So I bought the new DLC specifically for the 2010 Golf R, since I own a 2012 Golf 2.5L and thought it would be cool to have a close-enough version of my car in the game. Here's the thing, though: The cockpit view in the car has the wheel on the right side of the car. Huh?

My understanding is that German cars have the wheel on the left, same as the US. And I didn't see anything in the the DLC notes denoting this car as a Japanese version or anything.

It's a bummer because the interior of the car is exactly the same as mine, as I was hoping for, except for the huge change of the wheel being on the wrong side for me.

Is there something I'm missing? A reason that things are switched around? The 2001 Golf that's already in my garage has the wheel on the left...

They didn't say anything about it's but that's the only possible reason, they had only a japanese version of it and they modeled that.

I don't mind, but it kind of bothers me as much as having a LHD japanese car. These two Vee Dubs, the Volvo, the Citroen C4, Peugeots and others should have their steering wheel in the left.

I don't think there would be any problem if they mirrored the dashboard when modeling the car. Then again, I have no idea how PD or any developer puts the real car in the computer...

Unless it is because of some strange licensing thing.

It's a Japanese game...the Japanese drive on the right side...

If that's the case, then all cars in GT5 would be RHD, correct?

To OP: I remember somebody mentioning that the Golf R has a detuned variant (which is what we have in GT5) in Australia, Japan, and South Africa, so that could be your answer.

Thanks for the help. (And thanks to all others here as well) Kind of a bummer considering I had to spend the money on it. Perhaps they should make it a point to designate which side of the car the wheel resides, doubly so for cars that are DLC. Oh well.

No. It all depends on what they have access to. If, let's say Ford, agrees to ship a certain car in that's LHD, then they'll model it as a LHD. And PD probably doesn't have access to all the premium cars in the game, so some or most of them may be based solely off of pictures. Or, if they had access to a certain RHD car, but they wanted to make it LHD for whatever reason, they could just mirror the interior model.

Yeah, that's just what I said in a few posts above. I mean, could it be that difficult to just mirror the dashboard? I don't see the problem on doing this. The only problem is fixing the numbers and letters on the buttons and gauges after that, but it wouldn't be that big of a task. Or it's probably something that can't be done for any other reason...

Title is wrong. It's not the wrong side, its the right side.

You sound just like jeremy clarkson lol

And is it that big of a deal? I own civic typer ep3 so at least owning a golf you get a premium version of your car while im stuck with a very bad standard version of my civic with a black lifeless interior :(

Wrong, German cars as well as US cars comes in both left and right versions. It doesn't matter where they are made. What matters is what market the cars are gonna be sold at, and in this case it's clearly the Japanese market.

In Japan there is lots of cars sold in Left Hand Drive. Some car companies sell cars with wheels on either side.

In the US you can also buy RHD vehicles. Some manufactures have dealer codes and such.

I live in Canada and own two RHD vehicles.

I can't complain, LHD cars are just wrong, and should be destroyed immediately :)

RHD - made for REAL men!

Then how come some mostly island-dwelling, isolated nations drive from the right side, hmm?

Because they're barbarians, that's why. Civilized world drives from the left. :p

Don't get this at all. I don't notice which side I'm on while I'm racing.

and Leonidae@MFT, I find that offensive.

Nah. It's the other way round. We're on islands, so we've been cut off from your vile barbaric influences...

Driving on the right is a practice that was developed centuries ago. In more violent times the road going theory ( albeit on foot or horseback) was that you keep your sword arm (statistically usually the right arm) facing your enemy passing on the other side.

So quite clearly, it means that people who drive on the right must be harder than those soft tree huggers that drive on the left :D

You can blame the french for going all soft on you and introducing you to the flower giving ways of the left!

This argument wouldn't be happening if we all drove McLaren F1's.

Burn a Prius!

^ someone who understands! Let's start a McLaren cult and then we just burst into online rooms stalking those who drive prius. Our names will reach all corners of the GT5 Sony-online world.

You mean driving on the left... RHD but drive on the left... Otherwise the sword arm would never face the enemy xD

As for this problem... I like RHD cars coz they feel better to me (as a brit) but a true driver should be able drive both RHD and LHD lol

So all WRC, GT and LMP as not for real men?

Half of the WRC cars are made in Britain (Fiesta and Mini), the Fiesta is LHD though not sure about the Mini. LMP are in the middle of the car although most are slightly to the right

pffft! yeah! i should wake up before i post huh!? :D

I agree with topicstarter, PD took the easy way out.

I wish they respected the make and the country of make, so righthanded for British and Japanese cars and lefthanded for US and European continental cars.

The only reason I am buying this DLC is because I want my game complete but I am disappointed.

WRC's are usually LHD because a majority of WRC rallys take place in countries where they drive on the right. Since rally cars are required to drive on open roads between stages, it makes sense for them to be LHD.

LMP Porsches, Lolas, Zyteks, Orecas, Courages, HPD ARX's are all RHD.

You're lucky, dude! I'm from Cape Town in South Africa, so these are the only cars that are 'right' for me.
