Need Help: GT5 freezes PS3 at various screens

Hey everyone, I need major help with this issue:

It started once when I tried to complete a 24 hour B-Spec race. My GT5 game 'glitched' and some of the background images disappeared. I was driving the Red Bull X2010 and it was driving on air. All you could see was the mountains and other cards, no land, no raceway. The controller becomes unresponsive, I cannot Quit Game or Turn Off System, I can only eject the disc.

If I do so, it takes hours for the PS3 to be able to see discs again on the main screen, the blue light comes on when a disc is inserted, but I cannot access any games or watch any movies for a few hours while leaving the PS3 in a cold room.

Now, this problem keeps occurring when races are finished, and I can only play 2-3 at a time. A race finished and the black screen with "Gran Turismo" in the corner shows up and nothing progresses. All I hear is cars racing in the background and the PS3 makes the same noise every 4 seconds and wont do anything.

Anyone experiencing this problem or know whats going on? Its happened on both an older 40GB PS3 and a brand new 160GB PS3. Any help would be great

Well, i was thinking it was your PS3 until i read this ^^^. It would be extremely co-incidental for it to happen to both of them, so i doubt that's your problem. Is your disc scratched or smudged? That can cause the freezing. If one of your mkates has the game aswell, try using his disc, if it doesn't play up then you need a new disc.

Still didn't work. Other friend's disc froze at the same point, some time after 3 races of Dream Car. I'm thinking its overheating, I can't hear the fan running at all. I'm sitting watching my game show a fully loaded Circuit De La Sarthe 2009 screen and it keeps cycling through the same cars and wont load to the race.

Anyone with more ideas please help. Can I buy a cooling pad or something? Whenever I keep the PS3 in the fridge for an hour the game/discs show up and I can start playing again but only for 30 minutes or so

I really feel sorry for you but I don't know what you can do. Can you hear the PS3's fan? And how loud is it when you are playing GT5. And does it only happen when you are playing GT5 or does it happen for other games too?

It only happens when I play GT5... both a friend's disc and mine. I tried playing GT5 Prologue today and left the PS3 running for two hours and no glitching, no static screens, nothing. I picked up halfway through a race and finished as normal, got credits and went to the race menu.

The fan seems to be going on and off, not constant like it should be. That was my next idea and I was hoping someone would bring it up. Anyway I can replace the fan? Could it be the motherboard not running the fan properly?

If a game gets completely stuck then press and hold the power button until you hear one beep to do. A hard reboot.

Hard reboot doesnt work. Bought an intercooler for the PS3, still the game glitches. Any more ideas? Should I just replace the whole blu-ray drive?

back up your game profile then delete all of the GT5 data. I had this problem and a complete re-install of the game fixed the problem.

Also, make sure you back up your race replays and photos because these are not saved to your save game file.

The hard reboot never fixes the problem, it's just a better way to force shut down the PS3 then pulling the plug.
