DAM i wish i had used the mx 5 on saturday :lol

we were doing so well it was by far the closed racing i have had on the game up to now.
addictions you should have gone for it mate, i saw you next to and was just about to tap the brake to file in behind you when you slowed down:)

it's like i said earlier mate i was just a camera car in this one.
told you in the middle of last week the mx was a good contender 300 brake with the weight of a king size mars bar lol

Damn, it looks like I bumped you somehow. I was the second car to go past, but I was sticking to the edge of the road on the other side. Man, you never can tell with this game...

it was just a little clip mate i was keeping well over to because i didn't know which cars were racing for points so i let the chaos passed then have some fun. i wouldn't worry about it mate no harm done. think i'd got a wheel on the loose stuff anyway so would of hit the wall anyhow...
besides i told people to close there eyes for the 1st 30 seconds lol

I just did today a little worm up (Nordschleife x1/ Spa x2 times) with  Manny, and all i can say that he is quick :trouble: I'm still thinking about defending title but that is going to be herculean task.

Thanks guys. That Scirocco just happens to be a car that I understand. Don't ask me why, because I hadn't driven it before this week. I put it head-first into the Armco the first time arvore and I ran the Ring in it, and the car and I haven't had a harsh moment since. (finger crossed).

And all that practice in the Lotus Elise on Spa for the NFSUnlimited contest forced me to come to terms with that track too. That track was never one of my best. As a matter of fact I dreaded it almost as much as SteveO...

Didn't do as well on Brands Hatch though! Adddictions and arvore ran clean out of sight! I felt like Grandma driving to church.

EDIT: It was pointed out to me that the first two races should read Manufacturers Race Lobby, which is what they now say on page 1. Only the third race will be in a Mixed Race Lobby.

I had a good time in both of the practice sessions, although the first pitted me into an MC12 GT1 because I can't use the Carrera GT which is why I let everyone pass me because I had an unfair advantage. NC disappeared at the end of the race though - what happened? I kept looking for you but you just...disappeared.

The 4.00 rating race was better but the controls are still getting the best of me, to the point where it cramped up my hand. :p I'm real close to just selling the thing if I'm to be perfectly honest.

And I'd probably buy it from you... maybe your copy won't have these 🤬 slowdowns that my copy seems to enjoy putting me through.:irked: When there are seven or eight in a lobby it's like driving through mud the whole race.

I'm very seriously considering making a third lobby this weekend, as more than 5 racers just wreck my framerates, and I can't be the only one this is happening to.

Let's address this exactly as if it were a PC - what resolution are you using?

OK, now i know what was going on in my cars, especially in Carrera but I'm happy that i was so close after 7 days of no racing at all. I'm practicing really hard. :trouble:

Well the monitor is 1080i capable, but the game runs at 720p.
The signal runs from the PS3 through an HDMI cable to a signal switch. This is a simple Y junction that I can switch between cable TV HDMI and PS3 HDMI. Then to my Onkyo Surround Sound Receiver then to the Monitor (all through HDMI).

When there are seven or eight in a lobby it's like driving through mud the whole race.

I've had this from reaching Tier 4 in single player, that was some where in December or even later, like couple days after Shift release, first patch didn't help, second either. But problems with on line start after second patch, since more player could participate in one race that cause slow downs.

My setups are the same as your Manny but signal goes straight to T260HD monitor.

Dividing this weekend race into three lobby would be a serious heart knife stab 👎 Group A had really fast players, Stevo, arvore, Hog, Manny and my self. I couldn't possibly think of better opponents. Dog fight is hanging in the air 👍

Well, I'll try connecting the HDMI directly into the monitor. Maybe the Y switch or the Surround Sound receiver is proving to be a bottleneck somehow.

My internet connection is as fast as any available in this area, at about 36 Mb/s and my PS3 is hardwired into my router.

If I find I still have framerate problems this weekend like I had last night, I'll just withdraw from that particular race. Not what I want to do, but it becomes impossible to be competitive when those slowdowns occur. :(

Yeah that is really a pain in the ***...:ouch:
Last night for the first time in this game(i get it all the time in scc...i even know in which tracks and corners it occurs...:indiff: ) i've experienced those frame rates issues i always heard complain about but never had on or offline-
It was on the last right and off camber corner in B.H Indy and i went off track and lost lead in consequence 🤬 so i feel you Manny i really do...
I Don't think there is a HDMI cable issue involved since mine connects the ps3 directly into the full hd 1080p LCD...

Ring as first race is going to be smooth, slow cars and two laps. No drama here, i have been racing Ring more times than any other track. Even if we would use Zonda's it would still be OK. Last race as i remember in Audi's were super smooth.

