Yeah I might sound n00bish, but it really doesn't make any sense that the beginning champ. is all rally cars :odd:. Even with my modded 300ZX w/ over 900 HP i'm still having trouble placing first on those races, (minus Super Speedway, of course :) ) Those damn rally cars get the jump on me way too quick. Any help would be greatly appreciated

just go back to it later that's what i did and once i got better i smakced those rally cars like little *****s. And if still no result just use a better car

It took me forever, but I did it in my Lancer Evo V. I qualified in about 3 every time and that gave me the edge I needed to take the race. You can also try a Esprit with a lower turbo kit to keep some compition.

Hey, Skinomaniac, welcome to GTP! I hope you find a lot of help here and give some too.

My suggestion is to actually reduce the hp on your 300zx, and practice practice practice. "Point and squirt" driving gets you only so far, especially on some of the tighter tracks. I beat most of the later half of Beginner mode and the Seattle enduro in a 370 hp Evo. I really worked on my braking and turning-in, till I found I could carry a fair amount of speed through the turns, rather than having to make it all back up with acceleration. Brake early; early enough that you are accelerating as you get the car settled in to the apex of the turn.

Hope this helps! Ask a lot of questions, because people here have really helped me as well.

Wow! 900hp..
OK, first things first..dump all the high HP mods. too much HP reinforces the drive fast turn later scenario. The absoulte key to these races are staying off the walls. I'm guessing that since you've already loaded the HP up, you've also set added the other suspension mods?

Turn ASM to 3, and TCS to 1. If you're running in the 400hp range you should be in better control. What type of tires are you running? Try T5 tires. I'm guessing that on a straight stretch, you blast by the AI like nothing, right? So they are beating you in the corners. You need to learn how to lighten up on the throttle when you turn. This is a mantra recited by many people here "Slow in. Fast out."

It works.

What may also be the problem, is that you are getting too nervous, and miscalculating. Relax a bit, and breathe. I found that I tense up and have to remind myself to breathe, when the race is really tight. Turn in sooner than you think, and at a speed slower than you think, Get back on teh gas smoothly. No punching it out of the corners.

Hopefully this will help out a bit. Post up the settings you are using on teh car, and we'll give you some pointers.

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

If he's packing 900hp, the car isn't the issue. It's controlling that power that is the problem.

You can beat the game just by getting a bigger gun, sure. But you'll learn how to play it if you concentrate and practice at it, and use appropriate cars.

neon duke, thanks for the welcome :)

and thanks for all the advice guys, I decided to get money for customizable mods so that I can have more control over the car. I'll let you know how the race turns out!

This is probably the most helpful piece of information. I always try and crush the dualshock 2 when the races get tight, and I never notice till after the race is over.

here are my current settings:

Spring Rate 9/10
Ride Height 90/90
Shock Bound 5/5
Shock Rebound 7/7
Camber Angle 3.5/1.0
Toe Angle -1.0/1.0
Stabilizers 3/4
Brake Balance 15/20
ASM 3
TCS 1

thanks to help that i found on this forum i'm running at around 500 HP and in more control than ever. Thanks :)

well done, and welcome to my forum :)

Doesn't it give you the warm and fuzzies to teach a person that control rather than HP is the way to go?
It's even better when you find sum1 who will actually listen.

how much better are your times now?

times have improved big time. i can take the corners perfectly smoothly and i'm having no problems dominating these rally cars. the feeling of victory is excellent. :)

btw, I did it in a rx7 rz, with semi-race suspension, race flywheel and hard tires. it was a good series.
I didnt come first in all of them but came ahead on points :)
