To my absolute surprise... NASCAR Nationwide debuts at Road America... TODAY (at the bottom of the hour as of this post)! Nationwide at Road America and Cup at Sears Point (Infineon). You're going to love this weekend if you love NASCAR and road racing.

Best of luck to all the NASCAR racers road racing this weekend!

I'm surprised you are just now aware of it as it had been announced earlier this year. Nontheless, its very cool. And yes, this is an awesome weekend for me as a fan of both disciplines.

The race just ended, and basically went something like this: The start was fairly civilized, the end was a total madhouse. It was getting to the point where 2 or more cars would spin out per lap. There were some good bits of racing though. Hope to see it return next year.

It was great to watch the drivers race as they struggled to get that heavy thing to turn and stop and then blast off on the straights. Tried some laps in iracing and it definitely is a handful to try and get it woed down and then try not spin it coming out of the turns, all while I'm still learning the track. 👍

RACECAR, I knew the Road America race was coming up, I just didn't realize it was this weekend. I've been watching most of the highlights of the Road America race. The cars seem to handle Road America pretty well. Each lap is a marathon around Road America. The only thing I'd wonder is if this race ended up being a wet or rainy race.

Still, it was great to see this deal. Something different for NASCAR.

If you are able to watch Speed channel on Thursday, they'll show it again at 11:00 AM. One positive indication I can already point out was that it pulled huge crowds in. Looks like this proved to be the best replacement for Milwaukee and could be a perminent replacement. I'm just hoping this eventually catches the eye of the Competition directors for Cup.

One cool thing about the Road America event- David Hobbs was the announcer for the invocation and stuff. That voice was VERY familiar. I actually saw most of the coverage after Midnight (Central Time) on ESPN2. ESPNEWS kind of spoiled it for me as I saw one guy backflip off of his car (I think we all know who that indicates).

Later today is the NASCAR Cup race at Infineon. Best of luck to all who will run in Sonoma, and mad respect to every driver who did Road America AND Infineon.

So why did Ambrose drop back? We had the TV turned down since family was over.

I have to admit, I usually don't dislike drivers, but I'm tired of Johnson. I really don't want to watch NSCAR anymore just becauseof him. He single handedly ruined NASCAR for me. And whats up with Keselowski? He can't race at all, he seems to take someone out all the time. I know my views are different then others, but I mean come on, he took out three or four people in this one race.

Ambrose messed up big time... turn off the motor to safe fuel.. then stalled then got passed under yellow... since it happened like that... he cannot regain position... Yeah I'm... OUCH!!!! MATT KENSETH... yikes... :grumpy:

Ambrose flicked the engine off going through turn 1 to save fuel and couldn't get it restarted. By the time he did he was 7th.

Without wishing to badmouth the sport, are there any driving standards rules in NASCAR? I only saw the second half of the race and in that time there was at least a dozen cars spun out by others, 4 by Jeff Gordon. I ask partly because I really wanted to see Ekstrom get a top 10 on his debut, and was glad to see Keselowski facing the wrong way later on because of that. Happy for Jan Magnussen with 12th.

Ah, ok. That's really lame.

No not really, to answer your question. As long as it's not obvious I'm pretty sure it's all good. I love NASCAR, but a lot of those drivers aren't the best road course drivers so they always spin out. Plus they have a new rule where it's all in the driver's hands to settle and problems so they let them go. I agree with the Ekstrom and Keselowski thing. This whole year I've said Brad can't drive and now my parent understand.

Yeah, I'm a Jeff Gordon fan, but not proud of some of his moves today.

Edit: and some of these drivers, as stated, are not really that good at road course racing. All the more argument to add more right turns to the schedule.

Atleast Gordon admitted he messed up with Martin, that's good on his part.

Ambrose has to be one of the best people for interviews, I mean he always is happy and has a big smile. Most drivers just get out of the car and start to complain and blame people. I don't know how anyone couldn't Like Ambrose, he'll get a win sooner or later 👍.

I think they need a lot more road courses (I spelled that wrong, ooops.), but I think it would bring in some more viewers and make it so there are different winners. Well hopefully though, unlike today :grumpy:.

Hopefully the good fan turn-out at Road America yesterday for the Nationwide series will get that track on the Cup schedule. I say take out all the tracks that have a second race on the schedule and replace them with road courses. :)

I wish they would at least add Road America and Montreal to the cup schedule.

I had no idea they were racing at Road America, I would've of watched it to add to the veiwership, if it would help. I think Mid-Ohio would be a great place for them to race. It may be a little too small for all the fans, but the track is nice. Plus Grand Am races there and they're all in the same family.

Ambrose was a great interview.. he went into the truck, calmed down, and said what he needed to say. (I though, would not of.) Also, big 👍 Mattias Ekstrom, had a great run despite getting taken out by Brad who needs to settle down! As for Jeff Gordon, 4 to 5 guys got taken out by him... hope he likes the payback because he if doesn't you caused what you caused.

On to the driving standards, I don't know if they need them but I think they need to do something because some of this is getting out of hand. And not just Montreal and Road America... The Brickyard 400 can be very easily turned into a road race. :sly:

They'll reair the race on Speed at 11:00 AM (according to my schedule anyway) on thursday so you've got another chance to watch it.

Oh and I agree with everyone that said tha they should add RA to the cup schedule, it's a great track that produces some really nice racing. 👍

I was definitely impressed by the Road America Race, it wasn't like Montreal last year which seemed to be a Steve Wallace 1st turn crashfest on every restart, there was some good racing. On the subject of Nascar and road courses, hell ya, give me more, my tracks would be Road America, Montreal, Mexico City, make the second Daytona Race a road course, and once the track in Austin is finished, bring the cars over here, at least all of those.

While there is Road America, I don't think it will ever happen that NASCAR will race there more often. It was a replacement for the Milwaukee Mile. Could NASCAR probably work something around to where they do the Milwaukee Mile and Road America? Not likely.

One of the most boring tracks in NASCAR is coming up- the New Hampshire International Speedway. If I would replace Loudon with another track... how do you like Miller Motorsports Park? That's one thing I've noticed about NASCAR- no NASCAR road racing in the American Southeast. Maybe the last time I've heard of NASCAR road racing in the American Southeast was probably at Road Atlanta many moons ago. If I had to choose, I'd love to see NASCAR at Sebring if you're talking good road course tracks. The very long backstretch at Sebring's full course would be like blasting down the backstretch at Talladega.

Anyhow... bring on Loudon next week and congratulations to the winners at Road Atlanta and Infineon/Sears Point!

I think a return to the Milwaukee Mile depends on the tracks situation next year.

Although I'm sure the rather good turnout Saturday will make the decision even tougher.

Why not the road course at NHIS? I believe Trans-Am raced on that track back in the day.

When people are talking about tracks to add to the NASCAR schedule, one track always instantly comes to mind for me: Laguna Seca. In my opinion, if there is any track that should be added to the schedule, this is it. I think it would produce fantastic racing. And, imagine 43 cars flying into the corkscrew at 160 mph.

I doubt they would do the corkscrew at 160mph.

But I do agree, however Laguna is not really set up for a large amount of fans, so it would probably need some work before hand.

Edit: isn't there a YouTube video that shows Robby Gordon or someone doing laps around Laguna in a cup car?

It was AJ Allmendinger back when he was with Red Bull.

It does host an ALMS race so it could probably handle a NASCAR crowd.
