GT4 will have to be as fun and refreshing at GT1, avoid the fallacies of GT2, and execute extreme OWNAGE to GT4.

GT4 doesn't have to do anything. If someone doesn't want to buy it, they won't. If someone buys it and doesn't like it, they'll sell it.

I don't have a problem with the delay, since a few weeks back, Europe was going to have to wait months for "localisation" issues.

Now the game went Gold, but now it's not anymore, how does that actually happen?

I'm sure there is something really weird going on here... This isn't just a normal bug hunt or error I would guess. How could it have gone Gold in the first place if it still had bugs in it.
They've had over a year of delays, and in that time could have been checking and bug fixing. I'd expect the version planned to be released within a few weeks for christmas in the US and Japan, was nigh on perfect for it to have gone gold.

There must be something else happening, it's not often a game goes gold, then goes back for "tweaks"...

An honest answer for the delays would be nice, but it's the usual, gameplay and quality control from Sony and PD. Why would it have gone gold if there was still so much wrong with it?

My guess is that either they are totally useless at bug testing and keeping up to projected dates, or they have finished it all, and Sony/PD have decided last minute to incorporate something they have been testing and just needs to be dropped in.

Seeing as it's a new year release, could that mean maybe a car lisencing runs out or PD get a lisence (Porsche Ferrari??), or maybe multiplayer?

Like I said, why would it go gold and then suddenly be turned around and be released again just 4 weeks later in Japan, missing the christmas boom, but going into 2005?

Something weird, I just hope they don't keep getting "new" last minute ideas every month and push it on and on and on making it better and better but never letting us use it!

I think some people misunderstood KY's words, he actually meant that the game was pretty much finished, not that it went gold.

You are not making a million dollar party in Japan just because its almost finished, KY and PD already finished the game, the only problem here is sony, and I bet all of these is because of marketing issues or some conspiracy or what the hell I dont know.... :grumpy:

i think it have to do with the production of the game.

they couldnt produce enough for 12/3

they could have done if they had wanted... obviously the christmas season isnt enough of an incentive for them to hurry the hell up

In response to Whippy's post:

Most of the factual data we've heard outside of the official press release indicates a problem in production and manufacturing, not in the game itself. There's been no indication that PD is in any way responsible, or even a part of, the delay, and most likely the game has NOT been sent back to them to "tweak" anything. Notice the press release was pretty vague, and the one from SCEA even moreso, merely babbling some nonsense about "ensuring that customers recieve the highest quality blah blah blah".. same thing they spout off about any and all games.

The SCEA testing facility indicates the game has already completed final testing for the U.S., and that it's good-to-go. My guess is that there was some sort of problem in manufacturing in Japan.. possibly an issue with squeezing a 9+GB game on a disc, or simply a scheduling problem at the manufacturing plants. The only impact it has on the U.S. release is that SCEA is probably under direct orders from Sony Corporate to not release the U.S. version until after the Japanese version. Hence the wide-open "Q1 2005" release date given by SCEA, since they're waiting for SCEJ to get the game in stores in Japan, and there's no telling when that's going to be. For all we know, there might already be millions of copies of GT4 sitting in a warehouse somewhere in America, simply waiting for the Japanese manufacturers to get off their butts and get the damn thing made.

Assuming the current Japanese date holds firm, I expect the American version within the first two weeks of January.
