Not a bash at the damage..

But how many times did you try to make a hanging bumper fall off a car around the first time you played GT5?

I probably rammed it like 50 times on daytona going head on with a skyline. It was around that time when some of us thought that the damage got better the more you leveled up. I hit level 20 and after 5 minutes of crashing, I gave up and figured I had to get to 30..

The rally cars seem to damage better and easier, than road cars. Was this level linked to damage actually proved? I know there was talk, and confusion about it.

No. When you think about it, it doesn't make any sense. That's like having to level up in order to unlock the options menu..

It has been disproved multiple times, nothing changes.

I wish there was an option to turn it off (maybe there is and I'm an idiot). It's garbage and the cars I like melt when damaged and look incredibly strange when it happens

I'm kind of glad the damage model works the way it does in GT5. If it were more realistic, then more players in online lobbies would be trying to intentionally damage other players' cars.

It's kinda ironic, that gamers like you (and me) are the very reason companies like Ferrari goes: Our car in GT5 with full damage modeling? NOOOOOO WAAYYYY !!!

PS! Also important to notice is: Neither GT5 or Forza 4 (the 2 biggest in the industry), has gotten licence for Porches.... makes you think......

Well, not the very reason.

EA has Porsche for now which is the reason for the absence of them.

Rally cars are the only models that allow bumpers to come off. I knew that before I cared to purposefully damage my car in GT5. I focused more on the racing aspect.

I hope that with the new update the mechanical damage will become more realistic. I mean they promised engine stalls and whatnot before the release but right now when you drive 200mph to the wall you can keep on driving without a problem.

I did this the other day.

But it is also completely undrivable, the graphics aren't as good and the damage is a bit lame in a different way. That said... should Polyphony have a word with them I sure they could teach each other something and help GT5 understand about tracks and car choices and NFSS2 learn something about realistic handling!

I quite liked the graphics in Shift. They are technically no where near the quality of GT's cars or Forza's tracks, but the design and style where more 'alive' if that makes sense. The handling was very subjective, once you get used to it, it can be fun.

The point I was making though is that they had both Porsche and damage, meaning that this is not the reason why Turn 10 and PD had difficulty with the license, it seems it was purely down to EA's hold on it.

As for rally cars, I imagine that they were given permission to allow for more damage as they are not sold to the public and won't harm the image as much.

undrivable? far from it , its a very fun game
bad graphics? damage lamme? their damage system is way superior to GT5 . and the graphics are good their not groundbreaking but compared to some o GT5 models their way better

Then wouldn't that in turn damage theirs? Unless they use the force.

Did a 25 lap run with premium rally cars a while back and there were all sorts of damage levels. Here's my favourite grab from the whole race.

Damage looks ok on some premiums but standards will never be able to have the damage. Since all the body lines are drawn on there is no "real" trunk, doors, or hood to open.

So the opening of hinged parts is very well done imo except the melting of body panels and lights. I would rather them take this out (the melting part).

I think I read somewhere that Ferrari doesn't allow PD (and maybe Forza) to have full damage on their cars, so I think it's because licensing reasons

Many manufacturers do, Honda don't want their cars associated with police chases, so no NFS Hot Pursuit style games for them.

Imagine this, 5 friends form up a lobby and only 2 are for race, while 3 are ment to ram everyone else on their lobby, this kinda action happens alot in FM online.

Unlike T10, PD tries to make their car unique to each other, so can anyone imagine HOW much data would it need to make fully realistic damage modelling, that is why T10 uses "pre-made" damage models, which works just for any car found in their game, almost.

Yes, twisting metal is funny looking in GT5, and lights wont break, neither does windows/mirrors, but it's certain that you cannot damage your car 2 times in a row with exact the same damages, as they happen in real time.

Hold up there's a trophy that has something to do with damage. How do I get it?

Take the Focus rally car into arcade mode, do a race at Daytona and keep going backwards into other cars until your doors fall off. Trust me they will.

You heard wrong about Ferrari. There is no reason why this statement should ever be repeated about damage and the manufacturers. Unless someone has a letter head from said company.

Ferrari Challenge had it. Parts falling off and glass breaking. Granted not full damage but way better then GT5.

I will put my trust in you and try this out. Thanks
