Okay, you did a revival, but no one addressed the salient point of how you get the damn thing to roll in the first place.
1. Turn off radio. (You don't need any distractions)
2. Listen to the motor.
3. Let out clutch, SLOWLY. When the engine starts to strain give it a LITTLE gas, and continue to let the clutch out.
4. At this point you have either stalled the car, burned rubber, or are rolling along smoothly.
5. Again listen to the motor. When it starts to strain (about 3000-4000 RPM in the lower gears (1-3), Foot off gas, Clutch in (at the same time). Pull lever back into 2nd and let out clutch and add gas.
6. Repeat step 5 until you reach the posted speed limit. Shift up once more so the engine isn't working too hard. Stop at next Stop sign or red traffic light.
7. When stopping remember to push clutch in when braking. Or car will stop VERY dramatically, requiring you to restart engine.

Then, you must start practicing holding the car on a hill, w/o using the brake. When you have accomplished this, Grasshopper, you may attempt to walk the rice-paper. If you succed leaving no mark upon the paper you will be a Shao-lin Monk.:D

....That can drive a stick-shift.

Unless you drive a s-10 with no tach. Pisses me off when automatic cars have tachs, and standard don't.

and the "shift light" GRRRRR

You do still have ears.
If you can't hear the motor refer to Step #1. AND roll Down driver side window.
Your ears are a lot smarter than your eyes. You'll never come anywhere near red-line if you trust your ears. Plus, by the time a Ford tach tells you you're at redline you'll be 1,500 past it.
Haven't driven too many Chevs with tachs and stick shifts

For a minute there i was about to say 'Please stick to the topic' but it looks like it's getting back on track now.

I have always used a stick shift, and i find that it is a lot faster than automatic cars.

I have only ever driven two auto cars, which are a 1995 Ford Telstar, and 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS-4 (R32).
But seen as they are both the fastest cars i've driven, i can't really make a comparison at the moment.

I'm keeping my eyes out for a good manual Nissan Skyline GT-R though.

Realease the gas, push in the clutch, change to the desired gear, and then let the clutch come up gently while at the same time pushing the gas pedal down just as gently.
And remember when you change to a higher gear, change them one by one:D
Not from second gear to fourth gear or something like that, the car doesn't like that:D
When you change to a lower gear, you can go from fifth to third or something like that.

you use a clutch?

Hey Mustang-man, do you have to still stick to the topic even if the thread is over a year old?

:thatsodd:

Yes i do. It doesn't matter how old it is.

If you's want to talk about things other than the intended topic, then there is a topic specially made for it. Whats wrong with doing it in there?

Wow they make cars without a stick shift?
What do they use instead?

In my car

You push the Clutch all the way down like your going to ram your foot into the engine, then you shove the gearstick into the 1st gear really hard , now you put your foot on the gas until you are deafened by a 1100cc engine and sloooooooowly realease the clutch.

I need a new car :)

oops, I hate this stupid proxy crap, sometimes the connection just goes dead and im left clicking and swearing.

I told you, John.

Remember, he was considering going to BMW Motorsports driving school in Spartanburg. You've got to know how to drive a stick.

it is very simple really all you must do is time releasing the clutch and easing on to the gas right so the engine does not fall or chug along on its face.

i have a manual car and can already drive a manual even though i dont have a drivers license.

No im not... Id rather not be bored while im in an awesome machine by just sitting there letting an auto do all the shifting for me. I like to be active :)

I've always had manuals. When I got my license (all 14 years ago!!! Eep!) the old man had an automatic Falcon, but I got my own car a couple of months after that which was a manual, and have had manual transmissions ever since. I detest autos - the closest I think I'll come is one of those sequential manuals, such as the Selespeed in the Alfa Romeos (note - NOT the sequential autos), or the clutchless manual in the A-Class. I always find when I drive an auto I'm mentally trying to out-guess the transmission.

ive driven a VS GTS commodore with a 4 speed auto. it had the power no doubt but once the wheels lost traction, the box didnt know what to do. really dissapointing. needless to say i dont have that proplem with my 5 speed manual ;)

Some of you guys have it too easy. I learned how to DRIVE in a manual. That is, I had never been behind a wheel before when I was learning to drive a manual transmission. Doing everything at once can be nearly overwhelming.

I've been teaching my friends (mostly the females (: (: ) how to drive my car lately. They've all been driving automatics for several years now, so all they're learning is the stick and cluch. Lucky for them I have one of the most forgiving cars around - `93 Accord.

Diddo! That and I feel that I have lowered myself in humanity by allowing a machine to do work for me. (:

I couldn't wait until 2002's to come out to get a manual, I had new car fever bad.

But with the E-Shift, I can still shift whenever I want to. But it sure don't beat being able to bang gears with a stick and a clutch. You just loose some of that 'oneness' with the car without a true manual transmission.
