he said about doing to it fixes the glaring flaws the GT500 has, from high understeer to piss-poor weight balance. If that is ruining a car so be it. It's the same philosophy behind resto-rods, and my opinion remains the same: if you are making the car better than it was stock in quite a noticable way, who the hell cares if it isn't completely original. If I put four-wheel ABS disc brakes on a '67 Camaro, it sure as hell is going to make the car better. Is he going to sell it at an auction in 40 years?
 
$55k? Why spend so much money on plastic, sort-of quick yet very slow through a bend, dead-heavy sluggish cars? You can get TVR Sagarii (issus?) on the secondhand market for that price.

I'm calling blunder on this purchase.

And last I checked, it had handling ability as well as straight line ability (not some of one and none of the other). As did the GT350, 289 Cobra and, hell, even the Shelby Shadow CSX.

If Maserati were to come out with a new, ugly, heavy, slow roadster with stripes over the top - personally licked into shape by Pininfarina - I still wouldn't buy it. You're willing to pay money for a brandname, that's just frightening.

Please realise that the old GT500 '67 version is a piece of automotive history, but surely this isn't. They're bringing out 100 Opel GT Roadsters, is that going in the history books?

That is an V8 Vantage V600. Everything the GT500 should have been.

Yeah, and that comes with a great car for your money. Can you get better cars for your money? Yeah. Can you get better performing cars than the GT500 for you money? Sure as hell. Except the GT500 isn't a very good performing car, so the analogy is rather flawed.

I actually disagree with most of what you're saying, JCE, which is rare.

For one, this statement:

That's just closed-minded. There's no way he can prove he's not lying if you won't give him some sort of benefit of the doubt. There's got to be some way he can prove he's not lying.

Furthermore, I've already seen several Shelby GT500s. I don't really know how rare they are, but they're not the automotive God that you and Der Alta seem to think they are. And remember, people modify just about everything, no matter how rare - Hennessey has put custom exhausts on a Veyron, McLaren F1 owners refuse to stop modifying their cars, I've seen Lamborghinis and Ferraris with aftermarket chrome wheels... it's not too far-fetched to think he'd want to add more performance to a performance car.

However, regarding this statement:

If that's true, then I would consider him a liar too. But I consider him innocent until proven guilty - that's how it should be.

And he asked to be banned. He was getting into arguments with laptimes and asked to be banned so somebody else wouldn't have to do it for him.

Considering he told me when he ordered the Shelby (many months ago..I wasn't sure it was ever going to come in..) and the color choice, I can't say he's lieing at all. I've known him for a couple of years now.

Also, if he did photoshop those pictures, he did them all. He owns the two Explorers (I think they are both his...) and that Tahoe.
 
so the guy is a mechanic??? well then he wouldn't have a problem taking something off the car that any owner would not let anyone touch...say a wheel or a number plate....ps: wouldn't the shelby plate be worth a S@%%load aswell? even more money on top of the car...

also i'm 21 and i fully understand and appreciate the heritage and history os shelby...plus i'm not even an american, PLUS i don't really like muscle....

oh and moving the battery to back for better W/D on a car that probably weighs over 1.5 tonne....hahahahhahhahahhahhahahahhahhhahahhahahhahhahahhahhahahhahhahahhahhahahhahahhaha

Please provide the pics he requested, the proof of the production number, user's manual + handwriten GTPlanet.net along with your name on a sheet of paper under the wiper, on the valve covers/intake, and whatever other pictures he requested. :)

...and please try and not get so defensive in future, after all if your telling the truth, the you have nothing to get defensive about at all. Personally I have no opinion yet on the truthfulness of your claim, but I'm sure you are aware of just how easy it can be to make claims like this on GT Planet or the web in general, and plenty of people have made ownership claims here in the past, some can back them up and some can't.

c'mon r8 some of us want to believe you but that isn't enough now, you,ve had if someone questioned me i would want to prove them wrong even if they did insult me. All you have to do is read the past couple pages to see exactly what they want.
 
I would absolutely love to be pwned because of this. I"ve seen way too many ludicrous claims of people owning different vehicles.

36 hours seems like a seriously long time to scribble your name and "Gtplanet" on a piece of paper, walk out to your driveway and snap a pic, then upload it.

I'll even pay for premium so that you have extra attachment space in case your at your limit.

As others have stated above, I was not being rude. If I were to let this one slide, soon we'd have every 15 year old claiming to own incredible cars, and GTPlanet would be one step up from the GT section of Automotive forums.

No, I won't stand by and let that happen. It will become a point, that when someone makes a ludicrous claim, they'll be called on it. If you can come up with the pics, and prove the claim, I'm more than happy to eat my words. Done it before, and I'll likely do it again. However, when a claim is posted, people step up an prove it. After a while, very few will post wild claims.

That is all I'm politely asking for. Proof in the form of pictures, that you indeed do own this car. Of which I've already asked for. You've got 36 hours from this post https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2545939&postcount=39 5:09am this morning.
 
hahhahahaahahhahahhahha must be common idiots then....there is absolutely no point to wasting your money on that kind of mod unless every last bit of weight matters... on a standard car there is a hundred other things you could do that would cost little to nothing that would do a million times better job...
 
I don't think because he wants to move the battery to the trunk hes an idiot... even if its only 30 pounds its 30 pounds well spent thats certainly not hurting anything. if he wanted to spend money moving the battery from a bmw back up front then i would call him an idiot.
 
36 hours?! In 36 hours I could have two R-34 Skylines, two Porsche GT3 cup cars, GSC Motorsports 750rwhp Supra, and their Evo VIII time attack race car, a procharged Z06, and an Aston Martin DB7 vert. parked in my driveway with pictures of them claiming they're mine. 36 hours?! Ghey.

I took pics of signs with milefile's name, and Concept(now known as Jacks)'s name on my '03 Cobra when I had it within like 2 minutes. This is ludicrous.
 
And don't forget "Rumpulator Ownz Me" on the valve cover of my wife's 2.4-swapped Neon. That was done in 10 minutes. I think he had that as his avatar for a while.
 
Unfortunately now that I've read all of his old posts I'm going to have to agree that the likely hood of this being his car isn't very high right now. He said things very similar to what hes saying now the last time he lied...:indiff:

anyone can pose...anyone can put a lil' sign on the car... but how many people can take parts off the car? believe me my car ain't that expensive but nobody is takin nothin off but the ashtray to empty it

I was about to congratulate you on the purchase of this great car, but I think I agree with DA as well. 36 hours is little bit unbelievable.
 
Has anyone considered the 36 hour lag time is due to the fact that unlike all of us, he doesn't check GTP every minute of every day?

EDIT: By the way, I agree with everyone here. He's lying. But I'm just surprised no one considered that.

Well, whether or not he owns it i am still insanely jealous of anyone who owns one, as that is (to me) pretty close to the best looking car ever. 👍

he should have said 'you should learn some grammar' not 'you should learn some proper grammar' as this in itself is bad grammar...either way he's a moron for saying that as, oh say about 1 billion people on the internet don't use correct grammar....not coz they don't know grammar but all you are doing is getting a message across, not winning a class competition...duh!!!
