Shift 2 is sooooooo bad though. The graphics are good and there are some good things but the physics suck noodles and the cars are light as a feather and magnetic so you can get stuck to a wall or another car just by barely touching them. Or they repel you and you spin out. The ONLY things really, that I wouldn't mind having are a couple of the cars, engine swapping and tire pressure tuning. That's it.

You have to remember though. Shift 2 isn't supposed to be a full simulator. It's still supposed to have an arcadey feel; though I can understand about the lightness in the cars, it's too much and quite frankly, it ruins the entire experience for me.

Well, steering in general is impossible:yuck:
With my DFGT, the steering is floaty and very un-responsive, even with advanced sensitivity set to 100:tdown:

Ohhh yeah, I absolutely agree regarding the LMPs (Audi fanboy in da house!). I just think GT5 would be so much better if they included more actually entertaining cars. Yes, the interesting cars are more that those in any other game but a big chunk of them are standards and it's not even half of the so called "1000 cars" PD is advertising. Don't you ever feel something's missing everytime you visit the dealership?

I don`t know, there are alot of cars I miss. First of all, I hate this stupid UCD (And the OCD... come on, thousands of trucks, a stupid fiat PANDA, but no s7/gt-one etc!!!!), Im searching a GT-one since 2010! I have repeated the cyclus atleast 100 times since then and not a single GT-one has encountered me.
Why im saying this? Because I would love it if they include old sport cars (A Ferrari 550 Maranello - one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever or a Diablo) as used cars (with premium models of course).
Or some real classics like some modified e30 or e36. Just like in real life.

But I use race cars for most of the time, eventhough its pretty fun to use sport cars (a 458 italia with stock exhaust :) ) at 600PP online races against race cars... They own you at the corners, but get eaten up at the straights.
And as a tifosi, I would love a modern Ferrari race car... For example, the 458 race car which raced at the Sebring 12 hours this year or a F430 from the Ferrari challenge.
Its just a huge let down to race as a Nissan or Chevrolet driver xD

I enjoyed Shift 1, I just didn't care too much for the sliding and bouncing that all the cars seem to do once upgraded(still there, even after the updates) and the cars felt very similar to each other, not all but some.

The sounds in the Shift series are really nice and the blurred vision is a nice effect(not realistic visually, but I see what they were trying to achieve). The one thing I'd take from Shift and add to GT5 would be the sounds. Some cars in GT5 sound nice, others.....not so nice.:)

I'll be adding Shift 2 to my racing collection soon.👍

Le Mans 88
After playing Shift 2 for a few hours I'm convinced SMS has read this site more than PD.

If they can refine their physics engine the Shift franchise will be a real alternative to GT and Forza.

And frankly i do not want that to happen, i want my old NFS back, the good ol days of hot pursuit, underground and most wanted. Not this simulation crap, leave it to the real sim games. NFS has been doing a great job with it's arcade racer, why change?

To get a few things straight, I love GT5 and Shift 2. I feel S2U can feel close to GT5 if wheel settings are changed.

GT5 can definitely take some notes from S2U. So here's my list:
1. Being able to save set-ups on cars(hearing in future update)
2. More real life tracks and less fantasy
3. Car damage
4. Vinyls, more rims, rim sizes, etc.
5. Engine swapping
6. OFFLINE AI(sorry, had to use caps)

Really if GT5 would take out the 500 or so cars that are either electric, different trims, and just cars that no one would ever race they should be able to add these things. Like to see less cars in GT5 and more content put into it kinda like S2U is. I'm not saying lets "ricer" out GT5, but if it is going to be gearhead's dream game it'll need to change its ways sooner than later.

That's what Hot Pursuit is for. Is there a reason two different teams can't make two different games under the same large umbrella?

I hate the auto head turning in tge helmet cam of Shift 2 ,
it's doesn't made sense. it's can just for looking but driving.
Just like in GT5 switch the view to left or right, can't going straight when it switched .
without a actual head turning and the sense of moving direction then to change the
view direction it's so crazy.
I tried the head tracking feature in GT5 arcade mode,
it's feel more natural when turn the head by myself, can still going straight ,
and I still can keep a right direction even in a conner when I turn to see the car beside me.
But the best way to do this, is using multiple screen let players to turn the head by themselves.

