Does anyone else want this removed?

In practice mode I will run the t**s off my car and sometimes that results in going just that bit too fast and comng off. Now

I'm perfectly happy to lose the current lap, but for the next one to be invalidated is just no help, why am I being punished when I'm the one setting the times and just trying to beat myself?

I just end up restarting anyway whenever it comes up, but it would be easier to merely finish the lap and carry on.

Also I once got 7 invalidations at once :| That was just retarded.
 
I don't mind it. People out there find too many creative ways to cheat like using the walls. This doesn't effect practicing so why take it out? I mean if I am simply practicing than I can still view my times and that's all I need, I don't need a "valid" time to feel how my car is running and see what I can do to shed seconds.

I can see the point if it's the last corner and cutting it will give you extra speed down the straight, which will result in you starting your next lap with a higher speed than you should. If it's not giving you any advantage for the next lap it's pointless.
 
It's there so you can't get a faster run onto the straight. It was in F1 2010, and it was a real pain! The next lap invalidated system in this game works like it should, I say leave it be.

I never understood that either. I guess, in certain situations, you could cut across the track and have a higher speed at the start, thus having a faster time.
 
It's annoying, worthless and makes absolutely no sense.
I agree, it should be removed.
What's the logic behind, if I smack every wall and cut corners my lap still counts, but my next lap, which may be perfect, won't count.
Just another case of PD having things in the game that make zero sense.
 
Thats a fair point, but why does it matter for practice? The game doesnt have leaderbaords so all youre doing is proving to yourself that you can cheat :/

Yes but you can still give yourself an advantage in a warm-up lap coming onto the straight. I've personally never seen "next lap invalidated" apart from times I've went off in the final few corners, every other time earlier than that it's just invalidated the lap I'm on.

No. Yes it can be annoying, but a paramount feature for Time Trial.

I've only experienced the next lap being invalidated if i cut a corner or do something odd when i'm near the last turn.

This has happened to me also, but i think the way it works is the message history that pops up isn't cleared. So the first time you invalidate the next lap you see one message. Do it again and you see one more so you have two. Do it again and you see three. I think thats how it works anyway.

I suppose it could be taken as a hint that leaderboards are coming. No one would like it if they put in this feature as soon as leaderboards come along, so why not put it in from the start...

It will matter to some people who use the practice leaderboard to accurately assess their cars performances on that track, even if it's only a few hundredths of a second gained, it's technically not a valid lap. I'm not one of those people myself but there will be people out there that do.
 
Why does it make any difference except on the final corner or so? If it's to stop the next lap being taken at an advantage, that's the only area that affects that...

It's illogical to invalidate the next lap for anything happening in the first half of the lap, but apparently they didn't feel like putting in a script that tells the computer to only count wall-banging at the end of the lap towards invalidating the time for the next.
 
Nurburgring...right after you "start", bump the wall on the right just before the right-hander to begin your lap. You'll laugh.

This is the obvious reason why. Everyone is trying to find that advantage, and for some, it will be cutting corners, or riding walls to get a higher speed at the start of the lap. I'm fine with it. Most of the time, it's quicker to restart anyway, whether the next lap is invalidated or not.

As far as my experience goes, the next lap is invalidated only if you mess up in the last sector. Atleast on the ring I've messed up early and only the time turned red which means the current laps is invalidated, but if I've messed up after the long straight it invalidates the next lap aswell.
 
Well i wouldn't mind if they give me 1 invalid lap but i usualy get like 5 laps so i always end up restarting my time trial.
 
Agree, invalide laps should show up in the timing anyway, as they are YOUR time trials, but they could be COLOURED differently... or tagged.. to distinguish them
 
I don't mind that they invalidate my next lap for the reasons listed but I think its F-ing ridiculous that they will invalidate more than one lap. I got stock on the wall around the last corner of the high speed ring and got several "next lap invalidated" messages I thought that despite the amount of messages they all meant "next lap". I was pissed when I ran the next lap clean only to find out even the following lap was invalidated from my accident 2 laps ago! WTF! I quit the time trial without bothering to see just how many laps they invalidated.
 
I was trying out the X2010 and got a ridiculous number of next lap invalidated and was eventually just doing a restart every time which becomes tiresome if you want to get used to a car. I can see why a short cut on the last corner ought to invalidate the next lap, but hitting a wall will slow you, not give you an advantage. I have yet to even see wall skimming allow you to keep better speed than clean cornering.

I suppose their thinking (or it could just be laziness) was that doing it for the whole lap would save programming. Just to have a course set up with the lap invalidations on just the last corner might actually involve a little extra work and they had such a tight deadline to get the game out so soon after the release of the PS3.

I'll put my claws away now lol!!
 
Only bad thing IMO is that when you redraft they record your fastest lap and count is a new trial. So when I took out my tail happy viper around my test track and invalidating countless laps, all top 10 slots were taken up by my ACR. Worst thing is though,'that pre ACR it was full of 10 different cars. All those times gone :(
 
Yes it is stupid, unrealistic & should be removed. You'd only maybe have a qually lap invalidated in real life if you cut a corner that you'd been specifically told not to cut, or broke some other pertinent safety rule ect. For a game to invalidate the next lap, that you haven't even started yet, is unreasonably harsh & coresponds to nothing in the real world. The contradiction is that sometimes just grazing a wall will get that lap & the next one invalidated, yet some corners can be cut altogether without even getting a penalty! PD are so lame at implementing any kind of realistic motor racing penalty dynamics whether in race or qually.

What they should have is a stewards AI program running in real time that gives out realistic penalties ie:"drive through for car number 26 for making a jump start" ect. In qually & Free Run they should invalidate only the lap you're on when 2 wheels have left the track (kerbs/rumble strips & white/yellow lines are part of the track, just like most clean racing forums stick to). Also, a proper internationally recognised flag system needs to be in operation for there to be any realism in the motor racing experience. GT is a good driving sim but it falls flat on it's face as a motor racing sim, simply because it fails to simulate the most important dynamics of a motor race, namely the rules.

You guys need to race cleaner. Stay on the track, dont smack a wall and you will be perfectly fine.

If the invalidated laps overwrite other clean laps, then that would be a problem in my book. I haven't run into that yet though.

This^

The only issue I have with the system is that when the HUD's off, there's no way to know whether your lap's invalid or not. Everytime I feel I have gone off the track, I have to pause, turn the HUD on and check whether the lap's still valid or not:tdown:
 
The amount of panty twisting here is amazing, here's an idea, don't drive poorly and you'll manage to get a valid lap after lap.
