No split difference time

How very dare you!
This is quite difficult to explain but I'll do my best and it probably doesn't deserve its own thread but I don't know what thread to post it in.

I've just been trying to set a better time in the tuned car and I was on a lap where at the first split I was definitely slightly faster than my PB I had set a few laps before and I was sure I extended that lead in the 2nd sector right up to the ponit where you get the 2nd split time (down the short straight in the middle of the circuit) as it displayed the split time (which is white) but it didn't display the split difference time (which is red if your slower or blue if your faster). I then completed the lap just to make sure I got the split difference times at the other splits and I did but because I was so distracted at the 2nd split all my good work was lost .

I can only guess this was because I didn't actually do as well as I thought in the 2nd sector and must have lost a bit of time resulting in the extremely rare occurrence where my time at the 2nd split must have been exactly the same as the one on my PB lap. The thing is though that I'm sure I have done the same thing on time trials on GT5P and I'm pretty sure it displays 00:00.000 in red as apposed to nothing at all.

So my question is has anyone else noticed this and if so do you think it was because of setting exactly the same time? As I said it is probably very rare for anyone to set exactly the same fastest split times so I'm not expecting many of you to have experienced this but I can’t be the only one.

I have also lost split times once after a big "lag"! It was a quick lap and the lag was maybe 1 second! The lap after the split times was back...

I also had this a couple of times.
I also had it once, that i was always around 1.5-2 seconds faster than my best time according to the splits and at the end i was slightly slower. I had to quit the demo completely to get rid of this bug.

i had that a couple of times too. always it´s was enough to go back to the main menue and to start then the session again?!?

Strange, i dunno, i had to start the whole demo again, not really a big problem though, since it only takes a couple of seconds.

Oh so it seems it might actually be a bug in the system, I didn't want to say that as I thought it was more likely to be a mistake on my behalf, but I was very confident I was at least 1 tenth faster by the 2nd split. If it is indeed a bug that would have made it even more annoying but I have since beaten my previous PB by 2.5 tenths so it’s not so bad, I just hope it doesn't again when I'm on a good lap.

Yeah when you match your split time there is no gap displayed. I believe it was like this in Prologue also 👍

Thanks Maz I thought that was most likely to be the case, I couldn't be certain if it does that on GT5P as setting the same time doesn't happen all the time and it's been a while since I last did a time trial on GT5P.

Actually, interesting point in the demo, if you run the exact same personal-best laptime within the same session, it DOES display splits at the line...except the gap shown is to your previous best lap time.

So for example:

1'36.100
1'36.050 (-0.050)
and then if you run the same laptime again...
1'36.050 (-0.050)
it shoes the -0.050 in light blue again, even though you haven't improved on the most current PB...which is really annoying because I have managed to run the same PB THREE times in one session, then cross the line and see light blue splits, get excited, and realise I've only matched my previous best...

Ah so if you match your fastest time at splits 1,2,3 or 4 the gap difference is not displayed but if you match the fastest lap time at the finish line it displays the same gap difference you got on your previous (equal) fastest lap... that is annoying. This is starting to make sense now but I think it would be less confusing and less demoralizing if it just displayed 00:00.000 in red at the splits & finish line.

Id love to see realtime deltas displayed, with the option of setting them for your own PB or the current ghost. Thatd be cool.

👍 Yes, I've always thought it would be a great idea to see my gap to the ghost more than just visually judge it from the ghost. Sometimes it can act as an illusion when you close up at turn 8 and see them disappear at turn 11, can misdirect you as to where your relative strengths and weaknesses lie.

Btw Pez, great times on the UK leaderboard, you made the national finals last year right?

Cheers Maz, slowly creeping up on the times over the last week! Just started in earnest with the tuned car last night. Its nice to have some grip!

I was fortunate enough to qualify last year, and loved every minute of it. I just wish Sony had the open bar AFTER the comp rather than before it!

Air is pretty thin in the top 20, i think its going to get a bit hairy over the next few days!

Just for info and to add to Synwraith's post.
In GT5Prologue if you reach the split marker at the same time as your previously fastest lap in the same session the display time is white, that's all.
I did it a couple times last week.

And put in a pretty impressive performance if I remember correctly. 👍

Exactly! Although I think they must have known that the resulting release of pressure after that final would have run up a fair old bar bill! :boggled:

Oh yes, I'm expecting big action this weekend.

Best of luck but don't go too fast ;)

Alex lives less than a mile away from me and I'd never met him or heard of him ever before meeting him at last years final. How bizarre is that ! It would be great if 2 people from the same little city made it again. Good luck Alex and good work at homing in on the qualifying positions.
