My name must be I, damn I didn't know that.

yeah it's funny - the same with code_kev - is this some astrological compability thing or what? well we really can't tell unless they also reveal their birthdate - which they probably won't for obvious reasons...

Oh come on. You can't be I because I am I. Want to argue about it?

I did say that, but afterwards I explained what I meant, as you move around, your perspective of the shadows changes, it doesnt in the vids. Why do you find it so hard to beleive that PD would use a photo, not only does it look better than a texture created inhouse but it's common prctice in racing games to use photo's and edit them to fit into the game, ontop of that if you were bothered to do some research you would find that PD have even said they use photo's. And yes you need a light source, but you need one to create a shadow, unless it's a flat image and the shadow isn't a shadow it's just a darker shaded part of the texture. Ante proved nothing when he joined in, all he did was create doubts that he is a 3d modeller.
First thing I'd like to ask is if you guys would stop spelling my name wrong. Kinda simple to remember. Secondly, when I first came in here a few months ago and joined in on the debate on whether the canyon is 3D or not, I stated that everything mentioned in my post is from my best opinion based on all factors being equal. Now how did anything I say give you doubts on whether I actually do 3D modeling is beyond me. But quite frankly at this point, I have no need to prove myself. You might wanna visit the photography and graphics section of this forum if you wanna see my work.

Anywayz, back to the point at hand. Your statement where you say the perspective of shadows change as you move around the subject. And that is relatively correct. However, the position of the shadow will not change. Perspective is relative to the position of the viewpoint. Position is completely independent. So, as you move around the canyon, the shadows should not move unless the light source were to change position. If my understanding of your statement is correct, you believe that the shadow's position should change as you move. And that is not true, dynamically. Only the shadow of moving object would change position such as the cars. If this is not what you mean, then please restate your post so I can get a clearer understanding of the message you were trying to relay.

Not that the shadow itself would move, but depending on your position you would see more or less of it. I know I wasn't as clear as I could've in that 3d debate thread but I've not seen your work in the photography and graphics threads so I will and if your work is good I take back my comment on your knowledge. But we seem to have come to an agreement on the whole shadows thing.

Okay, I've jsut had a brief look at some of your work and it's good, my only decet 3d modelling comes from Bryce. Perhaps we'll discuss stuff in the photo's and graphics forums some time.

Perhaps. And if you use Bryce, you might wanna look into Lightwave 3D. Very good program for photorealistic work, just like in Bryce.

Well, you should ask garconis, he knows the guy.

So... Garconis is to blame for you getting hold of a fake Japanese translation with no basis in fact and claiming that it was the "real" translation, despite being given correct translations by me (in part) and someone who actually IS Japanese 5 pages earlier in the thread?

Garconis, you bad, bad boy.

Thanks.

Thread is dismayed.

Thread was enjoying a long, long gardening leave but was called out of his slumber to address several abused threads from Tercel_whiner. Now Thread finds that the Coalition must also be reformed. Thread is truly, truly heart-broken.

Please lock me as I no longer serve any useful purpose - despite starting off with some pretty photographs and workable translations.

Thank you,

Thread

 antde, I love your wording, as one might say in a calm politically correct manner of speaking.

The reason the shadows dont move on the Grand Canyon background is because its a flat texture applied to a really basic 3D shape surrounding the track, the texture being quite probably based on a photo that PD took of the real Grand Canyon & adjusted it so it fitted with the graphical style of the game.

cobras fully 3D Grand Canyon, with a video of a car going of cliff

Right. :odd: IT wasn't me who translated it. I just asked someone (who claimed they knew Japanese) to translate it, and they told me what it said (which appears to be wrong).

Why, thank you for your compliment, T5-R. I appreciate it.

To comment on your statements of the Canyon, you basically said that the canyon is in fact 3D. Though the canyon wall, which gets all the attention, is a 2D image. In order to figure out if the canyon wall was textured using a photo is quite unimpossible for us to find out. I've used photos for many of my textures and no one could tell if they were made by me through a third party software or if they were actual pictures. I will just go on what PD said which is, the texture was created by them using photos of the actual canyon as reference. If they're lying, then it really doesn't matter. I do know something we can all agree on: The canyon is a work of art which we can all appreciate.

This could go on forever.

Yeah of course the 'shell' of the background is 3D along with the track itself, but what I'm saying is that each and every cliff face isn't 3D, its just a texture. Which is what the original Grand Canyon 'debate' was about & one cobra has been proved wrong & now even admitted his mistake (Although I told him so from day 1  ) And yeah the Canyon does look nice, although I've got a bit bored of it now.

And yes live4speed, quite probably, unless a mod locks it. :irked:

You all are like the energizer bunny, you all keep going and going and going and going, and think you all should finally take out your damn batteries and stop argueing over everything...

Lol, I've nver been told I'm like the energizer bunny before. I'm all done anyway but somone else seems to have taken over from me.

The only time a Man should act like an energizer bunny is when hes with a girl, if you all know what I mean, Not when hes online fighting with other people lol... :D

  I can agree with that.

That is your daily advice from me  So why argue when you should save up all that energy and find a girl and go at it like rabbits  damn never knew how much rabbits apply to our everyday lives..

That reminds me. I would like to have umbrella girls in GT4.
