Just seeing how fellow GT4'ers like to modify their ride.

Do you keep a NA car NA or do you Turbo it?

Personally, I only add additional turbo's to cars that come stock turbo. It helps me appreciate Turbo cars more. I also like the sound of an NA beast. I usually avoid Superchargers as well and just stick to NA Tunes.

That's pretty much what I do, though I put a blower on my Ram truck (it's a somewhat common project in the truck world). Unfortunately, GT4 being a Japanese game, it is pretty turbo-centric and so the turbo kits are usually your best bang for your buck.

I do tend to add turbochargers to FWD cars if I upgrade the power, because the turbo lag can help with power delivery on an FF layout. One exception would be my Integra TR, which is such a sweet little engine that it begs to stay naturally aspirated. I will also say that I rarely if ever go above Stage II on either NA or turbocharged cars.

Im right there with you on that one. I find that anything above stage 2 is expensive and usually puts too much power to the wheels. However, the stage 5 turbo set-ups for cars that can be modified by a Tuner along with an ORG suspension setup tends to make the car handle quite well.

I guess it is just how you like playing the game. Turbo does give you more power for your money but NA gives more power through the rev range IMO. I really wish that when you were installing certain power modifications that there was a display of torque gained by each of the installations.

I like to keep the cars as they are (stock)

But I preffer the NA upgrade,sound..... no higher than stage I

I too perfer N/A. However, a Supercharger gives you a lot of power throughout the range too. I personally believe that a supercharger is better than the turbo.

Question: WHAT IS IMO!!??

Question: WHAT IS IMO!!??

I think it means In My Opinion, could be wrong.

As for me, it's down to whatever I can work with a given car, I like both and I want to look into the option of a supercharger too. To be short, just whatever I can work with. Everything has their strenghs and faults, although to be honest, I'm more of an N/A guy than turbo (but I also have an obcession with the Imrpeza GC8, 3000GT VR-4 Turbo, and Lan evo IV to name a few), and I'll prob try a supercharger on a Camaro Z28 just to see how that goes and well, it's down to what you want really.

I'm a N/A guy but I'll have little trouble with having to use a turbo less it's laggy to no end (coughoptioncoughzcough...sorry...), otherwise, whatever can work. But I probably will be looking into a supercharger since to a loose extent that's like N/A less I miss-read something on superchargers.

Till Later.

Of course! Oh My God, everything is soooo much clearer now.

Thanks.

P.S. YES, for the record, I do feel stupid.

i put NA for shorter tracks(autumn mini) and Turbo for longer tracks(nurburgring). On the shorter tracks the Turbo lag is noticable and NA doesn't power a car good for a long track.

I rarely upgrade the engine and if I do I always will go NA. Most of the time you are underpowerd until the turbo spolls up and then you roast the tires. With NA you can get a solid bost in power through most the R.P.M.s. I hate stage fours, to long to spoll up and they destroy tires and handaling.

Yeah ive noticed that as well. Right now I have a game where I am keeping the natural aspiration of each car and buying a "Sport" setup and a "semi-racing" setup. I find that having a sport setup on smaller tracks gives almost as good times as the semi-racing would on the same track. Also this allows me to change the amount of a-spec points for each race.

depends on the gearing of the car...for the most part I will take the largest turbo over the S3 NA motor build because it will always make more power...turbo lag is almost non existant over 4000rpms where you'll be spending most of your time as it is.

I usually turbo over NA, but a quick question.

What is turbo lag? Is it the area in the RPM's where the kick-in from the turbo is nearly non-existant?

the turbo lag is the time from the moment you floor the accelerator to when the boost starts .
does anybody know if the bang bang that appears in all cars (not only turbos as it should be) really work or is it only the visual image?

lag is the delay time from opening the trottle until the compressor generates good boost to the combustion chamber. It is NOT when the turbo cannot generate boost due to lack of engine revs - thats a badly sized turbocharger.

Turbo lag is usually a result of lots/oversize plumbing - ie. long pipes from turbo to plenium chamber, oversize/inefficient intercooler, crap exhaust manifold

as for turbo vs NA, both have pros/cons
i find that if youre going for hilift cams or stage 4 turbo kit - you need to have custom gearbox and light flywheel - means its easier to keep the revs up in the powerband
FF cars i believe are more suited to NA tunes - turbos are too torquey

"Bang bang"?!

bang bang are the explotions in the exhaust created by the computer of some turbo cars to keep the turbine spinning in order to reduce lag

Is that called an turbo anti-lag system or a 'misfiring' system (as Initial D calls it)?

The turbo is like a big fan that the exaust has to turn, this takes time to spool up and get air flowing through pipes, intercooler (if it has one), ect and this time is your lag. This is just in laymans terms.

Actually there was a member tested NA, Turbo and Supercharge upgrade, the result was Supercharge is the best solution. (of course the car has to have Supercharge upgrade option to begin with)

Since I like to race Hondas a lot, I prefer NA. I can go into a turn and out real quick with no turbo spooling up or waiting for my tires to catch traction, hence FF mostly. Although, if I was to be using my S2000, it's turbo'd. :)

If a Supercharger is available, I'll always go for that if I'm looking for that kind of power. It gets almost as much power as a Stage 4 for only about 15,000cr., and levels out the powerband to boot (as opposed to spiking it at the top).

turbo or natural. depends on the circumstances. turbo for higher top speeds and top end and nautral for cornering and smaller tracks. i personally always go for the turbo, but i just like more top end, if only there was a louder blow off valve then i would be in heaven

Well, if I can I go S/C, if not I'll go with Stage 1/2/5 turbos or N/A depending on what's avaliable. Superchargers are great, they give a lot of power and it's at low to medium revs so you don't get turbo lag which I like for drifting. Nothing worse than drifting a turbo then having the boost suddenly kick in when you're already sideways.

I always use stage 2 NA tuning. No turbo lag. After that i'd use a super charger, then stage 3 NA, then I'd start on the turbo

The guy also took three upgrades that shower very close similar HP.

Thanks to all about the information about turbo-lag, I guess if people in Switzerland were more into upgrading their car, maybe even getting a car for some people instead of taking the train, I would be so ignorant about turbo-lag. Hehe.

I usually go for the highest HP...

Ed

IRL=Turbo! In game=it depends on the car. Usually I try to keep NA as NA.

First is supercharger,

Second is turbo,

NA is last.

This is just a personal preference based on experience I've had with tuned road cars... I usually find the off-cam period of a highly tuned NA motor to be more intrusive than turbo lag, but I also dislike the mushy and inconsistent throttle response that results from a turbo, which would make a supercharger my first choice if available. In GT4 I don't notice much difference when driving.

definantly supercharger, it flattens the torque and power curve, meaning you dont have to change gears as often as well.. (for all you lazy people out there).. Too bad NA tuning is so expensive, otherwise that would be my second choice.
