👍 nice. lemme know when you get it up and running. I bought the wireless adapter when i bought my xbox. yeah its an expensive little piece (125 bucks) but i already have a wireless router hooked up to my network but my computer room and tv room are on completey opposite sides of the house so i didnt feel like trying to run 200 feet of cat5 cable thru the attic. just makes things much more easier

well, its friday, and as i said, im online as of...NOW! weeee! gamertag is kinigitt. i own the following xbox live games (in case you want a break from pgr2...not likely): ghost recon: island thunder, rainbow six 3 (OHHH YEAHHHHH!!!) mechassault, and...thats it, till i get crimson skies or midtown madness. see you online!!!

man... i wish i had high speed internet . playing PGR2 online just sounds fun so hopfully ill get it at some point

OOHHHH it is!!! i just beat a bunch of hillbillies 3 times in a row. then they started a conspiracy and started ramming me into walls. damn hicks. oh yeah.

GT4 has plenty to worry about. Sure it's going to sell like hotcakes on the PS2 platform, but it still won't be the best online racing experience. I could be wrong mind you, but just the xbox live interface alone puts anything going online with PS2 behind the times from the start.

Of course, i'm going to buy GT4 and and adapter for my PS2. Heck, its the only reason my PS2 hasn't been traded in already. I seriously would get rid of my PS2 and the few games I have kept for it if it were not for GT4. I think the game will deliver a great experience, but I seriously doubt it will match the amount of fun online i'm having with Project Gotham Racing 2 right now.

And as far as XBOX 2 vs. PS3 is concerned, Sony and Polyphony have plenty to be worried about. The market isn't exclusive to Sony anymore. Microsoft has made one whale of a statement this fall/winter with the sheer number of top notch XBOX Live games released. This year is a defining moment in my opinion, in the validity of consoles competing online (minus nintendo of course), but the lines have definitely been drawn for the next round of consoles. And XBOX Live is coming up in spades compared to PS2 online. Its not even close.

Who's to say PGR3 doesn't move even closer to GT style gameplay next year as well? But again, i'm not trying to totally trash GT4, its going to be a qualiby game. We all know that. But to make a blanket comment like Polyphony has nothing to worry about is to take away from the brilliance that is PGR2. And I just don't think that's right.

(I'm not on 24/7, due to me being a college student. But this week is finals week, so you'll catch me on plenty in the next month or so. My online rank is currently 13 and I own virtually all the cars minus a few classics and the Mercedes and TVR Speed 12, which i'm working on getting.):D

dont play much and youre a 13? sounds like you play enough to me. haha. Im a 17 right now, i need about...129,000 more kudos yet before i rank up to an 18 :( Man it was a sad night last night. I friggin killed half a bottle of that bacardi long island ice tea stuff, and i was still beating the **** out of everyone. I dont think they were all REALLY racing tho, we were just having a good time telling jokes and messing w/ the voice masking and stuff. i dont think ive ever laughed so much in my life. i love this game :)

Do you guys know about how to change the paint jobs on some of the vehicles that don't have many to choose from? I accidently did this on my own about 4 or 5 days ago, and then I found a thread in a xbox forum about someone that had the same thing happen to him. Well, this guy took the time to try some things out and he nailed dead on, on how to accomplish this feat intentionally.

If anyone is interested, i'd be happy to post the instructions on how to do this. I know its nothing major, but its nice to be able to Race with the Porsche GT1 in something other than white.

And yeah, i do play online often enough, but its nothing compared to what i'll spend online over the holiday break. I can't wait. IDAFC21, be sure and look me up online. I'll give you plenty of competition. Matter of fact, i'll guarantee you don't have to hit the bottle to get a good race out of me. :) ROFL.

I went out and bought an xbox specifically for this game @ the weekend....mainly because of the Nurburg ring (Green Hell) given it a good caining up to now about rank 23, in 4 days :)

Current best lap round the ring is in a porsche GT3 @7'58.xxx the real GT3 has lapped the ring in 7'56

Getting to grips with the AI is a real pain, one race in track specials on hard (at the ring) I haven't even finished because I keep getting spun out :( The slightest touch and your history

At the moment I'm considering the whole LIVE racing side of this, currently don't have broadband @ home but is it worth all the extra money???

IDAFC21 what is an online race like?? what sort of etiquette is employed by the drivers? I don't want to get involved in a complete barge fest but after all a little contact is OK this is an arcade racer.

good lord you scared me for a second there, when you said rank 23 i thought you were talking about your LIVE rank, but youre talking about your single player rank. Youd have to be playing online 24/7 to get a rank 23 in 4 days, if thats even possible, hehe.

Anyways about LIVE, it adds a whole new dimmension to the game. If i didnt have live, I know i wouldnt play the game as much as i do. As for how the racers behave online, it all depends on who you race w/. me and my friend have found a pretty good group that we usually race w/ all the time, but yes there are those people out there that dont know what brakes are, and like you use you as a guard rail, or will try to put you in a wall if you make a run on them. it sucks, but for the MOST part people seem to behave pretty well. And yes, the AI in this game is VERY dirty, they can be so frustrating at times. The worst one is when the cars in the OVERTAKE challenges try to take you out. That really pisses me off. But you pretty much just have to resort to their level and be as dirty as they are to put em in their place. But yeah, if you can afford broadband get it, if anything, just to get rid of that lousy dial-up ;) And LIVE is about 50 bucks a year, which i think is a very fair price to pay, considering how many LIVE enabled games are out there right now.

cheers IDA ......good info

I actually made a mistake I got to rank 27 in 4 days (haven't really got a clue how that stacks up)

Realised 've actually played the earliest version of this game...Metropolis street racer on the Dreamcast.....

