Woah, A5 deja vu?


Anyway, I don't like the aggressive look to the car, it's more a la A5 or even for an A6. I think the current A4 is the best looking yet, everything is beautifully designed, without making things too complicated. The headlights on the current A4 are a good example, those are still one of Audi's best designed lights in my opinion 👍
 
I still can't get over how unbelievably cool those LED lights are. I hope they stay in the US bound model....the Audi A5 has them correct?

I've seen them on the A5 and they look a little bit too glittery for my manly tastes ;)

I'm still not convinced. I have to say that those LEDs look a little out of place. Maybe it looks a little too much like the A6? Also, some angles make it look just HUUUUGE.

Seen on the road I would probably think it was the coolest car ever but I'm just not seeing it in the pictures.
 
Hmmm, it's looking more and more like a 3-series every time I look at it.

I like how Audi's pulling a Porsche with the A4 and A5. The A5 was released first, and hailed as a very different car to the upcoming A4, and then the sedan is released and it looks almost identical. It's like the Cayman and Boxster (and 911, really).
 
Design wise its boring .... looks like other Audis and looks like the old one too
 
I decided today that I like the A5. However, I'm undecided if the A5-inspired sheetmetal will work well on the A4...

This is quite impressing IMO:

3.2 FSI - 265hp - 0-100 km/h in 6.2 sec - 330nm - fuel 0.71
3.0 TDI - 240hp - 0-100 km/h in 6.1 sec - 500nm - fule 0.69
 
Whats impressive about mid-pack performance with the 3.2L VR6? Its a good-looking car, and I presume it will drive quite well, but what happened to the gusto?

Furthermore, why aren't they using the 3.6L VR6 from the Passat?

The impressive bit is the diesel engine. Its faster than the petrol! ;)

As for the 3.6L VR6 I have no idea. The only audi taht currently uses it is the Q7, and audi are making a 3.2 V6 BiTurbo so I doubt the A5 will ever get the 3.6
 
Well, I loves the diesels, so anytime it gets anywhere near the performance of a standard engine, that does make me quite excited indeed. Problem is, they aren't shipping the TDI V6 to the US any time soon...

As for the 3.6L engine; Why not? Its already got 300 BHP, it is more than proven in the Passat, and should be going in a wide variety of (VW) models in the next few years... Namely the R36.

Oh, thats right. It came from VW.
 
I would assume because other than North America, the largest engine is far from the best selling. Sure the class is at 300hp now, but the percentages probably didn't work out in the 3.6's favour.
 
I think its because audi dont see the point in using the 3.6 v6 if they are gonna make a 3.2 v6 bi-turbo to counteract the bmw 335i's popularity which should mean that the 3.2 Biturbo will be a better engine than the 3.6 v6 as it *should* be just as powerful, have more torque but consume less fuel.

P.S didnt the 3.6 v6 originally debut in a porsche?
 
You're thinking of a 3.6L flat-six. I know Porsche, Audi, and VW all use the 3.6L VR6 in their SUVs these days...

At my Audi dealership, about 60-70% of the A4s have the 1.8T or 2.0T badge on the back. Very few have any other motor in them.

All Audi produced engines share the same bore size across the range - perhaps the 3.6 VR6 is different. That's why the V10's used in Audi's are not the same as those in the Gallardo. I think they all use FSI technology too - maybe the 3.6 doesn't?

Well obviously 5.2L and 435hp can't be 5.0L and 520hp. Audi-V10's bore is 84,5mm (same as V6s and V8s), whereas Gallardo has the same 82,5mm bore as VAG's straight-4's have. The fact is that Lamborghini is part of VAG and I (like to) think S6's V10 is a close relative to Gallardo's engine. Just a little detuned... Passat's 3.6L VR6 (bore 89mm) has an iron block and maybe that's why Audi doesn't want that under the hood.
