Storyline, no not really. But there are goals and things to do, at least in the beginning of the game. Such as fix your ship, leave the planet, investigate a signal or things like that. But I suppose those things might be more along the lines of tutorials.

One of the drivers to keep you engaged is discovery, I would say. The desire to see what is on the next planet. And you'll need to keep resources and replenish consumables and whatnot so that keeps you occupied. You may also want to save up for a ship you like.

Just hoping that exploring around, building up my arsenal will be enough to hold my interest. 2 more days. :)

Haven't played this yet since I'm one of those people that still can't afford a PS4 and I doubt my PC would handle it without ruining the experience. But I watched Jacksepticeye play a little last night and as a Subnautica player I got very similar vibes from this game. The basic survival / gathering mechanics are almost identical. Huge fan of Subnautica, so this one should suit me as well. Just gotta save my pennies...

I compared it to Subnautica myself, although I played Subnautica on the Xbox One and it's unfinished and kinda unplayable. It is similar in many ways, just in space I guess. You like Subnautica, you will probably like this.

Was exploring a planet and through unlocking a code I got the beacon of a stranded ship. Went there and found this:

Goodbye

Also more technology on board so I decided to swap my inventory and take ownership. Then of course since it was stranded, I couldn't fly. After an hour of walking and finding very interesting stuff I found a ground station with a market. Bought all the things I needed and to my surprise when I walked out on the other side there was a platform. Made a bypass chip and called my ship to come to me.

Also saw this weird looking thing

Yeah it's not finished, there's really no story line to play through just yet. They're still concentrating on populating the world and fixing bugs. They also really need to work on LOD's.

I'm hoping to get a PS4 around GT Sport release, so I'll pick this up then as well.

I started on a planet that was called Paradise. Was perfect starting one. Not too hot and not too cold and everything is within reason. Looking around now.

I found a few suit upgrade slots, however have yet to find any ship slots yet.
Getting annoyed since I found Nickel and Aluminum and I am running out of space.

Are all the planets terrestrial? If so...that's kinda....boring
I guess I was hoping for something like Mass Effect in the sense that you'd get to explore gas giants and stuff.

Sean Murray said there are planets with water across all their surface (if I'm not mistaken). Never heard about gas giants though.

Find a crashed ship with bigger cargo or buy a new one. I'm saving up for a new one now, currently just over 1 million. Almost there :D

Haven't seen planets with much water yet but big enough to get me wet.

Well I just started and well I found more other things than ships and whatnot.
I guess the best thing is to keep moving towards the center more than to sit around at your starting planets?

It's here, day one patch installed and PS4 turned off until tommorow :(

Not sure if that's the best way. Sometimes I walk from question mark to question mark and see what comes into my path. Sometimes taking over a beacon gets you interesting things. And I usually sell all the things I find and buy them back when I need them. Didn't get me in trouble so far and my bank account is going great :p

I'm currently stuck though, can't find anti matter for warp drive.

I got a warp drive from the pre order ship (I think) or it was from one I bought. (I don't remember)
Might play some more tonight.

Strange no one has mentioned this bit of controversy: http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-multiplayer/ Two people set up to meet each other, and both were streaming on Twitch as well. And when they did, neither of them saw each other, nor saw the changes they can make to their world. From the beginning people sort of knew that the game wasn't meant for multiplayer, but this topic blew up anyways.

Curious to hear what kind of settings you have to use with a GTX970 to get a solid 60 fps.

Hopefully it's high settings at 1080p 60fps. After all, the 970 is basically the most popular GPU.

No Man's Sky is a Single Player Game! The online components are there to keep a database of planets discovered that's it and that's all. Proof:

From Shawn Murray's own mouth: (watch until 4:24)

I've never pre-ordered a game on Steam before!

Will it allow me to start downloading the game before the 12th so it's ready to go when it hits midnight? Or will I only be able to start downloading then?

I was referring to that on my post a page or two back...There is a massive 🤬 fight on the Steam forums about it...Enter there at your own risk ! Real headache inducing stuff .

If you pre-order the game will pre-load. Basically means it'll download the entire game, but it'll be locked until release date. This way people who pre-ordered will have a slight advantage to play first, as people who didn't will have to put up with server load from all the people downloading the game at once.

Can I choose what drive it preloads on to? I don't see any options at the moment.

OMG!
My starter planet, a bit toxic.

Now I need a cool ship like this
28815765801_cae183dd9a_b.jpg

But I only have 500k units so that won't work. Let's do some mining :p
I forgot to screenshot my first few planets. Fortunately, they looked similar to these pictures.

My second planet had hardly any Plutonium. Which really sucked because I had no fuel for my launchers. Finally founf enough to get to a different planet. Which also I cannot currently find any plutonium. This is wonderful. I have enough fuel to get me to maybe two more planets. DAMMIT!

I have seen 3 planets so far and all have been gorgeous and colourful. I started on a green lush planet with several small animals, then a snowy colourful place with zero life and finally another lush location with grass everywhere and animals which were intent on killing me. I had never seen them attack in any footage to date but on that planet all bar a dog-type-thing which I fed tried to kill me.

I am really enjoying it so far. My brother has been screwed with dull toxic planets which causes me to send him PSN messages of my latest screenshots just to rub it in!

All of those are issues due to the PS4 (FOV aside).

And yet developers such as Naughty Dog are capable of achieving much better graphics while keeping pop-in nonexistant and maintaining a near perfect 30FPS.

I'm not knocking No Man's Sky, as I haven't tried it, but clearly it's possible to get more out of the PS4 than they did.

As long as the gameplay is good, then most can be forgiven.

I believe you can. But you may have to set up a Steam Library on a different drive via Settings.

Well, Uncharted 4 isn't procedurally-generated, and the worlds are practically entire planets. In addition, Hello Games is a small indie team compared to Naughty Dog.

Spent some time watching gameplay videos today. I have to say, I'm more intrigued now than ever before. Will be a cool game to just chill, build, explore, and battle if I choose. :)

I got the game yesterday enjoying it so far, I got some postcards as a pre-order bonus even though I didn't pre-order (can take a pic if anyone wants a look). Also got possibly the worst credit boost code a whopping 10,000 credits lol. Is anyone else getting crashes? Yesterday I got 1 hard crash just walking about and a standard crash while using FTL drive.

Edit:just started playing today and 25 mins in another hard crash