I also could not get used to it, although I think it's an innovative idea and some people really like it. For the rest of us, there's also a regular dashboard view which I personally find a lot more useful than GT5's dashboard mode. 👍

Also: for those complaining about the physics.... Even the biggest skeptics agree that after the latest patch the physics now rival those of GT.

Shift is a brilliant game if you like racing rather than driving.

Yes. Saving transmission settings was there in GT4, but it isn't in GT5.
2. More real life tracks and less fantasy
- Yes AND No. I want the Alpine Testing Course, but some of the GT tracks are really well made and challenging (try a 10 lap race in an F1 car on Deep Forest Raceway!)
3. Car damage
- It's there, albeit a little under-exaggerated. Basically, they're working on it.
4. Vinyls, more rims, rim sizes, etc.
- No. Just, no. This isn't "gaybar pimp your car united", this is gran turismo.
5. Engine swapping
- No. In real life, you can NOT just dunk a massive engine into a Peel P50 due to conversion issues, cooling issues, etc. so on a driving SIMULATOR, this feature isn't good; though it would be funny.
6. OFFLINE AI(sorry, had to use caps)
- A-spec mode.
"Really if GT5 would take out the 500 or so cars that are either electric, different trims, and just cars that no one would ever race they should be able to add these things."
- There are only a handful which are electric, and every car is raced no matter how often. One of the main points of Gran Turismo is car individuality and variety which makes the game a whole lot more fun and interesting and unlike any other game which only focuses on cars that you will never be able to really afford.
"I would like to see less cars in GT5 and more content put into it."
Agreed sort of. Same amount of cars, more detail.
Kinda like S2U is. I'm not saying lets "ricer" out GT5, but if it is going to be gearhead's dream game it'll need to change its ways sooner than later.

Debatable. It seems like a gearhead's dream to me already.

I don't agree, GT5 is not just about road cars, not by any stretch of the imagination, racing is the name of the game, so why not give us features to make racing cars from road cars.

Change wheel width to give us better traction, make the tire more "low-profile" like a racing car.

Edit the wheel arches to bring the whole car down without causing the wheel to rub, generally called a "wide body kit" for NFS fans.

Change the hood to include vents, so the newly added twin-turbos on my drift car don't melt my engine.

Why no vinyls ? After all that's pretty much what a livery editor is.

Racing IRL has differing liveries on cars, ESPECIALLY drifting its a part of motorsport, not JUST a part of NFS.

So please get off your NFS hating high horse and realise that's something NFS does well, if you want to make a stupid looking car then go ahead but some of us would use the NFS style car modification features to make our car look like an authentic racer / drifter, and it would be AWESOME !!

Would improve the life / playability by a million % .

I agree with ya man.

@counter345 I definitely respect your concern for change, but everything changes and evolves. GT5 to me is still like all other GT games with better graphics, refined physics, more cars, online play, and a bit of special events. This is enough for now. I do love playing GT5, but only online anymore as a-spec ai is blah and b-spec is just not that interesting to me.

I see nothing wrong with personal livery designs. Would be neat to see everyones creations as some would be top notch designs.

What I mean by engine swapping is maybe a GTR twin turbo set-up installed into a 370z. I don't mean anything drastic and keep it manufacturer specific. Although I did see a Pacer stationwagon last year at Pinks All Out Norwalk with a 2010 vette motor in it which won the event.

I believe GT5 physics and class mixed with the Shift customization and intense racing would be an uncomparable racing experience to all others on consoles.

How is creating race liveries a bad thing? In Shift 2 I can buy any car in the lot, and turn it into a race car, complete with realistic looking liveries. In GT5 the best I can do is make the most tricked out, but bone stock looking commuter car. No widebody kits for wider wheels, no aero parts, digital dashes, and no sponsorships. Just a bunch of commuters driving in circles. It's silly.

You can do plenty of engine swaps in real life. The ones in Shift 2 are all very doable, and I can show you real life examples of most, if not all of them. Many of the engine swaps simply allow for other trim levels of the same car, ie swapping a V10 into the V8 R8.

Can't believe no one has said this, what about the sound! I was just using the audi r8 lms and the sound was out of this world!

I agree. Sounds monstrous and meaty. I done the 4 hour endurance JUST for that car.

If Kaz was to take just 1 thing from Shift then it should be the racing! Make GT feel like a racing game and not a Sunday drive game!

This, and while he's at it, he should also tell Bob that he's supposed to be trying to win, rather than doing relaxed, recreational rounds around the track.
