Can you believe the NHL Winter Classic turned 10 years old this season? Yesterday's game at Citi Field in Flushing, NY, USA was under cold sunshine and 20°F temperatures. It was the only game on New Year's Day as the New York Rangers and the Buffalo Sabres went at it. It was the Rangers who won in Overtime yesterday 3-2.

Now let's talk about tonight. We got 12 games on the card for tonight as many of the other teams will make their 2018 debut of the 2017-2018 NHL season. I read on Yahoo! Sports that tonight marks the season debut of Minnesota's Zach Parise (be proud, PinkKitty13) and Nashville's Ryan Ellis. The Wild will host the Florida Panthers, and the Nashville Predators will be at the Vegas Golden Knights. If you're looking for games tonight, Yahoo! Sports will be showing the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Go enjoy some hockey tonight. And, uh... please feel free to comment here on hockey if you like.

Welcome to the first Wednesday of 2018! If you want to see some hockey tonight, you're in luck with these two games set to play:

* OTT Senators at DET Red Wings
* CHI Blackhawks at NYR Rangers (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)

So three of the NHL's Original Six will be in action tonight. One match in Hockeytown, the other under the bright lights of New York City. The match in NYC is all Original Six. Go enjoy some NHL action tonight!

Quick takes on last night's matches...

* It was 5-2 in New York City as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the New York Rangers. This Original Six match saw the boys from Chi-Town get it done at the Rangers.

* The other game on the night was the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Ottawa Senators. Hockeytown- relax. Your boys did good on home ice. They won in Overtime against the Senators 2-1.

That's all for this post. The season continues...

The NHL really has to look at the rules for blocking shots. Just saw someone go down in the Wings game because of trying to block Frk's shot. It's only a matter of time before someone loses their career because of getting seriously injured blocking a shot in today's NHL with how fast people shoot these days.

The 2017-2018 NHL All-Star Game takes place in Tampa Bay, FL, USA on the weekend of January 27 and 28. So be sure to get your favorite players to play in the All-Star festivities later this month.

Tonight, though, it's Wednesday. So you know what that means- Wednesday Night Rivalry! There are only two games on tonight. This is the schedule for this Wednesday night:

* OTT Senators at TOR Maple Leafs
* MIN Wild at CHI Blackhawks

Province pride in Canada, and some good old Midwestern hockey Stateside. Toronto and Chicago are the only two Original Six teams playing tonight. Now for some other observations of these four teams...

* Of these four teams, Ottawa is the one on of these four teams with a losing record (OTT is 14-18-9 heading into tonight's match).

* Current standings... Ottawa is next-to-last (7th) in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Toronto is 3rd in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. Minnesota is next-to-last (6th) in the Central Division of the Western Conference. Chicago is 5th in the Central Division of the Western Conference.

* OTT and TOR have each lost one game recently. Minnesota comes into tonight with back-to-back losses. Chicago has won two straight as they host the Minnesota Wild.

And there you go. Enjoy some hockey tonight.

JUST WRAPPED UP...

The Minnesota Wild ended their four-game road losing streak with a 2-1 victory at Chicago. Two unanswered goals by the Wild helped them to win this game.

The other game ended with a 4-3 victory as the Ottawa Senators won at the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Congratulations to tonight's winners, and also to those who made the 2017-2018 NHL All-Star Game.

RECENTLY WRAPPED UP...

What got into Detroit today? They were in an Original Six matchup as they paid a visit to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 4-0. DET goalie Petr Mrazek picked up his 12th career shutout and 2nd this season.

Congratulations to all other winners today/tonight up to and beyond the time of this post.

This Wednesday night is the penultimate Wednesday night before the All-Star Break. I'm sorry I am late with this post. Here are tonight's games:

* MON Canadiens at BOS Bruins (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* PIT Penguins at ANA Ducks

Enjoy the action tonight, hockey fans!

Tonight, we got the Vegas Golden Knights at the Tampa Bay Lightning. Best in the Western Conference meets the best in the Eastern Conference. You can probably imagine TB on top in the East. However, who would have thought Vegas would be so baller this season? These mark a 10-game Thursday night tonight.

Keep enjoying the action, and please... don't forget to keep this thread going with your own NHL chatter.

Later this week will be All-Star Weekend. For now, there are five games today. Let me touch up on some games played back on yesterday...

* 5-2 was the score in St. Paul, MN, USA as the Minnesota Wild tamed the Tampa Bay Lightning.

* The team formerly known as the Minnesota North Stars, the Dallas Stars, did REAL good by winning 7-1 at the Buffalo Sabres.

* It was another sad night in Hockeytown at the Detroit Red Wings failed against the Carolina Hurricanes. 3-1 was the score.

* Winnipeg needed a Shootout to ice the Calgary Flames 2-1 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

* The New York Rangers were caught in an Avalanche as Colorado won at home 3-1.

* How did the other New York City team do? The boys looking to return to Long Island with a new arena defeated the Chicago Blackhawks by a football score of 7-3 in Chicago.

