Scary. Any damage?

When my dad was a kid, he said he saw a tornado take out everything on the opposite side of the road he was on.

That is crazy man.. The tornado here moved north before it touched the ground. Thank God.

The story: I went and grabbed some Taco Bell and seen the sky was turning black/purple and thought it would be a usual storm. (except the purple clouds were not normal.) A few minutes after I got home I looked outside and seen what I thought were clouds being sucked up into the sky.. And then realized what was happening.

A few minutes later all the clouds that were sucked up formed one huge black/purple cloud that slowly started to twirl. The tornado sirens sounded and now it's hailing like crazy. gotta go

Woah. That's scary.

Thank god Maine only averages only 2 tornados a year.

Remember, if your house is in danger...Stay away from windows and get to the lowest point in your house.

Thats sweet as hell you should have video taped it. Thank God that nothing happend to your house or anything.

The first thing I thought was: I should have a digital cam for this ****. It was eerie as hell seeing the clouds get pulled up into the sky and all the people trying to leave our neighborhood; at the same time everything was calm.. Odd. I guess the saying "the calm before the storm" is true.

Last year I was traveling down I-75 right out side of Flint, MI. I saw a tornado touch down to the east of me only 3-4 miles, definatly the scariest thing I've ever been in. I stopped my truck under an overpass and crawled up to the top. There were probably 7 other people up there. The tornado didn't come near us but it still left a huge path of distruction.

So I know exactly what you mean when you talk about tornadoes. We get them here in Michigan quite a bit, well southern Michigan. They are scary but you really can't do anything, just get as low as you can and hope of the best.

actually, you should have stopped for a water tunnel thing they put under the roads(i cant remember the name). a bridge actually creates a big wind tunnel

They always tell you that you go under over passes for some reason.

Actually, wouldn't it create a vacuum? Even though the tornado is twirling, it is also sucking air up, therfor creating a vacuum and sucking you up to the top of where you are and then you don't move because you are stuck.

idk im not the tornado expert here, why dont we ask one (Famine!!!!)

but i heard somewhere that it just makes this big wind tunnel when it goes under a bridge(same reason you should not be passing a semi in a small car when you are going under a bridge)

i used to live in illinois a few years ago. we all went to florida one summer and when we got back we found our house had a few new skylights. we got a new truck to! right in my bedroom :)

^That sucks!

Well, I'll tell you this. When your Mom, or anybody you know, is going to get married, and on their wedding day 5(count'em, 1,2,3,4,5) small tornados hit your town right after the ceremony is over......IT'S A SIGN. Is it coincedence that the marriage lasted 5 agonizing, terrible years after that..... meh, maybe.

^ Nah, that sucks.

Was it cool, how close was it?????
Yeah it was cool, I'd say roughly 3 blocks from my home. I've seen tornados before but I've never seen one form right in front of me.

Here in California we don't get tornadoes, but we do get these mini-tornadoes called "micro bursts." They look just like tornadoes, but there a lot smaller. There about three to four feet wide, and when they hit, they do little damage. Maybe an up-rooted tree, a broken window or roof shingles flown about.

We also get offshore "water spouts" which are micro bursts over the Pacific ocean.

Earthquakes can be scary, but usually there kinda fun. I imagine tornadoes don't offer any sort of fun whatsoever.

Closest thing that Las Vegas is near a tornado are dust cyclones. They are a bit dangerous because when the cyclone starts the glass starts flying around. I actually got one in my school and i got hit by flying glass particles, one actually dug in to my skin and had to pull it out with tweezers (ouch). I wanna see a tornado in real life from a safe distance though.

AZ just gets these:

Whoa! Thats crazy man.

We've had about 17 tornados roll through Indiana this past week. Luckily they were all way south of where I live. I think we (where I live) havent gotten a tornado in like 50 years.

Whats that? A dust storm er summin'?

Solid, i've lived in california for almost 8 years now and i've never felt a real earthquake, or seen one of these "micro bursts"... Odd.

Glad you're OK there Monster.

I just found out that 90% of all the worlds tornados, occur in the United States.

Ain't that a *****. :)

Yeah, it's been a while since we've had a good sized shaker. The micro bursts are very rare. The last one I read about happened a few years ago.

Did you get the stuff I sent you?
