Nissan Turns Over a New Leaf, Adds Nismo Power (Sort Of)

Strange, this could have been a neat opportunity to offer a Nismo version of the Leaf that actually had (minor)sporting credentials. Having a Nismo version of the Leaf with zero performance upgrades seems positively daft.

Potential to be a good looking electric hot hatch was there, or at least warm hatch. Instead its just an electric hatch. Kind of a waste there.

Um....

The sports-Leaf has a new bodykit (with traditional red flashes) that Nismo reckons will reduce lift at speed without harming the all-important drag coefficient. Yes, it has a rear diffuser.

Nismo has also worked on the suspension and throttle response. There’s no specifics on what goes into the “sport-tuned suspension”, but it does look like this Leaf sits lower than others. A “custom-tuned computer” gives instant acceleration at any road speed, according to the press release, and Nismo also swaps out the low resistance tires for higher-grade rubber.

Not any huge changes, but I’m sure they’ll make some improvement over the standard Leaf.

This is a very good looking electric car. It looks normal, sporty and will attrack a younger crowd eventhough the preformance in a straight line is still the same.
A good selling Leaf - first generation - was, I believe the best selling electric car. Now, with a modern, normal and sporty look it will sell, hopefully, even more and is probably going to give a positive sign to other car makers that there is a market for electric cars.
