New Ford Falcon (Sorry for Hi-Res)

Stupid teenagers, oh wait- that's me I'm not a hoon though.
I can't wait til a magazine gets their hands on one of these new Falcons and does a comparo of Aurion Sportivo vs VE Commodore SV6 vs FG Falcon XR6. The Aurion already loses in lap times for the whole front wheel drive part and being a less than average chassis. But until now it's been trying to hog the acceleration glory. With all that torque the new Falcon should eat it.

I'd be willing to bet that a Ford 4.6L mill for a Mustang would cost more than a 6.0L mill for a G8 out of the box... Just a guess.

Better power curve, smaller in size, lighter in weight, generally more reliable. Can't go wrong really.

Of course, then Ford asks me if I want that EcoBoost 3.7L V6, and then I have to think about things a little more...

3.7L? I thought it was a 3.5L. That makes engine the Falcon in a couple of years.
I expect the current XR6T with its 270kw I6 to get to 100km/hr in just a smidgent over 5sec. That's scary considering the FPV models are yet to have specs released.

There is a 3.5L version that will see duty in the Ford/Mercury vehicles, and if I'm recalling things properly, the 3.7L version will be utilized in the Lincoln products and the higher-performance Ford versions.

And yes, the Orion-body Falcon was designed with the use of our American V6s in mind. Which is why so many people thought they were coming to the US. Or maybe thats because they still are. Ford is dumb enough to tell us one thing, do another, but have that "another" be a completely idiotic and otherwise wasteful thing.

Case in point: Developing TWO new RWD chassis when they could have just used ONE. And Ford people thought Mullaly would save the company...

I hope Ford's turnaround see them top Toyota but still fall behind GM. I just hate Toyota for being so high selling without a single good sports car- how annoying. Ford won't show the bonnet because that would have a power figure on it and they want to keep FPV's power a secret I think for a while.

Each brand in GM plays its role, and most of them have at least one car they designed themselves. I think. Anyway, we've been through this rebadging thing before Leo, and most companies do it. Lotus Elise uses a Toyota engine, Lexus is rebadged Toyota at times and vice versa, Infiniti is rebadged Nissans etc etc. And who says Opels are bad? Opel Astra/Vauxhall Astra VXR/HSV VXR is the sexiest hot hatch on the market.

New I6 make 198kw @ 6000rpm and 409Nm @ 3250rpm naturally aspirated on 95RON petrol. The XR6T gets a power and torque boost, meaning the I6 Turbo makes 270 kw @ 5250 rpm and 533Nm @ 2000-4750rpm. Those figures are running at 10psi of boost. The new XR8 V8 is straight out of the previous FPV so it makes 290kw @ 5750rpm and 520Nm @ 4750rpm. Are you all drooling over Aussie cars yet?

Odd power units...does not compute.

We Americans need HP and ft/lbs to drool.

Thanks for pointing me over here N4HS, and I say the Falcon is better looking, but not by much. I myself have yet to see a Holden I haven't liked either.

Pretty good power for a family sedan I say. And the FPV models will get more power Which is why right now I'm on my hands and knees for HSV to hurry up and get the LS3 before FPV actually can beat them.

It's too Mondeo-esque for my liking.

The BA/BF Falcon (and dare I say it, AU... kill me now, please) were good looking, because they were distinctive, and unmistakeably "Falcon". Now though, when I look at it (the FG) I see the latest Mondeo (which is itself not a bad looking car, mind). IMO the Falcon has lost some of its distinctiveness.

@ the FPV: could they have ballsed up the styling any more?

Give me an "old" BF FPV GT over that... thing anyday!

I can only imagine what the Ford V8Supercars are going to look like when this becomes the series used... *shudders*

A Ford fella told me at the Brisbane Show this year, before the falcon was unveiled, that it would have a lot of Mondeo styling in it. Then we made fun of the Toyota stand next to us. I don't mind, the old ones may have been "distinctively Falcon" but they weren't exactly exciting.
