If you can run Fallout 4/Witcher 3 you should be fine, and both those games ran around 30fps and not all that well at medium settings on the consoles

It will be a CPU bound game though, so will likely need a good multicore system

Makes sense that it'll be CPU-bound. Procedurally-generative worlds sounds a lot of load on the CPU side. I wonder if my i5 will be able to handle it...

Well the engine is certainly CPU bound
And you definitely won't need to worry about loading times or stutters from streaming in data :D

see here - running on PC dev kit, everything is generated on the fly

I see creatures going at the player, I don't see any actually doing an attack. I'm just wondering what fighting such weird creatures looks like. Does the game know how a procedurally generated animal attacks, or will they just be doing a little lunge animation.

Based on this part of the video in the dev system, there is an attack entry/animation for the creature

This looks like it might be the game that finally prompts me to buy a PS4. To be honest I'm mostly keen to see how detailed, diverse and convincing the environments are given that they are procedurally generated. That's what I find most interesting.

If you've held off for this long it might be worth hanging on to see if the PS4 Neo is released in 2/3 months.

I might have to hold off for a while anyway since I've got a couple of big bills to pay over the next few weeks.

To be honest though, I'll probably just buy the cheapest PS4 I can, I really don't game that often anymore, GT Sport doesn't really appeal and the only other game I'm waiting for is the Red dead follow-up. I don't have - and don't plan to buy a 4K TV anytime soon - and I'm unlikely to invest in PSVR anytime soon either. I'm not sure what the other benefits of the Neo are.

Neo is just one of those slightly above average then what is out there now. Might see some improvement in graphics and slight increase in power but (Given that Sony did say it is supposed to work along side with what is out there now) It's not worth it if you don't have a 4K or VR.

Do you have a PC? There is a PC version, Steam or GOG

That's not a bad suggestion 👍

No idea what this old girl is capable of for gaming, Cities Skylines is the only game I've ever played on it! I do prefer gaming from my Sofa, in front of my big TV with my proper sounds system, rather than from this desk in my 'study' though.

man there is some really old footage in that video from the IGN demo playthroughs

Horrible trailers by Sony....

Hello Games should be doing them, the ones on their YT channel are much better!

I think one of the comments in the Eurogamer article made it very justified on the delay, and it's that it gives PC gamers the opportunity to determine whether the game lives up to the hype. Though it appears the delay doesn't really matter much, as pre-orders are rolling in like crazy on Steam.

It was discussed a few pages back. Sean has already tweeted this story is incorrect and there isn't an issue.

I'm glad really as it means Hello Games can concentrate now on supporting the game and starting work on thier next project.
Ah, my fault. I saw the news article and it said it was published 4 hours ago.. therfore making me think it was new news.

Still on topic, I did see that tweet, but thought it could be typical PR of "oh no we did nothing wrong."

I'm wondering if those instructions on the bottom right of the screen can be disabled. I remember Sean saying in one of the earlier interviews, that he wanted to keep everything open to exploration, and not providing any instructions as to how everything is done. But this is quite the opposite...

Maybe it's like the tutorial on how to play the game? Then after that it's all what you choose to do?

No problem and my initial thought was similar to yours. Hopefully the tweet was correct and Sean up to now has been pretty straight with fans and doesn't seem to be one who would pull his punches when it comes to claims like this.

However you never know 100% and when a large release like this is happening Sony would put a lot of weight behind it to make sure it gets a release.

I think those instructions are quest related, perhaps a trader can give you a quest which you can accept and complete in return for resources. Regardless I imagine there's a HUD-less option.

Sean said that there wouldn't be any quests since he wanted to do more of do what you please instead of following a story line kind of thing.

Edit: Gamestop has some more Limited Editions on the site now again. So if you are wanting to get one right now would be the time.

I know I am going to try to sneak one when I go to get it on Aug 9th. Maybe I can trade it in and get the LE.

Things about to get real, soon

For those who want to know how I got it. It went up on eBay and the seller lived 90 miles from me. We met at the halfway mark. He bought it from a guy on Craigslist. He had just started playing when I messaged him that I was ready to meet up. He said the servers are live.

I should be on in about an hour or so.

edit - I wonder if this is the listing? $2000...

edit 2- that's the guy's listing, he got two offers for $1250, and he paid $150.... so he won't be showing much.. :(

but he did say

My quick impressions
1. Don't expect mind-blowing graphics out the box
2. Don't expect to take off flying when the game starts. Must put in work
3. Game was extremely smooth. No frame rate issues at all
4. Expect to possibly not fire up another game for a while. I could tell in my short time that this game is gonna destroy some relationships and happy homes.

Don't like the "This game is gonna destroy some relationships"

I got a good thing going now and that's just because there hasn't been much out there now. Except that Poke Go (But even then that's getting kinda boring)

I also wonder about the flying too. (Since I pre-ordered it) and going to get a upgraded something or other if I could fly right away or if it's there but have to "unlock" it in game.

Graphics, Well can't be GTS style but it's not borderlands style.

I think the preorder ship is most likley a blue print you have to craft?

Also that Engine repair part up above might be a tutorial "quest" on your starter planet

---

Things are getting stranger. Turns out the guy who paid $1250 for that No Man's Sky on Ebay and will have it Fedex'ed to him overnight, and he's going to be playing it and posting vids :)

So the trail goes - someone on Craigs List sold the original NMS to someone, who then sold it to another on Ebay for $150, who picked it up in person the same day, and then later resold it on Ebay for $1250 that day, after having played an hour or so if that..... :dopey:

Apparently that guy streamed some 5 mins of it on Twitch before getting it nuked

ahh beaten :)

It looks pretty good to me!

Worth watching, no real spoilers, but gives you a feel for the game.
There is no intro movie, it just dumps you straight in
