When you get these pains, have you tried laying down on your side? Maybe it's trapped gas? Could also be bad digestion as others have mentioned
Maybe less spent on defence and more on health would help.

So we're pretty sure it's my gallbladder. I'm in the middle of probably my worst attack ever right now. Started before I left work and here it is over 3 hours later and it still hasn't gone away. So I'm going to tough it out through silverstone and then probably get it taken out when I get back.
Yay.![]()
It seems to me that there's a possibility that you have a mildish form of lactose intollerancy.
Just make sure you get it taken care of somehow.
Anyway, you're getting it sorted now but you need to be changing your diet permanently to cut out all fatty foods else you're going to keep getting pain. Unfortunately fatty foods and alcohol are your nemesis and will carry on... learn to love muesli, lettuce and low fat sandwiches![]()
On the other hand, I know people that practically had to cut out red meat completely and others that had zero change in diet. It's all a bit of an individual basis from what I can tell.
R1600TurboI've done some Google searching and don't really know what I should be looking for, so maybe you guys can help. First things first, I have no insurance and cannot afford to see a doctor at this time, so I'm hoping it's maybe an issue with my diet that I can change relatively easy.
Lately (or rather for a while) I have been getting sharp pains right below my right rib cage. These never occur during the day, rather they usually wake me up in the middle of the night. Usually when this happens I have to get out of bed and walk around, or just sit up and wait patiently for it to subside. If I try to lay back down, it hurts so much that I can't breathe.
That area is usually sensitive to touch, as it hurts if I push on it a little. Now, as I said if I get out of bed and do something for a bit, or sit up and read a book for an hour or two, it goes away enough that I can lay down and go back to sleep. Not really an issue on the weekends, but a major pain in the rear during the week when I have to get up and go to work.
I think I've linked this issue to eating greasy foods, as it will usually happens when I eat Pizza or something similarly greasy late at night. I've watched myself lately about eating those kinds of foods any later than about 8:00, but it sucks as I'm scared to even touch them anymore.
My last occurrence with this issue was last night. Had a turkey burger with cheese and tomato around 6:30, then had a few cookies with a glass of milk about an hour later. Then about 10:00 I had a glass of Sunny-D and went to bed around 1am. I woke up at 4:30am and was not able to get back to sleep until around 6am.
Sorry about the long post but...any ideas?
You should be a doctor. Be sure to get really, really good malpractice insurance first.Seriously, you eat to much and the place around your stomach hurts, what would it be? Not really rocket science dude

Hardly anything about internal medicine is ever easy, especially for unqualified keyboard warriors.
Well, I meant all these instances were post-surgery. Pre-surgery my wife would be in pain at random intervals. The food related pain now is because part of the digestive process is missing. This is the first time I have had an attack during the day. All my previous attacks would wake me up in the middle of the night and were not as severe. This one was triggered by something in my Taco Bell nachos. The meat? Sour cream? Not sure.
All I know is whether or not this thing comes out, I'm done with fast food. (subway should be ok?)
What? There is only about 25 feet worth of intestines. How many different things can go wrong in that process? Its not like gastrointestinal issues need their own specialty...oh wait.Hardly anything about internal medicine is ever easy, especially for unqualified keyboard warriors.
R1600TurboBad news.
Gallbladder is FULL of stones, according to the Doc. He wants to get me in within the next month and have it taken out. My Silverstone trip is also in lingo right now, and I'm about 90% sure they're going to tell me no.
R1600TurboI've been given the OK to go on the trip, but I still have to get it taken out when I get back. Hopefully it doesn't bother me while I'm there. I usually only get attacks every few months, so we should OK as long as I stay away from greasy/fatty foods.
And alcohol. Avoid alcohol.I've been given the OK to go on the trip, but I still have to get it taken out when I get back. Hopefully it doesn't bother me while I'm there. I usually only get attacks every few months, so we should OK as long as I stay away from greasy/fatty foods.

R1600Turbo^^^ Sorry about the late response. The only thing he said is he would have felt bad telling me no since it was a huge deal. So he said as long as I could take care of it by eating right, etc that I would be fine.
Just got home from seeing the same doctor, then seeing a surgeon immediately afterwords. I'm scheduled to have my gallbladder taken out next Thursday (7th) at 9am.![]()
