Is it me or has anyone noticed how hard it is to get ALL Gold &/or win the EXTREMELY HARD challenges? GT5 & other racing games are NOT designed with this in mind. Don't the programmers realise there's a HUGE difference in using a PS3 controller to drive versus using a proper wheel? I think it will be IMPOSSIBLE to get ALL GOLD & win the REALLY hard challenges. I drive my REAL car better than this! lol Anyone hints, opinions?

It is possible to gold everything with a DS3, just very hard... which is the point. 👍

Wheels are over rated.

Its not impossible (I'm just 1 B-Spec race of the platinum trophy having never used a wheel) but it is tough, you can see that wheels have some form of advantage by everybody at the top of the time trial leaderboards uses one so they certainly have some performance advantage over the regular DS3.

I'm not even that great at the game and have golded everything bar two of the Vettel challenges. I'm sure I could given time but I have no desire to drive that stupid car over and over.

Forgive my ignorance but Wat is ds3? I feel they cud program it better. The difficulty shud b lesser when using a controller whilst higher but more realistic when using a good wheel. It just makes more sense. And it sux how expensive the really good wheels are. And if u wanna get the whole seat and setup package it costs even more.

Dual Shock 3 Controller = DS3.

I'm not flaming, don't think I am, but could you type the proper way? I'm not going to try to do anythig, it's just annoying when I need to read something a few times to comprehend it. And if you want to take a risk, it's $160 for the Fanatec Carrera wheel, risk because the pedals don't always work. If you're fine without a clutch, the Logitech Driving Force GT is a 900 degree wheel with a sequential shifter. You can also use paddles.

It is possible to get platinum with a DS3. Takes some work.

Upping the sensitivity helps for Vettel challenge etc.
Nope, just glitch this infairly done challenge 👍 At least Suzuka, because Monza is easy and Nurb is managable...but Suzuka is insane

You have to delete the updates for that which leads to all kinds of other problems like losing DLC and other cars that have come through updates, its best to either try the thing or not.

Hmmm...you will spend more time trying the challenge than update the game 100 times...

But you won't lose anything by trying the challenge for hours on end, your thumbs might get a bit sore but thats temporary :)

:D True, true...but mate, I swear I tried to gold them legitimaly...Monza was easy, Nurb did silver...but Suzuka was terrific  I felt so good when I glitched Nurb...was hard to put X2010 through the wall...anyway, after they been gold, it was a peace...then golded the 8C challenge...platinum here I go :dopey:
Used a DS3 of course...

I just feel that the programmers are asking abit too much of us "average" people. I mean, I want ALL GOLD & ALL CARS as that appeals to the "collector" within me. And I certainly don't mind working hard for it. But the interface, ie. the DS3, is not as realistic as a good wheel, thus, not as easy to drive. They should have something like, TWO awards categories. One awarded for using a DS3, & the other using a wheel.

Don't get me wrong. I don't mind using DS3 to race. It's challenging & fun. But when you're trying to get just ONE gold, let alone many others you're missing, & you're doing one task OVER & OVER & OVER & STILL find you're stuck, it just doesn't feel fun anymore.:grumpy:

Honestly the only real hard challenges are some of the special events, which some take just a little practice, of course that ridiculous x2010 challenge, and the FGT (only because it requires you to be precise with the DS3 for about 2 hours).

All in all, just takes a little more work. Sometimes it is fun, I will get back to you on how crappy the x2010 is a little later. I was doing it earlier with an overused Sixaxis, I now have a nice new DS3. So if I can gold 90+% of the game with an abused Sixaxis, I'm sure you can at least 99% with a normal functioning DS3.

I've been playing with both analog sticks since the late 90's. That is the only way to use the gas and brake the most precise way. With this said, it is not impossible to clear all challenges with a DS3. But like many people have stated, it IS very difficult.

I've even seen one GTPlanet member who golded the Vettel challenges with a DS3.

I have to be honest, I'm dying to get a wheel for realism purposes, but I'm so used to the DS that I don't think my times will change too much, plus I'm as good as any wheel user.

I know you are new to GTPlanet but don't talk in txt speak because it is hard for people who's first language is something other than english to understand you. Talk in gramatically correct sentences. Also the moderators will come after you.

Hey cby,

Did you happen to take the time to read This while you were signing up?

Wheel doesn't make GT5 easier and it doesn't make you faster.

Another one of those "I know better than PD about programming a racing sim", just sit down and take 1 minute to think before you type.
GT5 is a sim, sims are to be played on a wheel, right? Yes, right but GT5 has also great controller implementation, and when I say GT5 has great pad support I mean it, since I got both wheel and sixaxis/dualshock 3.
Pad is hard? Son, have you ever used a wheel in your life? I can bet you haven't - since you type so much nonsense.
I got my Platinum using sixaxis (didn't have wheel back then) and I didn't moan, Vettel was tough but doable.
If you can't get all golds - it means you can't, you don't deserve since you're not up to gold's standards - so deal with it and don't blame the game for your incompetence.
Also, sorry to break this to you but wheel doesn't make you faster (it does, but after at least 4 months of use).

Practice more.

I was trying to do that:censored: Vettel challenge for 2 months... Actually was trying everyday through those two months, and finally I got my platinum 2 weeks ago(well, I needed some B-spec grind for the air of experience trophy
As they say above, just practice(even if it can take you 2 months:scared:)

As stated before, using a wheel will only become faster if you know how to use it.

Apart from the Vettel challenge I've managed to get all gold on the license tests and Special Events as an 'average person' using a DS3, and using the old school method of directional buttons to steer.
So it's not impossible but some indeed weren't exactly easy and did cause a lot of frustration before I finally understood what it took to get them.
Since it's not mandatory but optional to achieve gold (or do the license test at all now) they've already made it your choice to go through with any frustrations and simply being a 'collector' doesn't mean it should be made easy to collect.
In fact they've already made most of those tests available with SRF for those struggling to achieve it otherwise.
It might not be fun doing it over and over again, the fun or satisfaction is achieved by finally nailing it, just be patient, try again later on if you can't succeed after numerous tries and ofcourse a little luck helps most of the time.
But most of all, try to learn from previous mistakes and remember it's just a game and since that bloody Vettel challenge is keeping me from achieving Platinum I've simply accepted I won't collect it.

Only races I got a wheel for in the A-Spec mode was the FGT and Nascar. FGT due to the fact I needed the wheel ease of use due to not having the input definition on the DS3 option at the time. And Nascar cause I couldn't keep in the draft. Other then that I have gold in every race. Can't drift for a damn with my wheel but with DS3 I am able to gold the seasonal.

Im not saying I suck at the wheel but half the time it misses shifts! In real life I NEVER would miss a shift and when I play DiRT 3 its rare but in GT5 its almost like they dont want you to shift! Its really weird because I know for a fact I am shifting right but sometimes it doesnt go in (2nd gear is the worst for it). Also you cant powershift still and keep the gas matted to the floor and shift or its impossible to get in gear. I hope they make the shifting a bit more realistic and better clutch feel also. Maybe its just my wheel who knows.

It's not your wheel, 2nd is really tough to get in at the start. Gt5 has a weird habbit of not allowing you to shift if the revs are still too high. On other gears I don't notice it but sometimes 2nd won't go in easily, you have to wait half a second for the revs to drop.

I used to think racing at the highest level was impossible with DS3, but the guy driving the Blackbird in this video is using DS3 and he was keeping up with us all the way:

Not an easy car to drive even with a wheel. I thought it was impossible without accurate throttle control and slight steering inputs but apparently not.