* Wins have been tough to come by for the Arizona Coyotes. Not last night, though, as the Desert Dogs took down kolio's St. Louis Blues 5-2 in St. Louis.

* The Nashville Predators tamed the Florida Panthers 4-3 in Nashville.

* The Edmonton Oilers won at home 5-2 over the visiting Vancouver Canucks.

Congratulations to all other winners from yesterday's games.

Today's five games:

* PHI Flyers at WAS Capitals
* VGK Golden Knights at CAR Hurricanes
* VAN Canucks at WPG Jets
* SJ Sharks at ANA Ducks
* NYR Rangers at LA Kings

Enjoy the latest round of hockey action! Good luck to all of your favorite teams.

RECENTLY WRAPPED UP...

Among tonight's games, it was another sad night in Hockeytown as the Detroit Red Wings lost 3-2 in Overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers. Tough season for Detroit in their new house. This game was televised on NBCSN.

Congratulations to all other winners from Tuesday night's games.

This is the final Wednesday Night Rivalry before NHL All-Star weekend. With the All-Star festivities to be held in Tampa Bay this weekend, here is what your Wednesday looks like this time around:

* TOR Maple Leafs at CHI Blackhawks (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* LA Kings at CGY Flames

So get ready for an Original Six match if you have NBCSN.

Enjoy this final Wednesday Night Rivalry before NHL All-Star Weekend.

Time to take a little break from pursuing Lord Stanley's Cup. Today, it is the NHL All-Star Game. We got some of the finest stars in the NHL ready to play each other in a fine All-Star Game. The game will be played in Tampa Bay, FL, USA.

Enjoy the game if you'll be watching!

Heads up!

The NHL is back in business after the All-Star Weekend. NBCSN is showing the Philadelphia Flyers at the Washington Capitals. Enjoy hockey on this final day of January 2018 and the final Wednesday of January 2018!

The month of February is upon us. Let's see how all of the 31 NHL teams are doing so far...

--- EASTERN CONFERENCE ---
ATLANTIC: Tampa Bay (34-13-3, 71 pts.), BOS (29-11-8, 66 pts.), TOR (29-28-5), DET (20-21-8, 63 pts.), FLA (20-22-6, 46 pts.), MON (20-24-6, 46 pts.), OTT (15-24-9, 39 pts.), BUF (14-27-9, 37 pts.)

METROPOLITAN: Washington (30-15-5, 65 pts.), PIT (28-21-3, 59 pts.), NJ (25-16-8, 58 pts.), CBJ (27-19-4, 58 pts.), PHI (24-18-8; 56 pts.), NYR (25-20-5, 55), NYI (25-22-5, 55 pts.), CAR (23-19-8, 54 pts.)

EAST WILD CARD: Columbus and Philadelphia

--- WESTERN CONFERENCE ---
CENTRAL: Winnipeg (30-13-8, 68 pts.), NSH (29-12-7, 65 pts.), STL (31-18-3, 65 pts.), DAL (28-19-4, 60 pts.), MIN (27-28-4, 59 pts.) COL (27-18-4, 58 pts.), CHI (24-19-7, 55 pts.)

PACIFIC: Vegas (33-12-4, 70 pts.), SJ (26-16-8, 60 pts.), LA (27-18-5, 59 pts.), ANA (25-17-9, 59 pts.), CGY (25-17-8, 58 pts.), EDM (22-24-3, 47 pts.), VAN (20-24-6, 46 pts.), ARI (12-29-9, 33 pts.)

WEST WILD CARD: Dallas and Minnesota

Tonight, the Vegas Golden Knights are at the Winnipeg Jets among tonight's 12-game schedule. If Vegas wins tonight, they will break the record for most wins by an expansion team in NHL history. VGK is on a back-to-back. They are at Winnipeg tonight, followed by at Minnesota tomorrow night. It would be sweet if Vegas could win this back-to-back.

February is also "Hockey is For Everyone" Month. It is always cool to make hockey accessible to as many folks as possible. I think I've seen hockey players from China and India as examples.

Okay... enjoy tonight's games and this month's games!

Neither did a lot of us, AnthonyD1993. The Vegas franchise is basically redefining what an "expansion" team should be. You would normally think a team that comes into a league brand-new would stumble due to a lack of experience. Heck, the Golden Knights seem like a veteran team. Now it would REALLY be crazy if Vegas makes the Stanley Cup Playoffs and end up becoming champions. Could you imagine that? No matter what happens to Vegas this season, I'm proud for them.

RECENTLY WRAPPED UP...

The Minneapolis-St. Paul area may be all about Super Bowl LII this weekend (what's a Super Bowl?), but tonight was all about Wild hockey. The Minnesota Wild took down the red hot Vegas Golden Knights 5-2. Vegas was on a back-to-back when they took down the Winnipeg Jets in Winnipeg. The Wild have a Wild Card spot so far in the West. They helped their cause a bit winning at home against the Vegas Golden Knights. Minnesota never trailed.

Congratulations to all other winners from tonight's games, including the Detroit Red Wings downing the Carolina Hurricanes on the road.

