Just seen this on the news, a British team has just beaten the world speed record for a steam powered car. hit over 150mph on the 2nd run which dosnt sound bad for such old technology. the old record had been held since the early 1900s!
Theres a clip on the BBC website here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/8209288.stm which shows the 'car' in action.

This means that with the steam powered record, British teams now hold the overall land speed record, along with the diesel land speed
record

It should have been LNER Garter Blue. And it's race number should've been 4472. :3

Sounds like a steam Turbine, though I love the way it left the line in a cloud of steam, as if the Cylinder cocks were open...

I still believe that, if they'd tried, the N&W J-Class could've at least broken the Railway steam record. Rumor is that it hit 140 on trial, but this is as official as NYC 999 or GWR's "City of Truro" hitting 100 mi/h first.

((It's true...Flying Scotsman holds the official record for first engine over 100 Mi/h.))

Try this on for size. It'll be setting the human-powered land speed record in a couple weeks (a Canadian team).

I know it's a drink bag, but every time I look at it, I'm reminded of a catheter and urine collection bag, for some reason...

Anyone know the rubber band record? I know a team has taken a rubber-band car out to the salt, but I don't know how fast it went.