Problems might appear in SPA. I've never liked this track, and never really looked closer to Carrera GT. So expect not so smooth run, but who knows, it would be again good idea to test this track with Carrera GT with more then 4 players. Last time we used personal cars 14 rated, and there was video frame rate problems.

Third race ...... well i even don't know where it would be :sly: I didn't bother to go on Brands Hatch Indy (just checked on first site of this thread :)) With my 4 rating car, still don't have any idea what car should i use. I will sort this out later, now I'm focusing on Ring and Spa.

Anyway slowdowns issues is more a game fault and not your ps3~tv connection.

ps. good news, Ferrari's probably will appear on ps3, rumored said that it would be February 16th

Yes, and that's exactly my point when I mentioned going to three lobbies. There is nothing more frustrating in this game than having a good car, knowing the track well, yet not being able to drive it properly because of slowdowns. :banghead:

3 lobbies would split up all the top drivers but at the same time this would be better for the less experienced to get a better start as there would be less for them to deal with.

I have done a few things that seem to make the online play better for me

not even connecting my headset to the ps3
striped all car of there vinyls
sold any cars i dont use
detuned and de upgraded the bonus cars

and now i lost my save game i am going to do as lest amount of races in career mode as i can as all my problems seemed to have started since i completed the game.

The way i see it the less DATA there is for the PS3 to process online the better.

I still have the same problems with frame rate in the usual place like the last 3corners of leguna seca i always get slow down that destroys my lead on the person behind so frustrating, but i have not had any new frame rate problems up to now and you know your selves how bad my connection was.

i hope the HDMI lead is not a factor in this as with out an HDMI cable i find the colours on the screen crap and before long i fond my self missing corners because i couldn't see them.

👎 And how this helps? Slower players would never stand a chance, from lap to lap the gap between players would increase. I truly don't remember when group A or B was that strong, just look at the line up. And creating third lobby for me at least create confusion with scoring points.

I agree. I think that's really the heart of the matter. They pushed the processing capability of the PS3 to the absolute limit with this game, which means that anyone whose PS3 doesn't quite perform up to par sees these framerate problems.

I'm sure they could clean up the code to make it run better for everyone, but there's no new money in that, so they don't bother. It's the same reason they don't answer legitimate technical questions on their support website. They just ignore questions altogether. It's really 🤬 frustrating.

Would you feel differently about three lobbies if you had slowdowns on every track?

No!

1 out of 3 races for me is acceptable but 2 out of 3 definitely not. I had problems on just one track, but i know that game might behave different for some players. For example you don't have any problems with Donington Race but i do. So game behave different, and for that reason we can't really say what the hell is going on :grumpy:

I have never had a problem with any of my races but i dont think it is fair on those that do, if three lobbys will cure the problem for those with problems then lets give it a try?

Besides we may have to go to three lobbys anyway with new people joining all the time.

I think maybe you are not understanding my question... because I am definately not understanding your answer.

What I am saying is: On every track when there are 7 or more cars, I get framerate problems.

What I asked you was: If you had framerate problems on every track when there are 7 or more cars, would you want to go to smaller lobbies so the races would run correctly?

Because i know if i was newbie i would rather be racing 4 or 5 players than 7+ players of course once i was better i would want a full grid.

plus like stevo says with new people joining all the time its a case of when we make a 3rd lobby not if, simple fact of the matter is we have any more players in one lobby and its going to be a train wreak week in week out untill people get so stressed with the hole thing they give up and stop playing.

It might be worth seeing if there is a common build/batch #/date/firmware for the PS3s having problems.

As i remember correctly suggestion for Third lobby was given in the middle of 1st season but then we choose to race Manufacture cars more often then Mixed Races. As someone point out Mixed races could cause problems because of the Tunning and personal Livery. So the solution back then was to race more Manufactured cars but didn't work that well.

My answer is..... oh i don't have to say it really :) We play Shift Man, after second patch this game cause problems for every one. I'm at the same page as you are. If there is more then 6 players, then no matter the track and cars, this game turns into turtle racing.

I understand that Shift after receiving Ferrari's and delayed GT5 would be quite catchy game, and it would attract more new players. It looks like we may play Shift for many months, or maybe who knows. Polyphony is filled with idiots and there is no real answer for how long we may continue good fun with Shift until GT will kill it definitely.

But still, three lobbies with 5 players is not bad idea, although it is complicated.

this is only a thought but would it be worth having a time trial race of the 3 races to deciide who goes in what lobby if the amount of lobbys is increased or is this a stupid thought ?
