What happens if you use a electric car such as the tesla roadster in a endurance race and you run out of battery what happens do you pit it charge the battery up or do you just stop?.

it would be in someways silly if you just got a recharge from a pit stop because in real life it would take 8 hrs or something to charge.

It switches over fully to the petrol engine and runs off that instead, you won't just stop when the electric motor runs down.

The Tesla Roadster dosn't have a petrol engine..

To try this out, before entering my Tesla to the first endurance race, I made a race in practise mode - drove a couple of laps until I could see that some of the 'electricity had been used'. Then I went into the pits to see if I could have a new bateri pack, but as I entered the track once again - the batteries hadn't been 'filled'.
To conclude this - no, I don't think that your electric car can be recharged during the race, but then again it won't stop on the track either. When you run out of juice the Tesla will just go on at about 60 km/h until you have finished..

...good point. I wonder what I was driving around Toyko with. I don't recall buying any hybrids... do the licenses use them at all?

I believe that you get to drive the 09' Honda Insight, at some point doing the license tests :)

Update 1: After 10 laps (~15 min) of Laguna Seca, half the charge is gone. I pitted but the battery does not recharge at all. Also there are no refuel option when you pit with the Tesla.

If you are refering to the seasonal event, thats a CR-Z which does have a gas engine in it.

Update 2: The Tesla runs out of charge after 30 mins of racing at a moderate pace. Bob is now cruising along at 50mph, getting passed by horses and lorries.
So no electric if you want to race and win an endurance.

Note: The battery does recharge when you brake, but not enough to keep you going

So if you want to race the Nurbergring 24H in a Tesla, then bring 48 Teslas along!
