Night time is too dark, lights have flat batteries...game is too dark in general

Have you ever tried driving 150 mph at night?

I've driven 60 on dark country roads with my high beams on, with nice headlights, and it's pretty hard to see. At 150 you outdrive your lights pretty darn easily.

I think it's realistic for the lights that these cars have, but we need to be able to upgrade the lights to make it easier to drive at speed in the dark.

I think you need your cars lights checking, my car lights up the whole road ahead for a very long way and it lights up the sides of the road and the trees, no tree is tall enough to not get fully lit up. Nothing escapes my lights.
In GT5 there are basically broken lights, i believe this is down to the PS3 not being able to cope with the processing required.

The complete lack of light still applies when your stationary in GT5, there is no illumination.

And they have equalised the brightness and burn out difference between cockpit view and the other ones, but the snow is still going white in cockpit view, and on SS5 interior view is still darker than bumper.

They need to dial down the EV inside the car on snow tracks so the snow doesn't burn out to total white. Right now you need to change EV to -1.0!

I figured the problem of the headlights is this -

The high beams do not add to the effect of the regular lights.
You either get one of the other....
 
Has anyone tried the snow rally in the special events; the one in Alaska? Yeah, it’s not too dark there. Actually, it’s so bright, I couldn’t see where I was going: just pure white. I relied entirely on a few visible blue barriers, the map, and the copilot. It was quite exciting, really (driving blind).

Nothing to do with the TV, the exposure of GT5's lighting engine is all wrong. It turns the snow all white when inside the cockpit. You have to set EV to -1.0 to get it to look the same as when your using bumper cam!

I drive at night in germany on country roads and the autobahn where i drive 140-155mph+ at night and the xenon on my BMW 135i light waaaay further then in GT5, this needs fixing ASAP.
I can see clearly at night at high speed with high beams in real life, but in GT5 i can't see 5meters infront. Realism problem.
 
i think it was completely set this way on purpose (about the lights) :




Night racing is all about close range road and apex vision, not giving mommy a ride at 2am in the forrest. Yeah this is a racing game

Stop the car in GT5, does it look as bright and as well lit as it is in real life? I say no, case closed.

If it can't match reality when stationary, then there is no hope when your moving

It's actually a concept I've heard in the motorcycling community as well.

More like, by the time your lamps illuminate the object in question and you see it, you're already dang near past it.

Not so much flux-capacitor stuff, though.

Thats exactly what i think. I was in my van the other night and switched from dipped to high beam and the dipped stays on aswell as the high beam.Thought to myself thats what gt5 is missing in the night racing!!
 
I agree with CoolColJ and others. The game is too dark. Numerous posts with video, capped, live feed and picture evidence have been posted to confirm this, whereas the other side only has anecdotal evidence (I raced at night and it's fine, I win.) or video posted from a cockpit which has very little to do with the topic at all.

But the best part of this thread are the posters who either can't read, can't comprehend, or are just ****ing stupid to continue to quote the 'outdriving your headlights' comment and respond with a snarky speed of light comment.

I would understand if the post was made on page 3, and by page 16 hasn't been explained. But the 'outdriving your headlights' comment is explained every two pages! And still there are the morons who post their speed of light comment (and worse still the people who register -just- to post their speed of light comment) even when the original meaning is explained on the same page as their post.

I just find it highly comical that not only do they not read the thread, they don't even read the last page of the thread or one page back.

Thanks for my morning laugh, though. Keep up the good work. Idiots.
 
Just a little bit. There's a ton of snow on the east coast of the States at the moment. Not doing much for my mood, I'm afraid. But my point still remains, even if I could have been less Incredible Hulk about it.

Being from AK, that's basically how it is when the whole area is covered in snow and it's sunny. Snowblindness kicks in almost instantly. They didn't over-expose the snow. It's SUPPOSED to nearly blind you when it's sunny.

EDIT: I read a few posts down. If it's completely whitewashing in interior view then something's wrong. It should be bright, but not whitewashed.

i think the headlights are bright enough they just aim down which defeats the purpose, cuz on nurburgring at night you lights light up the forest pretty good but if going up or down hill they all of a sudden stop working like they are pointed at the ground 2 feet in front of you

Well in this video there is way more light than in GT5. Bare in mind your eyes have better dynamic range than cameras. That's another issue with GT5's lighting, terrible dynamic range.

Please also note in this video.

1) The reflective paint at the side of the road is clearly visible.
2) The tail lights on the cars actually work !
3) The headlights illuminate the road ahead.
4) The headlights of other cars also illuminate the road.
5) There is no giant blinding halo effect from overhead lights.

PS3 games are dark in general. It's an oddity I have witnessed between 360 games and PS3 games. It does not bother me, but I get your point.

I have also noticed this. For example, when I play GTA IV on PS3 compared to playing it on 360, I have to see/focus a bit more. But nonetheless, PD made the darkness of GT5 well programmed.
 
I'm beginning to suspect that PD lacks a "living room" test environment. A well lit room with a still too damn good to replace CRT television, a 40 year old Dad and a couple of 8 year old kids, with normal controllers.

Who would of pointed out the obvious such as :
  • Why is it everything so dark?
  • Why are the font's unreadable even after you zoom in?
  • Why does that concrete pillar lack basic reflective safety markings?
  • Where are the guide post with reflectors? The Roads and Traffic Authority better get their but into gear, especially if people are racing here at night!

Can't say I've raced at night. But from a RTA point of view both the city and country roads at night are highly unrealistic in their reflective illumination.
 
Try racing at the Nurburgring 24h at night. In a kart. In the rain. With no aids.

Might just wanna press the pause button and let the autopilot take it around! (Of course when you're doing it online only)
