Those tires would be worthless in the winter. They would get packed with snow and the tires would be so out of balance the car would shake to pieces.
The Caterpillar looks tough with those.
That would be the official function of the propsed sidewall. The unofficial function would be so that it looks like a normal tire, allowing conformists and people who think the design is fugly to buy them anyway.
They've probably already thought of all that, they just didn't put one on here so they can show off the design better.

Cool looking, but the overall look of the car looks worse. At least you no longer have to worry about somebody slashing your tires anymore.

man.....i should've gotten a patent or something. i'd be rich.

i designed something like this in like 6th grade. i was bored, so i tried doing different tire designs. that must be some strong material.

Interesting idea... don't think it will fly too well with people. At first I thought from the first pic it was a joke but the other pics were a lot more insightful.

if someone slashes out your spokes...or just one spoke, you could be totally SOL. i'd hate to see those things pull a firestone and separate.

What if, say, it picked up a fork (literal silverware fork) in the road it got caught up in those spokes? Imagine the potential hazard of that fork coming loose and flying through the air at about 45mph?

Just a thought.

Any object could get lodged in the wholes in the rubber and come flying out. I don't think it would work well in heavy rain or snow. It would go into the holes and slow down the tire and create drag.

At first I thought that they had put metal tires that belong on train cars. It looked somewhat like metal train tires with spokes.

well I was thinking more of a back in time Model T type of wheel. :scared: then I saw the other pics and it made more sense...
