I'm so glad they chose to encode it as such quality that she sounds like she's orbiting the Earth in the Space Shuttle.

It's supposedly going to be the tallest building in the world. Now, I've heard there are four ways of measuring that accomplishment. Highest floor, highest roof, most floors, and highest point including spires / antenna. They did not say which of these it was. I do, however, know that the Sears Tower in Chicago currently holds three of them, and the Petronas Towers in Malaysia have the highest point.

This page is pretty good for those of you who are into the statistics of these things. Interesting that they removed the WTC Towers. Though they did give them credit at the bottom.

1. World Trade Center twin towers of New York City ranked fifth and sixth (at 1,368 ft and 1,362 ft) on this list until their destruction on Sept. 11, 2001.

Meh, I made my own concept sketch of a WTC building that I thought would be cool. I drew this over a year ago and never got around to submitting it though.

Basically it is a exact copy of Tower 1, only with a death ray on the top.

Feck with it now Bi-otch's.

I know the land where these 2 towers once stood in very high price, land in the middle of Manhatten, but is re-building the World Trade Center really necessary. Why not put a Memorial Park in there or something along the lines of that.

I'm just too conservative on this, I guess. These designs don't evoke emotions of solace and remembrance. It looks like a few pieces of quartz to me.

I thought they decided that the replacement wouldnt be so tall out of sheer paranoia that it would happen again...

I guess you're right. When I said that, i was thinking along the lines of past experiences causing paranoia...

Well, to me, paranoia is any fear that has no reasonable basis in either general or local probability. Perhaps it's difficult to judge when it is fair to use. I'd have said fear or concern. Paranoia implies too much for my taste in this case.

Eh, the WTC was / is pretty damn important. Though, they have learned to cope in the past 2+ years. Lots of office space that had been vacant suddenly filled up. Perhaps rebuilding a monster of a building isn't necassary.

Though it is nice to get them all in one place. And rebuilding has a certain toughness to it.

Shouldn't the whole building be the memorial? What's better than having the tallest building on Earth as the memorial?

YES.

Central Park is already the size of ****ing Rhode Island, the last thing we need on the island is another God-damned park. If they put a memorial park there, they could bet their asses that I would be down there to blow it up. This new plan is brilliant - I'd gladly rent a top-floor office.

I like it. I'm not sure what the significance of an asymmetrical design is, but so be it.

That stupid huge sparkle on the top blinds from being able to see half of the fricken' building..

Are you going to live the rest of your life in fear? If I had the money I'd be first on the list for office space in the 100+ floor range.

;) But where's the money in that? (He says sceptically)

Duh? I don't care. It's what New York needs to rebuild. Right now we've got a hole in the ground on the most expensive real estate in the world. I hate going down there. This thing would kick all ass; it's completely necessary.

Supposedly, it's just going to be 70 floors, with the excess height on top taken up by wind power sources, making the building self-sufficient.

 @ Rumple's design. Rumple, that is the awesomist thing I've seen in a while. I think that would've won the competition had it been submitted (would've gotten my vote anyway)
