At first glance there doesn't seem to be much in it, but the more you look the more you see the sharper detail and more subtle lighting in GT5. The headlights in the lambo at the end being a good example of where GT models the details, but NFS just uses textures. Having said that, the more subtle lighting of GT5 goes against it when it comes to the interior views - they are far too dark. That's my only gripe with GT5P - the dark interiors.

Wow, tracks in Shift look amazing on the PC. The resolution and detail is just gorgeous.

Cars are kind of a mixed bag... GT really seems to be lacking sharpness in the early pics.. But the later press release shots it looks better.

Over i think i would say NFS looks better :O

Thanks for the comparison :)

But people, keep in mind some of them are ingame, but others are GT5 bullshots (like the R8, Lamborghini or 370Z).

No disrespect to KY & his team, i just hope that GT5 doesn't become a game of mainly pretty graphics, shoddy sound files, basic physics engine like GT5P.The PS3 can manage more than that ( my gut feeling anyway ).I hope the tyre physics work well with the tarmac & if improvements, can be made to different textures improve it.The green mountains at Eiger Nordwand, aren't half as good to look at as the mountains in the horizon & the snowy mountains near the track.Trackside details i guess could be improved ( would be beneficial in photo mode ).Hopefully the new lighting system has made the shadows perfect. With the weather effects, i hope we get the unexpected variety.Sorry back on topic.

P.s. if they can fix the screen tearing & the notable frame rate problem & maybe PD could send us graphical firmware improvements updates, i guess that would make it perfect. Also i hope trackside details can be destroyed & made a mess of ( small grass, dandelions etc ).Would be nice to make plumes of tyre smoke ( colour depends on the tyre, surface & condition of both ), from muscle cars during the rubber laying process.

Shift is far from the truth :yuck: Just goes to show the poor quality work EA have done again. They have the power of the PC on their side and have failed miserably.

But I do wish one day we get GT for PC. Cause I feel Kaz would really like to max out the true potential of Polyphony's magicians. The PS3 is the only thing left thats holding them back, that and Sony maybe.

I've just noticed that one of my pet hates with Prologue appears to have been fixed and changed for GT5. Graphics in the rear view mirrors. In Prologue the mirrors just look so empty and void of any detail. Judging by the Cockpit view of the Nissan 350z (not sure if that's right) above, the interior rear view mirror is packed full of detail, both of other cars and the environment behind. Looks awesome. Thank you PD.

^^^ That is a bullshot photo there J99roberts, also i think speedometer needs re calibrating. In that mirror you should see the rear window & bits of the interior.

Hmm. Hardly a fair comparison.

GT5P shots are all poor, upscaled shots with very heavy compression.

NFS:S shots all appear to be direct-feed screen grabs and well scaled.

Uh the GTR is in 4th gear, at 7,000rpm approaching 190 km/h the needle almost off the speedometer, nah that's wrong.Unless there is just four gears, then i guess that is how it drives.

Thats only like 118mph and from what Ive read 4th peaks at 126mph at 7000RPM

With the exception of the Lambo picture Shift looks so much sharper and detailed than GT and that's very likely a pre-rendered shot. Hope I'm wrong though and this is actually how GT5 will look. 👍

Shift wins (as it should on a PC for pete's sake) on all but the Audi engine shot... beautifully done by Polyphony... fantastic work overall PD!

These are definitely PC screens as I know the PS3 version does not look that crisp. Turn the AA to 4x and see how it looks.

Did anyone see that the 370Z(not sure) on GT it's right hand drive and on Shift it's left hand drive? I find that funny.

Hard to tell because there is a mix of bull shots and real time shots. Not to mention the quality from shot to shot is jumpy

But what I can tell is that GT5 pays alot more attention to detail. The headlights usually had more polygons and detail and they got the tint on the cars correct while the Shift cars had no tint at all.

On alot of the Shift screenshots there is some very noticeable jaggies. The lightning in GT5P appears to be superior

No way to make a definitive judgement off these screen shots, I would have to see alot more, including how the graphics look when the camera is not zoomed in on a car, how detailed the interior of the cars are, and how well does Shift replicate the appearance of different textures.

Amusingly - the Audi engine shot - is flipped... look at the writing.

This is a useless comparison, although the static images from Shift looks great, its gameplay feels so rough and jagged with its 30fps that I sold mine for half price on a forum 3 hours after I bought it from a local game shop.

In terms of handling, Shift feels so shallow that anyone who drives a real vehicle can tell that it's ********.
Turn in too fast? SKIDD

It's just not comparable to GT... (not trying to sound like a fanboy or anything)

Glass parts and lighting is on GT's side, I would even say that simulation too. But track graphics and detail, sounds and many other aspects are worse, poor NFS is getting the king down from the throne!

Agree!

Ive played Shift alot and i can honestly say the graphics are nothing compared to GT5P... even if they look good in screenshots its bad when your playing... GT5P is amazing always.
