Can't find the damn G27 in stock anywhere. Im half tempted to pick up the DFGT from gamestop and just return it if I don't like it....

Got a Driving force wireless wheel on Tuesday...I'm really having problems putting in some decent laps with a wheel as I've hit level 20 with my controller. I'm new to wheel racing as a whole...

Every once in a while everything comes together and I put in an awesome lap, but 99 out of a 100 laps is a complete monstrocity. I'm finding wheel racing extremely difficult at the moment.

Like Stotty said, stick with it. I promise it's worth it. The first few days I was driving like I was drunk. Now I'll never go back to a controller. You'll get faster over time. 👍

Man, I really need to get a DFGT myself. Playing with a controller is fun and all, but I can't really feather the throttle all that great or as easy as I would be able to with pedals. Using the right analog stick instead of the X button makes it somewhat easier but it just doesn't feel right. Maybe it is because I am used to using X as the throttle and I just have to get used to the right analog stick...

I'm going to wait it out til near Christmas and see if they drop prices any on the wheels at all. Would really love to get my hands on a DFGT though.

If anybody is worried about the quality of wheels, i can say they are fantastic. I've used a few wheels over the years with my consoles. i had the official Sega Saturn wheel, then i had a madcatz PS1 wheel with vibration, followed by a Ferrari wheel for the Dreamcast to play Ferrari 355 Challenge. They were all pretty crap to be honest.

I have a G27 now and the quality is exceptional, especially compared to the previous wheels i owned, the FFB is awesome and helps you feel the car (depends on the game) and you definitely will be faster than with a pad.

2 players of equal skill but 1 with a wheel and 1 with a control pad, the guy with the wheel will be faster. You have more control over precise turning, brakes and throttle with a wheel and that is important. Aside from that, its more enjoyable unless you're feeling super lazy.

Ive been driving with a wheel since PS3 and GT Prologue. My first advice is have something to fix it to. They are absolutely useless when used on your lap. When force feedback kicks in you end up tilting the whole thing and not turning. I bought the G25 when I could finally afford a game racer seat. My mates made a pretty good one though. If you have room and are not that bad with wood or a welder id give it a go. Like some of you my laps suffered at first but once you get the hang of it you will fly. I could never co-ordinate manual gears on the pad. Changeing down meant tapping the brake. Now I can ease off and change down a gear. On some tracks this alone will make you a second a lap quicker! Good Luck to all you new "wheelers".

One downside for me was that the G25 doesnt work on the Xbox. I said i wouldnt buy a wheel for the Xbox cause its a microsoft single manufacturer scam. After hating forza 3 with the pad I relented and bought an MS wheel. Nowhere near as good as the logitech but driving games just arent the same once you had a wheel!!!

I've had a driving force pro since gt4. My wife very kindly bought me one along with a playseat. I have had every gt game on release day. I can only say to anyone considering purchasing a wheel to got for it. I don't think even now, after years of having one, I am faster using a wheel over a controller....but that really isn't the point. If you enjoy gt, (which if you don't and your on this forum, I'd be thinking hard about the state of my life) then there is no better gaming experience than being sat in a nice seat playing gt with a wheel with ffb and 900 degree rotation. Sweaty hands gripping onto the wheel whilst taking a gt1 car down the mulsanne straight, feeling every bump and holding on so tight in case one spins you out. There is nothing like it. Just to give you an idea, I spent the last part of my stag night in a gt4 session and every single person, gamers and non gamers could not think of a better gaming experience ever. Like someone else said, it's not about speed, its about fun and it just doesn't get any funner. (sic)

Anyone considering it, just do it, you will not regret it, put one on your xmas list today.

Been playing since GT1 with a DS. Got GT5 and a DFGT same day - I'll never go back. I modded a keyboard stand to mount it and screwed some velcro strips into the floor of the man-cave to stabilize the setup. Works like a dream. No idea whether my times are faster or slower, but it just feels right. Up to Level 13, but haven't been able to play as much as I'd like.

WOW! I had no idea this thread was gonna catch so many people, new "wheelers" and old. Thanks to everyone that contributed, and good luck to anyone considering buying a wheel, you won't regret it, except maybe for the loss of sleep :sly:

I got the Driving Force GT. The Nurburgring Special event with the wheel was so intense. I used to just sit on GT4 for hours and hours, but after the four sector trials and the whole course together I had to stop, i was exhausted, it was so intense. Every corner was a trial.

Loving the wheel dfgt the main issue is the paddles especially on tight corners like eiger norwand where you really need to change up and down a lot. I'd loves proper column attached paddles like the g25 or 27. But their cost is more than double now.

I went from a DS3 to G25 in GT5P after golding the game with the DS3.

I had to start the game from square one to learn how to use the wheel properly. I was a mess.

You have to work ALOT harder with the wheel, I think thats the main issue. Full lock from left to right was a quick flick of the stick on the DS3 whereas the wheel requires a lot more work, 900 degrees of work.

Well not many cars really have 900 degrees turning angle in real-life. Formulas have 270 and almost everythin else 270-540. I bet 900 degrees is pain in the ass :D

I am still using my trusty DF PRo that I have used since GT4, Have played Grid, Shift, GT5P with it and it's still going strong:tup:

I picked up a DFGT today and I enjoy the game 100x more with a wheel. It took me about 20-30 minutes to adapt, and my lap times are already faster than they were with a controller. A wheel adds so much more depth to the game.

Now considering taking back the DFGT and ordering a G27 direct from logitech. I will never play this game with a controller again 👍

haha yeah, what is up with the obession of >900degrees rotation? I nowhere use that much rotation in my street cars unless I'm parallel parking!

I have yet to turn my DFGT a full 900 degrees for any turn I've encountered in the game. Not sure why it can be turned that much tbh. IMO Im turning the wheel the exact same amount as I do in my own car.

I'm also one of those old analog vets from the very first Grand Turismo. I actually bought a Driving Force Pro back when GT4 came out. However, I didn't really have the room to set it up so it's been sitting in a box for years collecting dust. When I moved to a new place this year, I took it out and mounted it to a TV tray and practiced with it on Prologue. For GT5, I decided to go all in and stick with the wheel. I'm more consistent with an analog right now but the wheel is much more rewarding. 👍

I still need practice on good passing skills, putting enough wheel into tight corners, and being more confident accelerating out of corners. Wish I could put a rookie stripe on the back of my car.
