NSX: Type S vs Type R

Hey everyone I was wondering about the difference between these 2 models. The Type R is supposed to be faster then the Type S(I think) and its more expensive then the Type S.

Anyone know what gives?
 
I believe the stock R is lighter than the s, and probably has some semi-racing components installed.
 
think of it this way:

Type S=m3

Type R=m3 CSL

but in this case they have the same power

only the Type R extensively uses carbon fiber and aluminum and other light weight materials and throws creature comforts totally out the window...

so it's lighter better handlin and faster...
 
It's has a stiffer chassis setup, far better handling but less forgiing too and as said already it's made of lighter materials.

I don't know about the type r vs the type s in GT3. But in real life the NSX-R was made to be very light, it is 265lbs lighter than the standerd model. Alot of it's weight savings come from deleting the air conditioning (42 lbs), the undercoating (39 lbs), various electrical equipment (23 lbs), the spare wheel (14 lbs) and the stereo system (13 lbs). Recaros replaced the original seats, that save another 38 lbs! The NSX-R's bumper beams were also made of aluminum rather than steel. The new wheels not only looked nice but also reduced unsprung weight by 9 lbs. But the reinforced front and rear aluminum subframes and larger shock absorbers add a little over 5 lbs. The suspensiun was worked to find the best balence between road and track use. Also some of the insulation was removed and the sound deadening matierial was compleatly gone(yeah!)

The engine was blueprinted, Traction control was not fitted to the car(then why is it in GT3?), and the final drive ratio was lowered from 4.06:1 to 4.24:1(don't know if they did this in the game though). The lsd was twice as stiff as standard, and finnaly the engine cover was been replaced with a lightweight mesh one.

On the interior the shift knob was replaced with a titanium one. The nice looking JDM steering wheel was replaced with a even better (in their opnion since we don't get JdM TyTe Stuff) Momo steering wheel. The dash looked alot better w/o controls for the air conditioning and stereo, but Honda kept the electric windows, fore/aft electric seat adjusters and the standard door handles and armrests.
 
well maybe you should drive the 1050 hp + skyline r34 and slam into the walls in corners if the nsx is so slow.

i tend to like the better handling cars and i think if they have less hp they are funner to race because you actually have to stay awake to win the race.

nah i like my 1080hp supra:drool:and 1037hp 3000gt:drool: better. i am just saying that u would expect the nsx to have a little bit more power.
 
The Nsx is a great car in the begginer leagues as it can be raced in many of the series. And don't you think it looks the nuts aswell?
 
Well I was doing some testing around with the NSX S and the NSX Type-R and found this very weird/intersting but more weird.


First the NSX Type-R Specs. It is lighter then the Type S, but thats not all.

I was shocked too find out that the NSX has a bigger engine then the NSX Type-R, whats up with that?

Could someone please explain whast going on here? I thought the Type-R was supposed to be faster, doesnt the R stand for Race?
 
Ah, the NSX. The NSX Type R is lighter than the Type S. The Type S is actually faster than the Type R. So I prefer the NSX Type S.

STi AdDiCt, just because the NSX is not turbo does not mean it is a bad car. I like turbos but I prefer NA even more than turbos. I love this car the best of any stock non-supercar and I personally think the NSX is the best of the Japanese cars.
 
This is going from memory so Iam a bit rusty but I think the Type R is an earlier model that had the 3 litre engine and 5 speed gearbox. The Type S is a later model which had the engine enlarged to 3.2 litres and had a six speed gearbox. The year that change happened was 1997 according to GT3 information about the NSX.
Notice how the bigger engine has the higher torque value at slightly less RPM.
The extra torque and extra gear make it faster.
This is for the two cars in the game.
Was there a type R with the 3.2 and 6 speed box ever made by Honda in real life?

Maybe if you would do a little testing you would realize that the nsx is capable of well over 600HP..... Did you forget that there is such a thiing as NA Tune Up??? Well.... you're probably some AzN rIceR who thinks that adding a fart pipe and intake is all that can be done to a car...... pfft. 💡
 
that might be a little harsh, i agree with you but man that is just mean. why would you want to drive a 1000 + hp car. i think the nsx fully tuned or not is a great car and somebody mentioned that you can win alot of beginner races with the nsx which i totally agree with but you can also win a lot of am. races and even some pro races if you have played the game for a while. im pretty sure i could win mr in pro with a slightly tuned nsx with t2 tires. ( not even fully tuned)

No Turbo? Of course it doesn't have a bloody turbo. It has a superior form of valve technology known as VTEC which instead of a turbo, it has the ability to rev its little head off. Also VTEC's are notoriously hard to turbo charge.

But if you have to have your turbo, then go and put one on it.

What car did you use in the NA race STiADdick.
There the ones you cant enter with a turbo car. However a stock supercharged car by some strange reason can.

Do you have anything more too say? lol, were talking about why the Type S is better then the Type R here, in the case of GT3 the NSX Type R is not as good as the Type S, or at least not as fast.

I dont think VTEC is "Superior" its just a valve timing program. Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. It just means they can get alot more power by revving the hell out of their small engines then most of the other companys can.

Really in real life are VTEC engines hard to turbo charge? I have read lots about people Turbo charging their S2ks.

Easy to boost yes... easy to tune no...

Vtec engagement and boost development are hard to both encorporate into tuning.. not easy but not impossible

as for the S2k.. because of the Very high compression nature of the engine... it requires some internal work as well... boost s2k's exist but they are having reliablility issues with them..

best engines to boost are the B18C (gsr not type R) and the H22a
