It's not your fault, Jordan, or vB's - naturally it's AOL's.

I can still receive PM's, I just can't send them. When I try I get a statement telling me that AOL can't load the page and I must click re-load. When I click re-load, nothing is sent.

So, send me PM's out the arse; see if I care. I won't reply though. I'll find a way...

...maybe the news and announcements forum; nobody uses that.

This isn't really a plea for help thread, just a notice.

Oh, and I can only attach images about half the time to my messages. I get the same message when attaching. Though that really only affects me, and I really don't care about that since sn00p's storage thread works fine in that regard.

Oh yes - this does mean I can't send out the ticker anymore.

I discovered the problem when trying to send today's ticker, though it had been a minor problem for a few days.

Bad for you, Good for the people you are sending PMs to.

I don't get what the problem is. Have you tried it using Internet Explorer?

I would, but I hate having so many programs running at once. I'm sure it works with IE, too, but that takes so much effort...

Whiskey dick rules.

IE sucks, I hate it. You have to have forty different windows open just to do simple things that AOL has.

Yeah, ditch AOL. Honestly, everybody i know has junked 'em sooner or later for similar sorts of problem ass the one you're talking about.

It's great if you have pre teens in the house but apart from that......

Yeah, Doug, I have to join in with the throng here.

All together now:

Get a real ISP!!!

Doug it's just you. My AOL works just dandy and as you saw I sent you a PM and it worked. It's just you, not AOL.

;)

Yes people I'm an AOL user too, 8.0 like Doug, and I honestly like it. Easy to use, best IM system, lots of options, it's good. Sure AOL screws up some times, but not enough to ditch it.

AOL was good in its day, before local ISPs had a market.

Now, AOL prays on the ignorant (no offense, look up the word), and the people who are scared of the Internet. There is nothing that AOL gives you that you cannot get elsewhere for free on the 'Net.

I am scared of the Internet!

I wish John still went around these forums, he'd back me up. I'm too scared to even get broadband!! I'm so scared! Ignorant also.

One of my neighbors just bought a brand new Navigator. It's pretty nice, but I see no real improvement over the last one, except for the chrome wheels.

I'm going with my girlfriend to Williamsburg, Virginia from December 20 to December 23, so Talentless be warned, I'll find you. Fackin' grrr!

Getting back to AOL, let me say that I have owned each AOL except seven since 3.0 and I've absolutely loved it. I've got no real problems (No PM's for a few days until it automatically corrects itself? What a loss.) and it's relatively cheap. Nothing could get me to switch.

Are the chrome wheelzzz 1337????

Seriously M5Power, you have to consider what you're paying for and what you're getting.

Personally, I want a pipe to the internet, and then I want to be left alone. I don't want to look at some ISP's content, and I never really got into the whole ISP Portal thing.

Fundamentally, AOL spends a lot more on advertising and content provision than other ISPs, so are YOU getting value for money? Would you rather your cash was put into a faster infrastructure for example? I used to be with UUNET, because they spent all their money on bandwidth, and virtually all their customers were recommended by other customers. I want speed and reliability, and I don't want anything else.

My ISP gives me 50MB web space and 5 mailboxes. Amount of web space in use? 0%. Amount of mailboxes in use? 2. But they only receive ISP admin messages. For me, it's all about the provision of bandwidth.

If you're happy with your service, stay where you are, but consider that if you're not using the AOL content, then you may do better spending your dollars on a company that's not wasting them on 'free' CDs and other advertising.

Blah, AOL rocks, me and Doug are pioneers...like the last pioneers. You wait AOL will become a big power with AOL 14.0 mark my words.

naa...AOL is good crap though. I love it.

Someonw should start a "Browsers Wars" thread. :p

I'll have to chime in with everyone else too... though I am not by any means a computer geek, AOL is... yuck IMO. Look at the current setup I'm running-- Bigvalley ISP, which only charges $100 a year (that's less than 10 bucks a month for unlimited access, folks!), and then I have Mozilla's Chimera Navigator, which is a free download (and it's a browser that is much faster than Internet Explorer, proven by consumers and magazines). So why pay over 2x as much for yucky service? ;)

AOL sucks by the sounds of it and I'm using Netscape 7 (which is built on Mozilla) which is fairly good. You get heaps of extras with Netscape 7 when you install it. You can skin the browser.

The only part I don't like about it is, unlike Mozilla and Opera, you can't block pop-ups. But, Opera sucks because it keeps performing illegal errors - I thought IE was bad and Mozilla you can't do much with.

Heh heh... Mozilla's developers were nice enough to make a Mac OSX exclusive browser (Chimera) that is by far the fastest browser for Macintosh (beats IE hands-down). Mainly, it's a small, simple browser-- doesn't have all of the junk to carry around that its cousins have.

I'm sorry to hear about that, M5. Have you at least tried it once with IE?

No, but I will reply to the *ahem* idiots who PMed me with messages stating "Haha, you can't PM" through IE, and any important messages I get from then on.

Has anyone ever noticed that IE goes much faster than AOL?
Um, well, there's another reason to switch... :smilewink
