NissanskylineN1's Build - Case Mod Finished..for now

If it's DOA, newegg usually takes it back and gives you a new one

At least with me, I had no problems when I tried to return DOA items.

The fixation on overclocking when it seems you aren't too aware of what does what is kind of amusing.

Relax, stop stressing about OC this and OC that, just build the damn system. I've ordered thousands of dollars of stuff from NewEgg over the past years and never had a problem.

As for case fans... really not needed if you do smooth cable routing and don't try to overclock everything (which really, the CPU cooler is more important for that). I have a single case fan (Rosewill) that came with my case years ago and it is fine.

The whole approach in here feels like you want those Brembo brakes for your car that is on all seasons.

Oh, and you can install Windows without an optical drive via USB and a thumb drive. That is how I've done it a few times for systems like my netbook and when I am just too lazy too hook up an optical drive.

Of course the speed can be adjusted to reduce the noise created by the fans such as this fan controller(You can hook it up to the motherboard and control it with SpeedFan or control the fans manually with the device) or this fan controller(I have one and pretty sweet to use. As many reviews state the LED's are bright.). He already went and ordered the fans. I don't think it's worth the shipping to send them back and he's going to save more if he just gets a fan controller(could find these cheap locally if he knows places).

Adjusting the speed of them will bring the CFM down though. Yes it brings the noise down, but at the cost of less cooling. If he had looked a little bit harder for something like the fan I posted. He wouldn't need to get a fan controller, as it already has a fanspeed knob on it..

What he bought, and what you're suggesting, defeats the purpose of getting such a high flow fan.

That is to be expected for. I recommended a fan controller because he already ordered the fans. Yes he could of took an extra 5 minutes to determine what he wants but you can't change the past. The money has been spent and you can't change that. If he bought the fans locally then he can get store credit for them and find something better for the price. Don't forget he has a budget of a $35 gift card. You can't exactly get four fans of the ones you linked to for $35.

I actually went to TD and bought them at the store. They didn't have anything quieter at a decent price. There was a Coolermaster one, but the DBA was the same and had less CFM. I tried the Thermalltake ones out, and they're actually REALLY quiet, ESPECIALLY compared to my current PC, I don't think I'll need to go quieter since my PC will be under my desk. I don't know why you guys think its loud. You guys clearly haven't heard a loud PC. If I need them quieter, I'll just lubricate them. :P

If I can hear them across the house, they're loud. I haven't used those, so I wouldn't know if they fit the criteria. How did you try them out? Something tells me they weren't going full blast. I have used these and they could be heard almost at the end of the house.

I have two case fans now, one at 900RPM and one at 1100RPM. The computer is almost completely silent stepping outside of my room. I also have a volt-modded xbox360. My preference is to not go louder than necessary.

I connected via Molex 4 pin. That's max speed. I could barely hear them over the CPU fan. Its a whisper and can be only heard as far as about 5m away. At 2100 RPM (connected via 3 pin) they're pretty much un-noticable. What I'm gonna do is that the fan included with the case wil be connected via molex, and the other 120mm one I bought will be molex. The second non-led fan will be connected to 3 pin (I'm gonna have 3 fans in total.)

The three pin connector is still 12 volts or 5 volts depending on what the fan takes. There is also no fan control for the motherboard with three pin fans. You need the four pin fan connector as shown in that link to control fan speed from the motherboard(It's what fan controllers do too of course).

The case has arrived. The PSU and CPU are coming tommorow since the first mailman took my note on the door and made the second mailman leave a "we missed you" slip.

I came home and went into the Garage and found the box. I took it inside and grabbed the "we missed you slip" on the way.

Here it is in its box:

Here it is straight out of the box:

Here it is with the LED fan moved to the front:

REVIEW

Pros:
- Sturdy and good sheet metal
- Nice paint quality
- Front panel is almost indestructible
- Looks badass
- The front panel USB and Audio port are convenient
- PSU fan filter

Cons:
- A 120mm fan does NOT fit in the front properly, you need to do some mods
- The shiny black plastic leaves fingermarks
- The fans (and this applies to EVERY Thermaltake fan ever made) do NOT have the right size holes
- The fans needed a Drill for installation due to small hole size.
- Flimsy drive locks

I have installed quite a few Thermaltake fans, and I've yet to see the problem you encountered. Normally you just screw them in..

Yeah you just thread the screw holes with the screw. No problems really. Just takes some good ol' hand and screwdriver torque.

So I look in my garage today and Awesomeness appears. Hello!

I have encountered one problem and that is that my internet adaptor only supports 32 bit OS... and only Winblows XP. I'll need to get a new one.

I have installed it and the WEI are all above 7 except for the HDD, a mere 5.8

Yeah, unless you have a ssd, hdd score it's usually the lowest.
32bit OS = only 3gb of ram :(

My CPU was running at around 85 degrees centigrade while running prime 95. I went and replaced the thermal paste with some matrix paste and even without it breaking in, I already saw a 3 degree difference.

Not that expensive

It costs more than his graphics card.

If it was hot inside your house those temperatures are probably fine. Otherwise, I would guess that there is too much paste or the contact with the heatsink is not optimal.

85C is hot, but you are running on a stock cooler.

I would recommend you get an after market cooler.

This look quite nice and it is not that expensive.

85* is fine, especially on the stock cooler.

This would be better for his use. NS1, Make sure your case has enough room for this heatsink. It's a big one.

This is better and then even more so with another fan added for push/pull.

Oh my, now suggesting $130 cooler setups for what is an acceptable operating range. In all honesty, given the complete lack of experience in this thread, I'd be willing to bet he has too much thermal compound on the damn thing.

I never suggested a $130 cooler. Plus he's what you'd call a "Newb". He can't exactly do everything right on his first computer.

This whole thread is what I'd call "newb" Everything suggested in here has been the wrong thing for the job. I could easily suggest better builds for him without even trying. Although it's far too late for that.

I'm going to have to go with Cody on this, thermal paste is probably caked on.

My bad, wrong link.

And honestly, I often see your suggestions as novice suggestions. It is either some part that is so over the top or something where you save 2 dollars buying some completely no name part.

Well? Tell me. What parts are too much or completely no name? Brand name is nice but would you not get the same performance out of a similar highly rated no name product?
