I would argue with you all that Richard Petty is the greatest of all time

Agreed.

I didn't say Jimmy is the greatest of all time, though, just that Kyle B. is not great and currently Jimmy is.

Some interesting rumblings I'm hearing that interestly I haven't seen on NASCAR.com Last I checked:

-Chevy and Ford are considering leaving if NASCAR does not make a change to the COT

-Dupont is leaving Jeff Gordon after this year with Wal-Mart supposedly being pursued as the replacement

They have been saying that since the COT came out. It's currently on "I'll believe it when I see it" status.

Besides, NASCAR has already announced plans for changes.

Really? Sure is the first time I've heard about it, maybe their complaints are abit louder this time.

Man, that was a awesome qualifying session. Villenueve and Ambrose were trading fast lap after fast lap with Marcos edging it out. NASCAR fans have no idea what they missing without having a qualifying format like this for the Cup Road Course races.

Does anyone know how to view the full NASCAR.com site on my phone? The mobile site blows hard.

The only thing that irked me was them throwing the checkered flag on that final group with 1:40 left on the clock. It was plenty of time for each driver to get one more lap in. I really wanted to see if Villeneuve could improve that lap time since he completely trashed his lap in the hairpin and still managed to be .1 faster on that lap.

Looks like they still have some learning to do on using that qualifying system, which they should use in the Cup Series.

The truck series is using an interesting qualifying system as well. 2-3 trucks on track at the same time

*sigh* what does he have to do to win? Everytime, something goes wrong.

Wow, Sway bar broke on the 60. Crazy stuff.

Edwards out now too!

Edit: d'oh. Stewpid bots always beating me.

Good grief, what next? I swear I think I've seen everything.

Edit: I stand corrected

LMAO, I think the officials just made a makeshift drive-thru

One of the best finishes I've seen all year! When is Nascar going to get the picture? WE NEED MORE ROAD RACING!

Woo! That was awesome. I wished for a close finish and I got it. Great job for Boris.

Exactly this. Those stands are packed full with fans and the Nationwide series never sells out tracks. Montreal has had the better races the last four years and it would benefit the Cup series to run there.

What an insane race! Really, how often do only ten cars finish on the lead lap (and only eight remotely in the vicinity of the lead even after a late caution) on a track as long as this one? It's about time for Said; I expected him to go careening off-course on a restart like he always seems to do in the Cup road course races.

Personally I'd say NASCAR needs more road racing when F1 needs more ovals

I would like NASCAR to perhaps swap out one of the current road courses with Montreal because Montreal has more/better passing zones then Watkins Glen or Sonoma and its in a international market

And I'm happy to see Said win, of the drivers in the top 4 there at the end I only didn't want Gordon to win

I didn't want Robby to win either. Too many cheap moves on his part over the years in these races. I half expected him to spin Boris on the restart after the one where he force Mad Max off the but in the end he ran out of fuel. Any of the remaining three could have won and it would have been a great win.

I would really have to disagree. The Lack of Road Racing is the single biggest reason we see crap loads of cautions in a race because people simply can't drive. Sure, they "test" and get practice at various tracks but testing doesn't not do much, especially since its at two completely different tracks. I also disagree that Watkins Glen doesn't have enough passing zones as their are plenty. Is just again, the lack of road racing that makes Stock car racing there usually a wreck fest. I personally think they should remove any Oval that isn't bringing the crowds and replace it with Montreal and Road America. As seen with the Nationwide races, both sold out and had record number crowds that far exceeded the attendance on the ovals. I also think Both the Glen and Sonoma should have races featuring the full course configurations instead of these somewhat lack luster Short courses.

Great race! Come on NASCAR, Cup series needs this track on their schedule!

I totally agree about Montreal being an awesome race. 👍 Too bad the Cup series is mostly a bunch of "corporate ass-kissing million dollar babies" who would burn down Nascar headquarters at the slightest hint of having to turn right one extra time a year. :grumpy:

If only you knew how absolutely Bad NASCAR truly is. Person I know works close to the scenes and some of the things he revealed to me is just downright messed up. Hell, I'm baffled at how it still survives.

Im against more road races because NASCAR is an oval racing series. It's what all the local short trackers look up to. What are they going to do if NASCAR gets more and more road races and all their oval skills learned from the lower levels dont mean as much anymore? Or they get done running an oval race Friday night on the 1/4 mile and on Sunday the Cup drivers are racing at Road America?

Before I go further I should say that to me every racing series should be an equal mix of short ovals, medium ovals, long ovals, street courses and permanent road courses. Sort of what CART had in the 90s. However, like I said earlier, when F1 starts adding ovals then NASCAR should add more roadcourses. F1 is so far stuck up their butts every team refused to even run a few parade laps around the oval during the USGP. "That's not what we're here for." NASCAR is a oval racing series. I dont want to see more road courses. F1 is a road racing series. Im sure their fans dont want to see ovals. Does NASCAR provide fabulous road racing? Yes. Would F1 provide fabulous oval racing? I think so, but do they race them? No.

Also, lack of experience on road races is not totally responsible for the wreck fests. These cars weigh so much, have so much power and so little brake with skinny tires. Everyone today missed a corner and had damage. With so many passing opportunities and hard braking zones because of the cars they were bound to get tore up. It would be reduced if the oval track drivers had more experience, but with the nature of the cars it wouldnt disappear

Im not sure if replacing poor attendance ovals with road courses is the way to go. I think poor attendance on some ovals is due to either hte oval being another cookie cutout or some fans getting sick of the Busch whackers. At the Cup level casual fans dont like Little E not being competitive. Gordon isn't winning. Only hated drivers like Johnson Ky Busch are winning. But this discussion is for another day.

CART was my favorite racing series of all time because they had the perfect mix of race tracks.

Im looking at the '94 season now...

6 street/airport courses
4 short oval (1 mile or shorter)
4 permanent road course
2 long oval (2 miles or longer)

Perfect 50/50 mix of ovals and street courses. That's what made CART so unique. NASCAR is unique because its the only real major racing series in the WORLD that is ovals only. I think there is great racing on ovals so I dont see any reason NASCAR needs to stop dropping oval dates for road courses. If go to unique ovals in Europe
