No problem with Ambrose. He's a great guy and as far as I remember, NEVER once rubbed anyone the wrong way.

No different than those other road course guys that come in and race, although they've been sticking more to the Nationwide series lately than Cup. I bet we'll see a few of them next weekend.

I'm thinking its because Nationwide tends to be far more accomidating for the Road Courses then Cup and their repetitive "Because the chase" and "fans don't like it" excuses.

Not sure about that, Ambrose has been a little off at Sonoma in the past few years and it took him ages to win at Montreal. I don’t think NASCAR’s road races are as point and squirt as other series; car set-up seems to be very marginal and the talent level has generally increased. Throw in dicey restarts, GWC finishes, fuel mileage etc, more drivers have a great chance than before IMO.

I do feel sorry for Kyle Busch, as he drove superbly on Saturday and Sunday.

Of course not. They hate having any foreigners in NASCAR to begin with. Some fans are openly xenophobic, while others are more subtle, but most seem to hate non-Americans. They don't like foreign car makers in the sport, either. Can't say how many times I read tantamount hating Toyota being in the series just because they're foreign.

NASCAR fans like to boast that these guys are the greatest drivers in the world, but yet fans don't want them racing against anyone from the other 95.5% of the world.

Quick, point me to fans in this thread or anywhere who hated seeing an Australian win....riiiiight.

Hello! Such nationalistic pride extends far beyond NASCAR. Do you honestly think 100% of Japanese Super GT fans would embrace 1/4 of the grid becoming Chevrolet or Ford? Or will 100% of the German DTM fans celebrate in the streets with 1/4 of the field suddenly becoming Honda or Nissan?

Yes, I remember seeing the protests against Kimi Raikkonen and others who wanted to try NASCAR. Oh wait, I didn't.

That shows how closed-minded these "race fans" really are. 👎 Even though Toyota is based in Japan, more of their cars are assembled by American workers in American plants than the so called "American" automakers, who have most of their plants in Canada and Mexico.

And look at it this way #24 fans. That 21st place finish was probably a blessing in disguise. If Nascar throws a caution(which they should have), the 18 wins that going away and Jeff would be in a must-win situation from here out. So instead of Jeff being a win down, he's only points 10 POINTS down and still in contention. I know Jeff is upset, but he shouldn't be too much...it was kind of a break. Now Kyle...he should be the one really pissed. Hopefully Jeff will prevail at Michigan.
 
Happy to see Ambrose get a win. He always seems like such a great guy, happy about doing the sport he loves. Top blokes like him deserve a win.

Just for fun, I'd like to see Jeff Gordon(Or any other has-been) go run in V8 Supercars next year.

Why not have more road races, but not have them count for Championship points? Or have a "Road Racer" championship separate, like the North American Endurance Championship is under the Grand-Am.
 
It's hard to look on the bright-side as a JG24 fan but I know what ya mean.

It's going to come down to Busch and Gordon. Newman isn't going to be good enough to hold on to that wild card in the next 4 races, he's always gonna be that top-15 kinda guy. No chase for the Rocket Man this year.

I really didn't see him being in it, he pretty much is mid pack driver anyway, just had few good runs off the bat. He got really lucky with the win.

No kidding he got lucky. Clint Bowyer took out the two best drivers in that race.
 
Let me break the Wild Card chase down.

Newman: Ryan Newman will not hold the 2nd Wild Card spot. Despite running strong this season, his strong finishes were due to luck, and I do not see "Rocket Man" finishing very high up in the next 4 races.

Ky. Busch: Rowdy will make the chase. Though a lot of people are thinking that Gordon will appear in the chase, Wild Thing dominates the next 4 tracks, notably Bristol and Richmond, left until the chase and may be able to pick up another win.

Gordon: He's out. I believe that Gordon can put on a solid run before the chase cutoff, but he won't be able to pick up another win. Kyle Busch is too much competition for Big Daddy to deal with. Despite the fact that he can pick up one more win before the chase, Gordon does not look competitive enough to keep up with Busch.

I would talk about Edwards, but he doesn't have a win yet. And keep an eye on Marcos Ambrose, as he can be a potential darkhorse to make the chase.

Ryan Newman: Ryan Newman is out unless he gets another win. Just not good enough this year.

Kyle Busch: Kyle won't make it. Too inconsistent, and he seems to have picked up a string of bad luck. The Gibbs cars, except for a few races seem to lack speed this year. Durability has been another issue.

Jeff Gordon: He will join his Hendrick teammate in the Chase.

Marcos Ambrose: To far back to challenge. Unless he can pull off another win, which is unlikely. Needs a miracle.

Carl Edwards: Needs a win obviously. Without it he won't be in.
 
I think its a safe bet that Carl simply won't win or get in the chase. Hardly worth mentioning him anymore since he hasn't had any steller finishes good enough to get him even close.

Most on here were writing Gordon off before he won.

Carl is 12th in points now, higher than Gordon, Busch or Newman. All he needs is a win. (Since NASCAR doesn't care about consistency anymore)

Heck, it is still possible he could crack the top 10 even without a win and get in.

Thing is, Kyle is the best at Bristol and Richmond. Nobody can match him on those tracks (except for Keselowski at Bristol, and Hamlin at Richmond). He can easily rebound during the Bristol night race or the last race before the chase.

I don't feel that Gordon has the momentum. You have to think that while he may be consistent on the next few tracks, most of the wins he got there came from the 90's and early 2000's. Nowadays, with different rules, strategies, and a very different car (as compared to those from the 90's/early 2000's), Gordon can't keep up as much as he could before.

Still, don't count him out. Jeff can make a run and make the chase, but I doubt it.

Ryan Newman: Needs another win.

Kyle Busch: Needs another win.

Jeff Gordon: He's in.

Marcos Ambrose: Needs another win.

Carl Edwards: Needs a win.
 
I'm not counting either of them out. Unless either of them gets a win, it's going to take top fives and top tens to get into the chase (which I still think NASCAR should do away with as the chase isn't needed with the new points system).
