no 1/4 mile track?

I couldn't care less about drag strips. It only shows 1% of a cars potential.
"Hey look at me! I can give my car the beans in a straight line!" :dopey:

Drag racing is a very fun thing to do in RL. Here in the UK one of the annual BMW shows I go to we get unlimited use of the strip at Santapod. I got a 15.3 out of my 26 year old e30 Alpina :D. So I see why it's in demand to get in the game.

why? all you want to do is drive a straight line? Do you like nascar to? another left turn

It seems like every time I see you post it's to bash Americans, American cars, NASCAR, or drag racing.

There are ways to disagree and converse without being insulting.

First of all im disappointed that there's no 1/4 mile track in GT5. 1/4 Mile is pretty much the standard track for all racing, and it's 1/4 mile time is a basic and popular insight into the cars ability.

You can use Special Stage Route 7 to see the car's top speed.

1/4 Mile has nothing to do with Top Speed If your car hits top speed in 1/4 of a mile, it must be a very small track or your gears are wrong. 1/4 Mile is more about Power, Traction and Acceleration.

👍 agreed !!

and IMHO, "la Sarthe - no chicane" is probably the best track to achieve top speed.

It's a Grand Touring game. Not drag racing.

It's a racing game in general, and there are different types of racing, drag, rally, circuit, nascar...

I wish it had a 1/4 mile track as well, that would be a lot of fun to work on tunes for a drag strip, it's very exciting.

And it's not just about driving your car in a straight line, there is a lot more to it than that. The hole shot, controlling your wheel spin, getting the most out of each gear.

Most of the people who bash it are just inexperienced with it.. It's a great style of racing.

I tried it a few times in Forza and it's definitely not just "mash the go pedal", the suspension and gear tuning along with all the throttle modulation, etc is quite tricky. I was terrible at it. :)

Stop light drag racing isn't the same as building a car for the 1/4 mile.
All that said, I find it pretty boring personally, but it would be a worthwhile addition to the game.

I know what drag racing is. I've been to plenty of them. And do street racing from time to time. ( only if a mustang thinks they have something for my goat) It's just not the kind of racing that the GT series stands for. That's like saying the old ihra ps2 game should have touring cars. Because it's a racing game. I'm not bashing drag racing. This just isn't the game for it.

Why does GT have drifting then? Or rally? Nascar? F1? A Prius? A lot of GT5 is not "Grand Touring" racing. It doesn't even have FIA GT.

Because those disciplines require more "driving" not just pedaling the gas pedal.

Explain how taking a Fiat 500 or a Honda Insight around Indy takes more skill than tuning a car to perform better in a 1/4 mile.

Just at a guess, which has more "enthusiasts" drag racing, or honda insight racing?

edit: My point is that most of GT5 doesn't belong in a "grand touring game" or arguably a racing game, or looking the other way, a driving game. You can't just discount one form of racing while including others.

The most important thing is it would be FUN. After all that's the whole point of the game ?

Yeah they should've included this or at least the ol test track. It's a good way to set your gearing up in my opinion as well as breaking and acceleration.

I wouldn't be surprised that the absence of the max speed and acceleration tests is due to the Ferrari licence. They are just awfully strict about the performance measuring, even though they have superior handling over the other supercars e.g. Veyron and Lamborghinis.

I have to agree. It's stereotyping at it's best. I don't know how many times I have stated that not every American loves American cars, NASCAR, or drag racing. I have grown up with a love for British cars, F1, and touring car championships. This is as asinine as calling all Canadians hockey fans. All British people having horrible teeth, or all Germans leather wearing metal heads. It's just not true. Stereotyping isn't fair, it is biased, and I believe it was no place on GTPlanet.

I just think it would be cool to have a 1/4 mile track, when I make mods to my cars I want to see my gains without having to do laps on the same tracks that I've done a million times! I think online drag racing would be sick! All the other GT games have a drag strip. I don't see why some of you hate on drag racing and NASCAR, they are much more popular then touring races and far more exciting! And they sound badass! If u don't like drag racing u just wouldn't play it, no big deal! And then you wouldn't have to worry about getting smoked by an American made car you sissys! Hahaha lmao grow some balls to all of u hating on drag racing!!

To the ones bashing drag racing, saying that all you have to do is mash the throttle or modulate the throttle for traction, knows nothing about drag racing. I would like to see those people that say that to try and drive a 2,000 hp car on a 10" wide tire. Just as much tuning goes into the suspension of a drag car, as does a touring car. Yes, the race is over quick, but that also means you can't make a mistake from the start, or you are loading your car on the trailer and going home early. Driving a 7 second car on a street legal drag radial requires some steering also, trying to keep it off the wall :dopey:. I won't even get into the big boys in the NHRA, since all they do is mash the throttle, and 8,000 hp magically shoots them to 300 mph in 4.5 seconds.