Don't really enjoy the overtakes and street racing as much as hot laps and timed runs due to the dirty AI

The cones are good fun untill you've got a great combo going and clip one whilst trying a huge powerslide

Looks like I'm going to have to find the money to get broadband being based in the UK the cost are probably a bit higher than in the states...30 quid a month for the connection, 70-100 for a modem and of course 40 for the starter pack.....

Yup, MSR was the first incarnation of this game on dreamcast, and i HATED that game. The graphics were sweet (for that time) but the gameplay was just horrible. I was skeptical when the first PG came out on xbox, but they REALLY improved the gameplay and made it a sweet game, and PG2 is even better than the PG :) Cant wait to see what they do w/ PG3

Hopefully they include laptime based scoreboards for each seperate car class. The cheaters would just pull out a TVR Speed 12 and they win. I hate the Kudos system because it is supposed to reward you for style, not swerving back and fourth on the straights trying to keep your Kudos combo alive.

It works, all the number ones do it... But it looks rediculous.

you can in the Time Attack section. its all about speed there, no kudos. thres the circuit challenge where you pick a track and you can choose whatever car you want. OR you can pick whatever car you want, and theres a track assigned to each car. I like to do the car challenges. I havent checked my scores in a while, but a lot of my times were in the top 10. i need to work on em some more to make sure i stay up there

Personally, I find the kudos system brilliant. you don't have to rely on swerving or handbrake lunacy, just race really well and the "nice line" points keeps it going. I've got 3 1st place finishes in total and most of my times (in any mode except circuit challenge, which I havent touched yet) are usually in the top 20. I really don't think I'll be able to unlock the tvr speed 12 anytime soon, as getting all platinum is a rather.....steep hill to climb. Is there any other way?

i actually friggin got my first damn top 10 placement in the kudos world challenge last night. its was for the first overtake challenge in the extreme class. got me a third place finish :D that really surprised me cuz i didnt really even try that hard for that one, the next highest i got was a 14th place finish on the last speed challenge for the super car class w/ that stretch of nurburg. i could make a top 10 place on that if i really wanted to (i was only about a 100 points off of being 9th) but thats good enough for me. Most of my times end up in the 100's or around there, when you consider theres over 15,000 people playing (for single player) i'll take those placings. on live theres well over 40,000 people, so my 200 rank doesnt seem so bad either. in a night i can usually work it down to like 150, but as soon as you friggin stop playing you just start to rise again

I actually had the 10th spot in one of the races in the kudos championship, but i can't remember which one right off the top of my head. I'm sure i'm way down the list by now. But it was nice to see my name up there on the scoreboard even if just for a second. :D

I think I'm well over 35 top ten finishes. but I always see the same guy up there in first or 2nd: riko ninja. must be a killer to race against.

could you send me a link or an explanation please? that sounds sweet. and this action replay thing; am I right in assuming it's a cheat disc like the gameshark? I hate cheating, but I also dont want to wait till the next generation of consoles just to get the speed 12. maybe as a downloadable car then?

You never know. Racing against the clock and the AI, is totally different than racing with other humans. I'm sure he can hold his own, but I wouldn't bet that he's unbeatable. *Just don't let him get a lead, lol *

As far as changing your paint scheme goes...

1. Go online and get into a group of people to race with.
2. Select the car that you actually want to use.
3. Now, select the car with the paint scheme you want to use for the first car you selected.
4. Now exit out of the group you're in and go all the way out to the single player game menu.
5. Go into Time Challenge.
6. Within time challenge, go into car challenge.
7. Once in car challenge you'll notice that it has the group that you had selected last online already. Go to the group that you plan on racing with online and ONLY select that group. (Do not select the actual car.) Once the scoreboard has loaded for that class, back out to the main menu.
8. Jump back online and select your car and you should be ready to go.

Couple of notes with this.
1. You obviously have to be playing with a group or hosting matches that don't have a defined class they are racing with. It must be open so that you can jump back and forth through the car classes.
2. Any cars with stripes in their paint schemes can only swap paint schemes with other cars that have stripe paint schemes. I.E. - the AC and the Viper.

And just a personal note: I normally create a group, set the number of players to 2 (with one saved for friend invite). I do all the above mentioned steps and get my car ready to go in that group i created then when i hop back on i jump into a group to race with. This way you don't hold up races while you jump back and forth to accomplish this. Just a sidenote.

Finally managed to get a couple of platinums...one in a speed camera test using a Tamora....the other a hot lap in a Ferrari 575...don't think i'll ever manage one in a cones challange though

Yeah, i'm having a hell of a time getting a gold on a few of the cone challenges much less plat. I feel ya.

Im working on gold for the first kudos challenge in the Ultimate series right now, you need 10,500 kudos for it  I can do it, i just need to keep everything linked. its a florence track so everythings pretty close together, you dont need to go fast, you just need to make sure you dont graze any cones. Usually im about 3 or 400 off. and thats w/ blowing a couple combos. if i can keep one going for awhile w/out blowing it i should be able to do it. Platinum....forget about it...i dont remember what it was but i think its over like 20,000

19,000 I think  had a go at that one my self last night (not for gold)......best is around 6,500K's so far....just got to work out a couple of corners and I may be able to get round the whole track once keeping the combo going ;)

not to be a jackass or anything, but I beat that one (platinum) on the first try. Use the Enzo if you dont have the GT1 or the Mercedes CLK. Cone challenges usually require a lot of patience (and if nobody is around, a lot of screaming and cursing), but you get the rythm after a while. One challenge that has me close to punching holes in my walls is in arcade mode with a jag xj220 in the rain. 18500 points.
