no more Ferrari F1 cars

That's the point, they are technically not F1 cars. They are fictional cars resembling F1 cars assigned to no manufacturer. A lawsuit would be pointless for this reason, because it's a loophole which doesn't break copyright or licensing laws of any manufacturer.
Lawsuit, probably not. Legal pressure? Most certainly. The things PD tried to get away with for GT3, and how different territories had different content as a result, should make it clear that they can't just perfectly recreate a car, put it in a extremely high profile game, call it something else and expect to have plausible deniability. Especially since PD probably wants to have a healthy relationship with car manufacturers.

Even though the content is different, the Polyphony001 the PAL people received was a higher-nose version of one of the F094s and Polyphony002 is literally F688/S.

I guess Formula GT car was made to avoid further legal issues had they continued with the PAL F1 cars in GT4. 💡

I've long felt that the pre-1980s era of F1 was woefully represented in video games. The Light Car Company Rocket is one of my favorite cars in GT6 but it's obviously just a track-toy that looks like an early 60s Formula car. I'd love to get 1960s and 1970s era F1 cars in a game.

Shoot I was really disappointed in F1 2013 because it's "Classic" F1 cars were mostly from the 1980s and they only included two "Classic" F1 tracks on the disc. The DLC added a couple other tracks and cars, but none of them from the era I want to drive in.

There was a licencing issue, as Codemasters currently holds the F1 licence to make F1 games and to include F1 cars in them. Apparently, the reason was that by adding more F1 cars, PD would be infringing on the licence that they don't hold, which can cause legal issues.

False. Forza has 5 or 6 F1 cars.

There's this, it's an old PC game but should run on newer PCs.

There's another one on the PS Store too, can't remember what it's called though. A PS2 port for not too much 👍

Real Racing 3 recently also added 3 Ferrari F1 cars from different era's but they never used the name F1 also for licencing issues I think. The 2014 model is just named the Ferrari F14T

It's a mobile Wikipedia page, but you can just type in "Grand Prix Legends" game on Google.
That explains it. GPL is indeed really good, and there's lots of mods out there to make it look less old.

There's also an Isle of Man course mod

(But that's another topic ;))

FS7
The CM excuse doesn't make sense.
GT5 had the 2007 & 2010 Ferrari F1 cars, how does CM's license of the current season affects the inclusion of older F1 cars that were in the previous game?
I can't speak for the current game, but I know F1 2013 included 5 or 6 older F1 cars & tracks as part of a DLC./Packaged copy. So, the F1 license may apply beyond the current season.

I would rather see a series of Formula GT cars that tells the evolution of F1 cars from 50s to today. :)

That would be great! One or two from each decade would be enough, and a bunch of liveries for each that are vaguely similar to real period f1 liveries lol. I would be very happy with that!

thats t he main reason im switching to iracing is for the 3 f1 cars and the ir05 indycar.. i loath the switch cuz id much rather race those cars in gt6 with boost and slip on high but im just so sick of the physics updates ruining tunes and lack of other formula cars to drive

I don't like the subscription part of iRacing, but I absolutely loved the realism of the physics when I tried it at a friend's place. I don't have a good pc to take advantage of pc sims atm, otherwise gt6 would never get played lol.

Forza 5 seems to have a few very nice F1 cars, I'm envious of that and the livery editor they have over there, but I can't justify buying an xbone just for Forza, when it seems all cross platform games, including Project CARS (my most anticipated game of the current gen so far), will be better on ps4. If Turn10 brought out Forza games on ps4 I would buy them in a heartbeat. IMO Forza started off not as good as Gran Turismo, but currently they are way ahead. Obviously gt6 has things I like which fm5 doesn't, but fm5 also has things I like that gt6 doesn't. I just think Forza is currently ahead in the physics department, and while it doesn't have as many cars, the ones it has are the ones people want, whereas gt6 has some of the cars people want, and about 700 that most people don't care too much about lol.

I wouldn't be so sure about the physics, in reviews they said cars don't behave that well.

Well I wouldn't say forza is ahead.

But you actually said "in reviews" not "IMO", which would suggest bias, as I've never seen a review saying FM5 has worse physics than GT6. Every review I've read/watched has explained in quite good detail where Forza has BETTER physics, not worse.

Would you like some links? There was even a lengthy discussion on this very forum if I remember correctly.

I think PD just couldn't keep its license. I have the same feeling with the lack of the TGTT and FPV cars from GT5 and GT4 respectively.

I also think that's why Infineon Raceway hasn't returned from GT4 (though its now called something else). The Audi R8s Infineon logos are barred out.

It probably isn't a case of "can't" keep their licence as much as they probably thought they could spend that part of the licencing budget elsewhere. I do miss all of the things you just mentioned though :(

I recall that GT5 Prologue had the Ferrari F2007. Perhaps the licensing deal from that time only lasted until GT5 came out, and then Codemasters took it away in late 2010?

All I know is that it sucks we cant have Ferrari F1 anymore. I remember the glitch in GT5 that allowed us to drive any car on track with the F1 Ferrari's online. That was fun to race the Formula GT VS F2007 its a real shame cant do that any more. LOTUS 97 VS FGT VS F10 VF2007 would be alot of fun in the lobbies. I remember one day I hopped in a Toyota GT One with stage 3 turbo and smoked some beginners in F2007s those were the days. :sly:
