no 1/4 mile track?

I'd like to see a dragstrip with a RACE FOR PINKS option. Every race you either go home with two cars or no cars. (We might need a short clip from pinks where he says "lets race" too)

Ya, I said that before GT5 even came out in the drag race thread, but everyone said that it had to be an honor system. I would think they could ask you before the race if you if you really want to enter this race and risk your car. If you enter the race and lose, say the best 2 out of 3, or best 3 out of 5, you automatically lose you car (gets sent straight to the winner, so the loser wouldn't have a chance to screw the winner). Of coarse it would be exploited with backups, but it would still be nice if the winner received the car, even though the loser could get it back with a backup save.

To the ones bashing drag racing, saying that all you have to do is mash the throttle or modulate the throttle for traction, knows nothing about drag racing. I would like to see those people that say that to try and drive a 2,000 hp car on a 10" wide tire. Just as much tuning goes into the suspension of a drag car, as does a touring car. Yes, the race is over quick, but that also means you can't make a mistake from the start, or you are loading your car on the trailer and going home early. Driving a 7 second car on a street legal drag radial requires some steering also, trying to keep it off the wall :dopey:. I won't even get into the big boys in the NHRA, since all they do is mash the throttle, and 8,000 hp magically shoots them to 300 mph in 4.5 seconds.

No body's talking about 2,000 hp drag cars. Now that takes some driving and some balls. GT doesn't have cars like that. They are street cars and touring cars.

But in GT, All you can do is play with the throttle for traction. The physics in GT dont capitalize on the forces that you have to fight in drag racing.

And with street cars, that's pretty much what it's all about is getting traction and going straight. And grabing gears at the right time. Not much driving involved because they are not 2,000 hp drag cars.

I talking about the people that bash any type of drag racing, real or in game. I agree that there is not much to it in gt5, but there are still some setting up and then the clutch users, like myself, there is always the possibility of a missed shift, making it interesting.

I have to agree. It's stereotyping at it's best. I don't know how many times I have stated that not every American loves American cars, NASCAR, or drag racing. I have grown up with a love for British cars, F1, and touring car championships. This is as asinine as calling all Canadians hockey fans. All British people having horrible teeth, or all Germans leather wearing metal heads. It's just not true. Stereotyping isn't fair, it is biased, and I believe it was no place on GTPlanet.

Or that all Germans are rotten pieces of ****

That's what's up!! ^

Hell yea!

I really wish there was a test track for your cars. O-60, 0-100, 0-100-0, top speed and slalom course, something that could keep track of your cars performance and keep records for you to reference, like it used to be. You could try different mods and get a clear sense of how it affects your cars performance.

The practice laps are useless, you might as well just do a race and earn some money and exp.

Since they didn't add any test tracks, they could of at least kept records on the different courses, or at least let you view all of your cars statistics so you can compare times.

I think they could have made that license track from the braking test available for this sort of thing (though only what like 100 meters or something?), but if you're looking for something like highway street racing SSR7 is about as close as you're gonna get, unfortunately. I know this isn't the same as a 1/4 mile but I think it's the straightest line available.

Drag racing requires a lot more than just "launch at this time, 100% throttle".

You need to set up the transmission for a solid launch, the suspension so it optimizes acceleration, LSD for getting more power to the ground, and sometimes even balast weight to keep the back-end from getting squirrely.

My current drag-test map is Indy road course, but I'd love an official 1/8, 1/4, and full mile drag race mode.

It's a Grand Touring game. Not drag racing.

I thought it was a driving simulator? Drag racing is a type of driving.

Some people like variety. A long race, followed by a short race. Sometimes a city circuit, sometimes a race track. Today a license test, tomorrow a drift challenge. Variety keeps things interesting.

To the TC: I know it's not official, but your could use the runway on the Top Gear test track. The portion of the runway available is over 1/2 mile long

Yea, Drag Racing would be a lot of fun.

But only without any aids (no traction control, no skid recovery, etc.) & forced to use manual shifting! :sly:

An official 1/4 mile drag strip would do so many things for this game:

1) Make online drag races quick, easy, FAIR and fun (instead of the haphazard use of SS7 as drag track)

2) One would be able to see mod for mod how much their acceleration has improved

3) One would be able to perfect launches (with a real tree that counted down and gave you a r/t, e/t, 60 foot, etc.)

***A two-lane drag strip should be cake to render (especially if they just bring over the old Vegas strip from GT4 and clean it up graphically)

That would be so much fun, and if they added bets with your own credits would be even better.

I would be playing all the time if they did that.

It's sad that so many people on here talk so much about cars and setups yet they have no freaking idea what they are talking about when it comes to the real thing.

I wouldn't mind seeing different length drag strips. Of course we won't, though.

Why are we talking about this again?

Who in ____'s name asked anyone here if they could drive or if they could gold the vettel challenge? The OP made a suggestion and all you can troll on and on about is about Americans and Nascar. I agree with the OP,a drag strip would've been fun. I wish PD continue adding stuff. Atleast the stuff that was GT4. GT4 was an awesome and fun game. Now before anyone trolls me to go play GT4,I would tell em,f-off... I have as much right to talk about the game as anyone who plonked down 60$ which is quite a luxury in my part of the world.