Hey, hockey fans! There are 11 games on for tonight. Yahoo! Sports will show Calgary at Chicago online. We got an Original Six match tonight in Hockeytown as the Boston Bruins set it off at the Detroit Red Wings. A little GTPlanet inner-forum rivalry is tonight as we have the Minnesota Wild (PinkKitty13 and Northstar) playing at kolio's St. Louis Blues. Philadelphia may still be celebrating their Super Bowl LII triumph, but their hometown hockey team will be playing at the Carolina Hurricanes.

No matter what game(s) you will follow tonight, enjoy tonight's games.

Sad that football is done? Cheer up- because there's hard hitting still... in hockey! Tonight's three games should help give you plenty of action:

* NSH Predators at TOR Maple Leafs
* BOS Bruins at NYR Rangers (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* EDM Oilers at LA Kings

So tonight's NBCSN game will be an Original Six match. Boston had to deal with another Original Six team, Detroit, last night. Now the Boston boys will have to deal with the New York Rangers.

Enjoy tonight's action!

The NHL will return to Seattle... kind of! A group in Seattle has officially filed for NHL Expansion earlier today. I think it would be great to see the NHL return to Seattle. Personally, I'd like to see both the NHL and NBA return to Seattle.

A few scores from tonight...

* The Detroit Red Wings did good at home 2-1 over the Anaheim Ducks.

* Also doing good at home were the Minnesota Wild, 3-2 winners against the visiting New York Rangers.

* The New York Rangers failed, so how did the other New York City team do? Well, the Islanders lost 4-1 at home to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

* Regulation solved nothing in Nashville, so the Predators of "Smashville" won 4-3 in Overtime against the visiting St. Louis Blues.

* New Jersey needed a Shootout to ground the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 in Philadelphia.

* The two-time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins won 6-3 against the Ottawa Senators.

* Overtime was needed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; as the Jets took down the Washington Capitals 4-3.

Congratulations to all other winners up to and beyond the time of this post.

Happy Valentine's Day, GTPlaneteers! Because nothing says love quite like... ramming somebody into the boards and smearing their faces on the glass. And look- it's Wednesday Night Rivalry as well! They call it the "night you love to hate." So let the love flow on this extra special Wednesday Night Rivalry. If you have nothing to do or don't plan on dating, stay at home and enjoy these three matches tonight:

* CBJ Blue Jackets at TOR Maple Leafs
* MON Canadiens at COL Avalanche
* FLA Panthers at VAN Canucks

Actually, NBCSN won't be showing any NHL action tonight. But still- enjoy some great hockey tonight. Let the love flow! ...or not...

If you're looking for a game today or tonight, NBC will show the Philadelphia Flyers at the New York Rangers. It's the NHL Game of the Week on NBC today.

By the way, you can't help but be impressed with the Vegas Golden Knights. This is an *expansion team* that's winning games like they're seasoned veterans! Vegas won last night at home 6-3 against the Anaheim Ducks.

I'm amazed that the Red Wings actually won a game when I was watching on TV. They've lost pretty much every game I've tuned into this season.

Tonight is the penultimate week of NHL hockey for February 2018. On this night, prepare yourselves for this lineup of games tonight:

* OTT Senators at CHI Blackhawks
* DAL Stars at ANA Ducks
* CGY Flames at VGK Golden Knights

No NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry this time around. However, you do still get to see some quality NHL action if ithat is what you crave.

Outside of this, I read that the Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly interested in G Petr Mrazek of the Detroit Red Wings. PHI is currently 3rd in the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference, good for a current playoff spot. Detroit, meanwhile, is 5th in the Atlantic division and out of a playoff berth so far.

Enjoy this night of hockey.

News and progress have been slow on GTPlanet with the NHL. However recently, the NHL Trade Deadline passed. So I'm sure teams will probably have made all the trades they needed to make as the season winds down.

Enjoy tonight's games! Good luck to all of your favorite teams.

This is the final Wednesday of February 2018! We got five games on tonight, and here are the five in question:

* NYI Islanders at MON Canadiens
* BUF Sabres at TB Lightning
* DET Red Wings at STL Blues (NBCSN Wednesday Night Rivalry)
* CGY Flames at COL Avalanche
* NYR Rangers at VAN Canucks

So this week's Wednesday Nighr Rivalry is all about good old Midwestern hockey when the boys from Hockeytown pays a visit to the St. Louis Blues. St. Louis is trying to bounce back after taking a thrashing at PinkKitty13 and Northstar's Minnesota Wild last night. Both DET and STL are in 5th Place in their respective divisions. Three of the NHL's Original Six are in action tonight (MON, DET, and NYR). This will be a pretty busy Wednesday night in the NHL.

Enjoy some hockey tonight.

We are closing in on the end of the regular season. Some teams will have proven themselves to play for Lord Stanley's beautiful trophy; some others will have to settle for next season. Here is a standings update for you all as we enter March...

[UPDATE] I completely forgot Tampa Bay! My apologies.
