Welcome to a new version of our forum software, which I refer to as "GTP9.2". While GTP9 forum updates were largely cosmetic, we can now take advantage of some pretty cool new features, and I'm happy to say that our Premium users are going to get even more with their subscriptions. Here's a quick overview of what's new:

  • New User Profiles - user profiles received a complete makeover, to help take advantage of some of our other new features. If you take a look at my profile, for example, you'll notice information is organized among different tabs. Everyone is now welcome and encouraged to post their real photo to their profile, which also feature a "wall" of public messages that you can send to your friends. Premium users will have complete control over their profiles, and can change colors and even background images to their liking. If you don't appreciate other's taste (or, in most cases, lack thereof), you can disable user customizations from any profile page. Quickly get to your own profile by simply clicking on your username in the yellow box at the top of the page.
  • New Friends System - add your favorite users as your "friend" on GTPlanet. Their avatars and links to their profiles will show up on your own profile.
  • Photo Albums - the new photo albums are tightly integrated with the new profile system. Your photos will be automatically resized (up to a point, you will see the maximum file size per photo on the upload screen), and you can quickly add descriptions to each. A robust commenting system, complete with smilies and BB code, has also been enabled. Regular users will be able to upload up to 50 MB of photos, while Premium users will have 1GB of storage.
  • Groups - "clubs" and groups centered around specific topics have always been very popular here, and now you have a legitimate way to collaborate on your interests! Social groups can maintain their own private "thread" of discussion and members of the group can post photos to a private gallery. Everyone is free to create and manage their own groups, even establish membership on a moderated or invitation-only basis. Start joining groups right away, or create your own now. (HINT: Fame and glory await the founder of the "Nissan GT-R Fanclub"...)
Those are the biggest new features, but you will also notice a few minor additions:

  • Edit your profile details directly on your profile page, by clicking the pencil icon.
  • The forum will attempt to re-size pictures that you attach to posts. Also, attached images will open in a "lightbox" without taking you to a new page.
  • Each time you edit a post, a copy of it will be automatically "saved" and can be viewed at any time. It's basically a revision history, much like what you see on Wikipedia. To view this information, click on the "Last edited by..." message in green that appears below edited messages. Remember, this will only apply to edits that you make from this point forward, and moderators also have access to your revisions.
I think that's it for now. There are sure to be many questions, problems, and bugs, so let me know what you find. Enjoy the new features. :)

Cool update, another forum I'm on is done like this, so if I ever get a premium membership I'll be customizing it for sure!

Edit: What do I win? :P But for some reason I feel like I've been cheating,

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

From,
Chris.

Nice changes. I think I'll take advantage of them soon. Just not yet, I'm making dinner.

Also. That took a little longer than expected to update. But absolutely worth the wait.

Oh sweet! I have the best idea for a club.

"i think ewillis is a pretty cool guy, he hardly posts and doesn't afraid of anything"

Seriously guys, make that and it won't be topped.

Awesome. A few forums I'm on have a similar setup, but I love how GTP9.2 switches it around so the profile pics are on the left instead.

BTW, does it look off to anyone that your profile stats are aligned with the right of your profile picture rather than the left? It doesn't look wrong or anything, it's just something that caught my attention.

I have a question about this: I have at times posted out of anger, only to go back and rewrite my post to be less confrontational when my head clears (usually withing minutes before anyone sees anything). Could we get in trouble for things we posted but quickly edited out? Like, say, if after the edit a mod gets curious as to what was originally in a post not having seen the original?

I do love the comments section as well.

I think you'll be fine as long as you didn't break too many rules when posting the original, it all depends on how you act and how well you repent from what you said. I'm not a mod however, so I don't know.

From,
Chris.

Btw I love the groups, already made two of them and I'm gonna make another for PS3 owners

I have plenty of "friends" marked on gtp..however they do not show up on my profile.

Yeah, I don't think this and the old thing work together, so you might have to remove them and re-add them or something.

Edit: On your profile, go to "Edit Friend list" and click "Friend" beside all of your contacts.

From,
Chris.

Congrats. I'm surprised it has taken this long!

Yeah, that did take a while. There were actually quite a few changes that had to be made to the database structure, and every single thread had to be processed.

Thanks for noticing that, I spent some time to customize the profiles to my liking. I also just noticed the profile stats and profile picture are mis-aligned, and will be addressing that shortly.

Don't worry about that - unless the comments that you posted affected the direction of the conversation or an individual person, the staff has no reason to check every edit for a violation. It simply means that if you post a bunch of porn or pirated movies and someone calls you out on it, the staff will be able to confirm that AUP infraction.

I haven't played with the contacts/friends feature to explain your issue, however I would assume that they need to confirm your friendship status. Are your "friends" people that you originally had marked on your old "buddy list"? If so, as Wallrunner51 stated, you will probably need to go back and check them as friends. vBulletin, for whatever bizarre reason, differentiates between "friends" and "contacts".

Wow...... my wish came true! :dopey: Thank you so much for listening to some of the suggestion, luckily I've got premium already...... 👍 Anyways, I'll try to customize my profile soon enough....... ;)

Awww, that sucks. :guilty: But I guess if the post was edited out in just a few minutes, it wouldn't count anything as much would it? Also, could everybody view the edit, or only the post editor and the mods could see it?

Oh, I made the VW Group just for fun.... :P

Is the photo album service only for use on GTP Forums? We can't hotlink, right?

No, I'm not really worried about quick edits ever being an issue. It would have to be a fairly serious edited infraction to justify any reprimands by the staff.

Right, you can post the images here, but not other sites.

What about them? (They're under the "Send Message" drop down menu and the "Contact Info" tab, in case you're wondering.)

Sorry, that was directed at your last sentence. ;) (In other words, does posting an image link in an IM count as hotlinking?)

Well, I define "hotlinking" as linking directly to the image file in question, and you won't be able to do that unless it's from a page under our domain name. Anyone can, however, view the page on which the image is displayed. So a quick copy/paste of the URL in your browser's address bar would work just fine.*

* This is all dependent upon the permissions set by the album's owner, of course. You can set albums visible to the public or only to your GTP friends/contacts.

Superb 👍 Great to see the new features are up and running. Can't wait to try them out (although I probably should wait, considering I just got to work!)

WOW!!! I was a bit confused when I viewed somebody's profile at first, (fair enough) but it's great now that i'm used to it. I especially like the friends system. 👍 Well worth the wait :)

Just noticed something kinda major..... how are we ment to see our previous posts in our profile? I used it every day to rejoin a conversation which I had taken part in previously...:scared:

Oh and how do you see which threads you created...

Could like these lists be re-added as an option to have on your profile because it used to be a one click opperation.

Try looking under the 'statistics' tab.

Try looking under the 'statistics' tab.

Ahh right! Thanks Wenders...👍 Is there anyway we could have it default to that tab when we open the user profile?

2 Other Questions Jordan... :)

How do we transfer exsisting galleries under the old system into the new one?

Like this one - https://www.gtplanet.net/gallery/index.php?cat=32552

Oh and how do we do all this colour and wallpaper customisation which was talked about?

I have another little suggestion, when looking at the profiles now it feels a little awkward to have a whole line of boxes going down the page. Is there any way of customizing this to place all the boxes around the top etc? Or is this there and I'm looking in the wrong place?

Cool, all the other forums i'm currently active on has has this visitors and friends features, i'm glad it's here now. :)
