Looks like the French GP is off for next year according to Autosport magazine UK.
Any thoughts on this?
''Only'' 17 races next year:( now.

Mr E owns Paul Ricard hmmmmmm..... Interrresting.:odd:

IMO it just shows that this whole 'sport' is about money now. Notice how they're moving in to all the money potential country's now that are willing to pay big bucks, e.g. Bahrain etc. I mean come on. I bet half the people of Bahrain don't know that cars even exist :odd: . Just my take on it. Also another good example. I think the track that they really need to loose is Monaco. I don't think I've ever seen an existing race their in my life time. The cars are too advanced for an old track. Bad pit complexs. You can probably barely get 2 F1 cars side by side on the track. The only thing it's good for is money, and promotions and for the rich to show off! Just my take on everything :) .

I think it's fair enough that if the race promoters don't pay the fees, they have the race taken away from them. My sources tell me that the organisers of the French GP are $16m in the red, which is not an insignificant amount.

wee_man: F1 is an expensive sport, and teams and sponsors do more business at the Monaco GP than at all other races combined. As for whether the races there are exciting, I think that if you're not excited by the idea of these hyper-fast, hyper-fragile machines charging around a street circuit, then you're probably not identifying with the human stresses of driving these things.

I would like to see a return to more exciting circuits, ones where the drivers' skills and bravery are tested, not just their precision and consistency. I can't agree that the Magny-Cours race is a big loss.

But I think you'd agree with me that, I'd prefer to see a track which may not be 'exciting' for the drivers, but would provide a lot more overtaking, than a track which may be 'exciting' exciting or the drivers rather than no overtaking :) .

Ahh I just want more races. But I agree with both of you yes apparently Magny Cours owe 'F1' an amount of money thats fair enough, but yes these new venues do deserve a race but I was watching the Moto GP from Malaysia a short while ago and I've seen more spectators for a qualifying session at a winter club race. On TV the commentators just never mention it (the lack of crowd) even at more trad events like Monza for instance, maybe there ''talking the events up''?

I agree - although the circuit's quite fun in Grand Prix 3 and 4, it did produce some of the most stultifyingly dull grands prix of the 1990s, and 2001's shocker which would go close to the most grand prix of all time.

according to the media...........ferrari not winning

but what does make a good gp, i guess its different for everyone

i reakon overtaking and good pit stagegty. i dont know if anyone can remember the first few laps of this years australian gp, but it was awesome. the top 5 cars were overtaking eachother, it was happening left right and centre, and of all things mark webber was ctching up to michael schumacher
