I have been stuck on the national A 8 licence for FOUR HOURS. After absolutely struggling to get even silver I realised I’ve been on CM the whole time. EVERY demonstration and YouTube video has dirt tyres and idk how to change it.

Yes found the same thing, was struggling with getting gold, checked the demo out and they are on dirt tyres and I'm on comfort mediums wtf :odd:

You can't change it, it's a bug introduced in the patch yesterday. You're gonna have to wait for the next patch.

dont release a patch until you freaking test it out.
It's impossible for them to release a patch with the number of changes that were in the last patch, a week after the game was released, and fully test it, at least with any reasonable level of testing resource. I worked on a product where a full test took 3 months for a team of 12 people. And if they find any bugs during that testing that need fixing, you have to start all over again if you want to guarantee to cover all possible unexpected consequences of that extra bug fix. The game had gamebreaking bugs before the patch, I'm sure they'll soon have another patch out to fix this problem.

I call bullocks, why would they even change the tire settings in the license test, its progression breaking when you cant do a rally race for a test because the car is running racing hards. This should have been hotfixed immediately. Its called beta testing your patch like a responsible company and not pushing something so game breaking for us to beta test, Its slimy and needs to stop.

The reason why bugs exist is because people don't correctly predict the effect of a change that they make. Any change can potentially change absolutely anything else in the game in an unexpected way. They will have tested the patch, but without a team of hundreds of testers it's just not possible to test absolutely everything in the game in a few days. They pushed an early patch out because the game already contained game breaking bugs, trading off the risk of introducing new problems against the certainty of fixing some existing problems.

What’s most likely to happen is that they made the first patch a while ago (weeks) and realised the issue with the tire setup but took a decision to get the patch out and fix as much as they could as quickly as possible rather than hold up fixing crash issues and broken menu progression which are true game breaking bugs and stability issues.

Sometimes you have to be pragmatic and make a choice for the greater good at the minor frustration of some other things.

It will be fixed shortly, they acknowledge it in the known issues news feed in game.

Greater good? That effects 1% of players or greater good that effects 99% of people trying to progress? Maybe your not understanding, you CAN NOT PROGRESS, you can not pass the rally tests, ie game progression wall! That is effecting EVERYONE. All patches should be TESTED not just pushed out.

You can continue to do races and play the game. Progression through the cafe may have to wait until the patch.

Stability and actual broken (unplayable) is very much different to can’t do more menus for a bit.

I do understand, I can’t complete the S license until it’s fixed, but I’m just doing the post menu (finished then a couple of days ago) races and circuit experiences until I can go back to the licences and gold a few I didn’t first time through and finish the S licence.

You have no idea what you're talking about. You're just complaining that it doesn't work.

It's impossible to test everything over again for each patch.
As mentioned before, a bug like this doesn't exist because someone made the decision "hey let's remove dirt tires there". They changed something else, which by accident caused this issue.
Is it sad this hasn't been caught before? Yes, but sometimes this happens. As said, it's not possible to test everything and to catch every single bug. Especially on a product that is constantly being worked on.
I also work in testing and know at least the basics. I'm not in game testing so I wouldn't know exactly how they work, but neither do you.

No, its completely possible, you delay a patch for a few days. Instead you fix a big effecting the 1% and in turn cause a bigger bug that stonewalls everyone. So yes i and everyone has a right to 1 complain about the process and 2 request better testing of patches. Your just defending the status quo for whatever reason and i am just asking for more professionalism. Unless you really have anything useful to suggest on ways to move forward and bugs i really dont see you posting anything that really adds to the discussion besides OmG StOp ComPlaInIng!

It’s not a few days though is it?

It needs fixing and then the ENTIRE patch has to be tested again all the versions of it both console and languages etc. Then Sony has to sign it off, PD pay the charge Sony have for patches and DLC, then it has to be made live in all the global data centres etc etc.

So it’s not one day even if they were fixing a spelling mistake…

It’s not about percentages it’s about patching crashes and actual broken code is more important than changing the configuration of tyres.

You don’t have to like it, but we are where we are right now and they made the choice they did.

Is this happening on the Super License S-5 test? Got my time down to about 1.5 seconds short of the gold this morning and been getting very frustrated I can't get it any quicker. Watched a few YouTube vids and I'm losing circa 0.6 in the first sector and that's when I feel like I've nailed it

Don't stress it people, They got a patch out to sort a lot of things in a short time and unfortunately it has caused a few other problems so is patching that's how it goes when your working with computer programming.
I am sure they will send out a fix pretty soon so just chill and practice how it is and then when you get the correct tyres you should nail it no problem. Just look at it is as a few days practice.

drift mission in rolling stone
the tires used are RH , it should be CM
Difference being it's still quite straight forward to gold. The dirt license tests are almost impossible without the dirt tyres.

Thanks for the heads up as I would have no doubt assumed I was just that terrible at the test, lol.

How oh how did we ever survive over 20 years ago when games released on hard copy with no internet or post release patches involved? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall ever experiencing any "bugs" when playing GT1 and GT2 from launch but maybe I was oblivious to them. How come game developers were able to release games back then knowing they had one chance or am I missing something? I'm no software engineer, is the programming for these things just that much more complex to where that is impossible these days?

Mostly more complex these days and so much stuff inter dependent now.

Also that they ‘can’ post launch patch helps with development cycles and hitting release targets.

All the GTs have experienced delays some quite large if I remember correctly for GT3 but sport and 7 largely got close to hitting their release targets but were/will be significantly updated over time

I spent an hour on this the other night and only managed a 19.853 with what I thought was a perfect run, couldn't catch the demo ghost after turn 2 no matter what I did. Hopefully they fix it soon, I didn't even think to look at the tires. Just thought I was terrible :)
