No mirror on roof cam is silly, causing accidents

It's just getting silly now, Roof Cam drivers like myself are basically driving blind out there. Getting into multiple accidents daily because I can't keep an eye on where the other cars are.

I was in a race where the leader was about to lap me and because I was trying to keep track of his position by looking backwards I touched the grass, spun in front of him and wrecked his car.

The amount of stress of having a driver tailing you into a corner and not knowing if he jumped out to attempt a pass is unbelievable. I've chopped the nose off of countless cars because I had no idea they had attempted to pass. If I had a mirror I could see them.

Radar is garbage. You can't judge how close they are properly. You can't properly tell that they're trying to make a move or not it's just not the same as having a mirror. Besides this is a racing Sim, not a fighter jet sim, there's no place for radars. It's a unnatural and in no way a replacement for the mirrors

Radars unnatural, but using a camera floating behind and above the car instead of the drivers view camera to drive isnt. OK then.

That was what Kaz said, I don't think that makes sense though. The amount of crashes it would stop in each race alone seems more important than caring what views people use.
It probably would become the view of choice for most. I use bumper but I'd switch if hood had a mirror. Personally I'd prefer it too, but they have given their reasons and it's hard to argue they're not correct in what the outcome would be. I would like to know why it's so important to em that there's a spread of views used though

Yep, we really need that rear view mirror for this camera view. I hate having to look back every few seconds when in a close battle with someone, it takes away your focus on the track in front of you every time, causing you to make mistakes sometimes. And not seeing divebombers coming from far behind is a pain as well. You turn in and suddenly there's a car hitting your side. I really don't get why they don't just add this as an option. Now most people are using the normal/bumper view, is that what they want?

I am really not a fan of using the radar, maybe I'm just not used to it yet but I find it hard to see with my peripheral vision, so in that sense I find it much easier to use the mirror at the top of the screen. I don't really want to take my eyes off the road in front of me for too long.

I am a hoodcam user since 2014. How about assigning the 'look back' to a button which is easily accessable. I am used to press R2 (wheel) and R1 (pad) quickly to get a picture about what is going on behind me and then decide what move to do. You can even look back during a long braking zone. If you have problems with divebombers, then dont get into a position where you can get divebombed.
I dont use the radar, i rather have TC or the fuel map info instead. I got my SR to S after 3 races or so.... I dont see any problem

Never felt the need for that. You should know when someone is next to you...

No offense, but that sounds ridiculous. You can’t know if someone is there unless you can physically see them in some way. The mini map doesn’t give any sense of distance so it doesn’t help and the view doesn’t show even close to enough to the point where it would help.

Definately need a mirror on roof cam, games are too hard to use the in car cam as its not active and you only have a small window too look through, Hood cam is amazing as you can place your car exactly where you want it. Bumper cam is too low and crests are wayy too blind, and Angel cam is just wrong, plain wrong

Are you talking about the cockpit cam?
EDIT: If yes, then I fully understand your arguement.

Not cockpit, the roof cam. In cockpit you can look side to side. You can’t do the same on roof cam yet you can’t see the sides of your car.

you can choose how close or far to place the 3rd person camera in advanced camera settings. between the map, radar, and flick checking the rear view on straights, you should be able to figure out where everyone is.

if that's not good enough, use a different camera view but i've never had issues knowing where everyone was at while staying on the road.

Use a different camera.

It’s not exactly easy to change a camera after using it for years. Also, you were always able to look left and right up until GTS which is why it doesn’t make ensemble.

If by third person camera you mean the chase one, that’s not the one being discussed. We’re talking about the roof one. Maybe you can move it further back so I’ll check it out, but it’ll still take some getting used to and I still don’t know how much is actually visible. The advantage of the roof camera was always the ability to have a good view while keeping things fairly realistic. Hopefully changing it won’t change that.

There's purposely no mirror in hood/roof cam to encourage ppl to use different views. I'm not sure why PD care though

IF "Roof" Cam was properly migrated to "Rear-Of-Hood-At-Dash-level" Cam like every other game,
or a proper "Dash" cam view that is properly natural when you're using a wheel (Like DIRT RAlly)
The driving view would be awesome.
For those without huge triple monitors, the in-car view is just not natural.
why Do I have to see two sets of arms and two wheels....?

C'mon PD, fix the views

Here's where they should be, like every other game

im on cockpit, but when using car like huracan gt4,theres no rear mirror.

slowly adapting the radar feature

the radar is too short... it's actually the audio cue of the other car's throttle that makes me check the radar. i check the rear view on the straight, listen on the corner... if i hear another rev thats not mine i glance at the radar to see if the guy is dive bombing or on the outside... then i use the throttle to ease off or increase to draw a consistent radius around the corner so we don't collide... lose or gain, i have to keep a consistent radius or else there will be impact.

I use the radar with hood/roof view, and L2 on my T300 to look back (which I probably press at least a thousand times a race). For me at least (and for many others) it is impossible to know if a car darts left or right just before the apex of a corner which is where most crashes happen. You can have your eyes glued to the radar and be compulsively looking back, but there are some moments where you just absolutely can't at all. Having a mirror in your pheripheral vision solves this problem.

Honestly, the reasoning PD gave for not allowing a mirror is not that logical. I wonder if Kaz used this view would things be different? It seems like he has a grudge on it or something... and what else is annoying is that we don't get a full RPM display.

I know that's the official reason. But it's stupid...
Without triple monitor it's very hard to use cockpit view and bumper view is as unnatural as roof view.
In modern racing, categories like GT3, GTE, GTLM or so make rear view cams mandatory. The last Audi R18s had cameras for the rear and to the blindspots from "A pillars" of the cockpit. But is unnatural a rearview mirror on a video game! Maybe people start using the angel view will be more "natural".
What's next PD? Make it completely impossible to play with DS4, as his unnatural? They are doing a good job on that way with brake and throttle control with the paddle buttons.

Never said it was wiseguy

It's a unnatural and in no way a replacement for the mirrors

Umm... Yes, yes you did. You used the EXACT word 'unnatural' in describing the radar.

Personally I use bumper cam, but I can see the argument for the mirror to be there - although have no problem using the radar or the blind spot indicators. If someone is passing you, that's their responsibility to pass when it's possible - as such the radar should suffice.
