Anyone who would rent a crap ass BASE neon (with all of about 90 hp) and run it at 90 mph (quite illegal btw) is a fool. Plain and simple. The Neon RT-4 is a fine car and can take on any car of similar size in terms of performance, bith starait and in turns.

I never said it was a base model, 90mph on a deserted outback US road isn't exactly dangerous. Perhaps the RT-4 is good for a small US car in the US....

Maybe because there wouldn't be a sufficient market for a barebone pure sports cars in the states. Much like there isn't a market in the UK for US luxury cars which are so great (as seems to be implied), which have a strong reputation for not going around corners & extremely poor fuel economy in Europe.

Hell, the best cars made in the UK are both FORDS, the Jaguar and Aston Martin brands. The other two (Bently and Rolls) are now German brands. So lets not get too excited about the great cars around in your little country. The only thing the UK has these days, in terms of cars, is history.........

Don't you just love this guy?

'So lets not get too excited about the great cars around in your little country'

I never said they were great all I said was that my Uncle drove a Dodge Neon & it was crap and that incidently he drives a Westfield lol

TVR is still an independant company I believe & also saying how a lot of UK car companies have been bought out is true but then their specialist sports car companies which companies like Ford use to try and add some class to their own brand.

Theres really few car companies in the world these days, just different brands in several main companies e.g. Ford GM BMW etc...

As for Famine, well, I'm glad you think a UK mag should only cover UK cars in a clearly multinational game. I'm glad you think your cars are so worthy of mention compared to those of the rest of the world. Personally, if I lived in the UK (and I have in the past), then I would want to know a bit more about the WHOLE GAME< not just some tiny little local brands.

Oh, and I be very interested to know what model of Westfields outsold the Dodge Charger or Dodge Challenger. Please, enlighten me on those WORLDWIDE Sales figures.

Or are you trying to tell me that in the UK ONLY there are more Westfields. In that case, so what. There are probably more Smarts too, doesnt make them a worthwhile car for a racing game.

lol /Famines point shoots straight over his head

Blackfish you really need to calm down, Westfield's FW400 would beat the Saleen S7 round the Nurburgring, the Radical is the fastest production car ever to lap the Nurburgring and if you want to argue your way if the Neon is so great, why the hell is'nt ti sold in the UK and Europe. You see the occasional every now and then. TVR is one of if not the best British car brand so no Ford does'nt own the best. Sales wise I prefer limited runs of cars, they keep their value better and you get more individuality from your car, and as for Ford they don't sell many cars in the US but loads of good cars in the UK (Focus, Mondeo etc).

Going back to the FW400 and the S7 comment though by saying the FW400 is faster round an average circuit with more than left corners I'm not dissing the S7 or America, and neither were the others with their coments. Calm down or shut up.

What's a Westfield look like? I've honestly never heard of one. Someone post please.

Hey, no use bickering about US vs UK cars. And I may be wrong about this but, reliability in both US and UK autos are a bit suspect....lol.

Anyways, continue.......

Just me being sad here, the GT-90 was drivable, Jeremy Clarkson tested it on Top Gear ages ago around Le Mans although they jammed the wastegates open, no boost! :( As for the Espace, I am pretty sure it did more driving than that, I have vague memories of a magazine article with a journo testing it.
i hav efootage of it on a video i have called worlds fastest cars and they had the espace f1. eric bernard(french driver) was testing it and he piloted Frank Williams, yes FRANK WILLIAMS round in the espace f1 and he said i was extremely quick. and sadly there was no price on the espace f1 at that time.

You aren't wrong - not by some way... Lotus classically stands for "Lots Of Trouble - Usually Serious", and they're right. For some reason US cars built in the US have dodgy reliability, but the same lines built in Mexico are fine... Don't quite get that.

On the other side of the coin, non-UK makes made in the UK are staggeringly reliable - Honda and Nissan notably. Ford Europe cars are also brilliant, and are now amongst the top 5 most reliable cars sold in Europe (the EU-built Focus IS the most reliable car sold in Europe).

Their were 2 espace F1's and each did about 40 laps around a french curcuit, watched it on Eurosport ages ago, alan prost was driving it.

Haw Blackfish. Yer a muppet!

Why would a British car mag tell us about a car that we know nothing about? They are obviously going to tell us about cars that we know about. Do you think that Top Gear shouldn't tell us about the Mantula, Mantis & Mantaray because you've never heard of them?

And learn to quote right.

Sadly, there is too much truth in this statement. Ford in the states just plain sucks, almost across the board. However (and I base this on the comments of others, since I'm stuck here in the US) Ford models in Europe and Australia are quite reliable, as well as much more sport than here.

And just to be clear....your "points" did not go over my head, as was implied, and I did not misinterprit your posts. I merely reacted to how they came across to me.

My point was (and continues to be) that small makes will most likely not make it into GT4. In addition, mamy major makers from the US will get only superficial representation (for right or wrong can certainly be debated).

