New Track Limits in place in FIA events

Oh great this new barriers is going to ruin my racing style. I generally try to race on the limit.

I like that PD is making an attempt to define track limits, and restrict the crazy "out of bounds" racing that was taking place.
I'm not sure I like the hard barriers because... well, "gamers".
"I" think "track limits exceeded" penalties (carried to the end) would work better, but, have no idea how easy/difficult that would be to "program".
I do hope they implement this in sport mode as well... heck even in arcade mode... make it consistent... (like race penalties "should" be).
I like consistency.

So, has anyone tested how quickly the game is able to "ghost" (if it even does) a car when it is stopped by one of these barriers?
Close race, several cars in a line, it's going to be very difficult/impossible to avoid running into the back of a car that suddenly stops (having struck a barrier) at 40+mph.

Well that's one way to solve track limits, Physical barriers! Probably easier to implement then cutting detection limits. Not the best solution but better than before. Will be interesting how the other tracks will fair in the known spots, I hope they role it out for Sports mode too.

I wouldn’t think this is specific to fia, it’s just these two races are on today. I haven’t checked but I would guess if you do a time trial in arcade they will be there too like wise when they come up in sport mode.

You know those missions where if you go slightly off track or touch another car a big message is displayed on screen MISSION FAILED? Maybe they will try that during actual races too soon. Fits in with their modus operandi of making stuff up as they go along.

No, they aren't there outside of Sport Mode.

I completely understand the inside cut being restricted but going wide should be allowed for safety reasons. That's not a good idea. It would be better to add very high curbs that unsettle the car instead. Actually this could work with inside cutting aswell.
It’s just a game, why should we care about safety? IRL it would be borderline stupid, but in a game it’s a good way to deal with track limit abuse

It’s good that the track limits are more sensible now. But jeez that’s an ugly way to do it.

I don’t know why they can’t just give a small penalty each time you put 4 wheels over the white line. Should be really simple.

Or just add bumpy curbs, slippery astroturf, grass or gravel to those areas. They did that (the opposite) with maggiore where they turned some slippery grass into tarmac.

Well, by safety I just mean it's not very safe to follow a car which makes an instant stop at 100+mph. If I can see a collision coming the guy behind me might not see it etc. Carnage.. Race ruined for many because someone else made a mistake.

I think inside of turns solid barriers are ok, outside of turns I prefer something else.

If PD cared about that they would let us use the outflow at the top of the mountain at Bathurst, which is also there for safety reasons. But I guess they'd rather have people get into collisions than enable track abusers. I can sympathize with their situation due to the lack of human track marshals, but it feels clumsy.
Don't cry about it impotently adapt and drive better ...allow for the drivers who can't drive a shopping trolley...on the track it's not just about you

What are you talking about? I'm not crying about anything. What I'm saying is the real Mount Panorama circuit doesn't penalize drivers for using the outflow because it's designed as a safety feature and a mechanism for slower cars to let faster cars by in mixed-class racing. These run-offs are there for a reason on the real tracks; being a videogame doesn't magically make those reasons disappear.

I suspect with these tire barriers we'll see more collisions as cars are suddenly stopped dead on the track in front of others.

I really can't see why this ugly method is needed. The track limits was visible good enough (there's the white line). They just forgot to detect and sanction leaving the track at that places. Detection and penalizing could be enough - as it is working along many track-kilometers at other places.

So does this mean you can basically pit lane manoevre other cars now every time you want to? Cheaters paradise .

I don't care where the track limits are. Looser, fine. Tighter, fine.

I do care that the track now looks like a pinball machine. I mean, really, is this the best they could come up with?!

This is a real-world track after all. Tweaking grip levels would've been the most realistic.

Some tracks do add tires on the inside line so why not? Doesn't look that off, sure some tracks doesn't use them irl, but this is still a game we're talking about. But what about cones, what if it was solid brick cones? :p

This is a complete ********.... omg yeah let's just put a concrete barrier to every run off area so when people fight for a position they kill each other... this is such a stupid move I wouldn't believe it if someone told me they did this...

Effects this will make:

1. Less great side-by-side racing and battling
2. More carnage in the races

How PD could fix this:

1. Remove this crap
2. Set correct track limits and punish people for cutting the track.

Absolutely agree with you!!!! One of the most stupid things that exhist.. (in real life) are Car Raciing tracks with Concrete and other types of solid objects close to the racing track! And I honestly hate all races that have concrete walls as limits.. on GTS . the same as I hated them on GT6. tooo.. so I find this move from PD one of the most stupid moves ever!!!!

The correct move should be to implement a correct reaction from the cars when they step on the Curbs!!!! And not just the one we´ve got. which is just a very small bump in most of cases!!! Try to use a trajectory that passes through curbs as they are normal track, on Assetto Corsa.. and see the difference...

Btw, I just love how the first FIA race with the barriers is with the understeering boat that is the Audi TT. Oh, and after driving through the much more restrictive chicane, this is what came to mind.

Whats wrong with using the chicane next to it. That turn used is more like a joker corner used in rallycross.

Are they going to re-film Lewis Hamilton’s track guide where he abuses the track limits now then?

Taken in a dark room and what?

Why not just update the track limits to be like on Monza. No need for barriers you can shove other cars into. 4 sec penalty for 1 inch too far seems to keep people on the track on Monza.

I guess since you can serve penalties on track and abuse the ghosting powers of penalties they had no choice but to put pillars in place. Fixing one bad situation with another.