If I sound defensive, well, I am. There is a very clear anti-US car bias on this forum, and evry thread I see ahs comments slamming US cars. Some rightfully so, others not so. In any event, since I live here (and not in my native Scotland), then I will defend my home and the cars they build here.

As for the Caterham, which someone states looks like a Westfield, all I can see is...ugly. looks like a cross between a dune Buggy and a Prowler (which I also hate). I am not a big fan of open wheel cars, in any form.

Oh well, please keep flaming me, your reactions are quite enjoyable.

OK, as one Scot to another, "Stoap havering ya big dunderheid!"

Watch this and tell me you don't want that in the game. Let's see your "dune buggy" and "prowler" do this! http://venturifan.free.fr/nordschleife-r500.rm Right click and save as 9.8mb

Well Blackfish your post came of distinctly anti-UK

As for 'little old England'

Westfields are probably one of the most nimble & lightweight cars out there.

/say do you know the Queen? :p

I hope the new Vauxhall Vectra is in GT4.

So I can run it over in that Cuda.

I wonder if the volume of production correlates to this reliability issue. US based manufacturing plants, trying to turn out X number of cars per day, and the Mexico plant turning out <X per day... wonder if "our" boys are just getting sloppy at the end of a 10 hr shift? Then again, they're union jobs, so I'd imagine its 1 hour of work, 2 hours of break time...hehe.

No offense guys, that Caterham is not pretty. Looks like its mean around a track but..... ugh.

I really hope they give us the BTCC cars again [GT2], I thoroughly enjoyed those touring cars. Primera, Vauxhall, Honda, etc..... closely matched in performance and lots of fun.

Ok, all done.

Rich.

The reason why so many "Your-a-pee'ns" rag on American style cars is they can't enjoy them. They are stuck with those tiny pieces of crap, and it bugs them silly. They have to show pride with what they are stuck with.

Just try to drive around with a big American car in Europe, and see how many parking spaces you can find. If you do, see how long it takes before someone scrapes the side of it.

The gas in Europe is equal to $3.50 a gallon in the States. American cars use a lot of gas, compared to those tiny little four-bangers. Most people in Europe can't afford the extra cost.

So, American cars are simply not practical for Europeans to own. As I said before, they don't have a choice as to what car they can own, and they have to denigrate American to make them feel better with what they are stuck with for their pride's sake.

To be honest, it's not that big of deal with me, really. People do a lot more outrageous things for pride's sake, so to complain about this car issue, shouldn't be such a big issue in the scheme of things.

As far as the reliability issue, well, I'll say this. When I lived in Holland, I saw a lot of tiny little cars on the side of the road. More so than what I see here in SoCal.:D

European cars are the best in the world. Period.

edit: Also the 7 looks quite dated manily because the looks havent changed in like 40 years. Just hope its in GT4 so it can kick some serious arse in one :) .

Just coz a cars small doesn't means it worse :D

Don't forget we've got plenty of big cars over here too, my Grandparents drive a 1991 Mercedes 300SE (I think) its a huge car, but its very nice & does go around corners to a degree.

But when thats compared to most US luxury cars I've seen :odd: the build quality/handling etc... isn't as good. Also alot of US cars are automatic :p

US cars are good in US because: US is a relatively new country with large wide open roads.

European cars are good in Europe because: EU countries roads date back hundreds of years. And consequently are winding etc... which makes them enjoyable to drive if your by youself but often you get stuck in congestion :irked:

You've really got to see/hear/drive a Lotus7/Westfield/Caterham to appreciate it. Think of it of being a lighter version of an AC Cobra perhaps but with a smaller engine (although still very quick)

And yeah UK cars are often built extremely badly! :) Although Rovers are improving along with Jags (Thanks to Ford) etc..

You say us europeans are stuck with those tiny pieces of crap that caterham in the video only has a 1800cc engine and quite frakily no stupidly big and pointless engined car you throw at it would stand any chance of beating it. In europe we have the engineering skill to make small engines with lots of power. Small engines are light so cars handle well.

you said the caterham is ugly
r300_c.jpg

well it looks a lot better then those square and box like muscle cars you have. with there pointlessly big engines.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

Sorry. Got carried away. ;)

You Americans love your BIG ENGINES don't you

I dont have a problem with BIG engines, there is obviously no substitute for cubes. But what i DONT FREAKIN' UNDERSTAND is why they always have to be put in cars that wheigh too much, are too big and have terrible handling.

Put a V8 in a lighter car and make everyone happy.

Slap a turbo on a V8 and then i'm even happier!!:D

Aussie cars are the best anyway. But no-one ever thinks about us. We have a mix of everything. I own an import and my Dad drives a Buick. Theres a clash of two worlds for ya ;)

We don't hate American cars, we just prefer European ones. I do anyway, what has the US got to compare with Bentley or TVR two very different brands, other than that the Corvette Z06 is a good car and I like someclassic muscle cars especially the Mustang but I would take a TVR any day.
