Nudity in Gym Locker Rooms and Showers

Well, I had an experience like this last Friday. It was after our first football game, and we all took a shower to before we went into the stands to watch Varsity (we're all sophomores). I walk into the shower, pretty much everyone is naked; no one stares or anything. It wasn't a big deal. The only kids who don't get naked are the "tough" ones who think it gay.

I haven't been on any sports teams that involved a gymnasium, or where we had access to showers immediately after a game or a practice. Personally, I feel that community showers are disgusting, however, I can't stop people from going in them. I try to avoid them at all costs, and shower at home when possible. This is a rather odd topic...

That's what is pretty much happens to me.

i always wear a shirt when swimming in public

What the? What's the point in that? I didn't think people swam with shirts on...

I swim with a rash vest, mainly because the only time I'm swimming is when I'm on holiday at our bach, and I don't want a painfully sore chest for days on end because of going bare back on a boogey board.

never really thought about it. But from the times that I used to go to the gym I'd strip to my waist, then wrap a towel around my waist, followed by pulling my shorts out from under them.

More out of respect for the other people in the locker room, rahter than embarrasment on my part. Much like a few other people noted here, I feel extremely uncomfortable in the presence of other naked men. In every gym I've been to, there are a slew of extra towels floating around, grab one, and wrap yourself up.

It doesn't particularly concern me if you've got bruised knees :odd More power to you. But I don't need to be shown that.

After my stint in the military, it did bother me a bit less, but not much. There is a diffence between changing your clothes and parading it around.

i think it's pretty obvious why asians don't walk around naked.

Heh, i think i know what your talking about.

And I think you should stop talking about it, right now. Get the hint, mayorbill?

Yeeeaah, but no one cares what you think... That's why they made you a Mod. ;)

Any activity that involves momentary nakedness is just not a social activity. The characterization of "going about one's business in the nude" is just weird, to me. If you must change clothes in front of others, just do it. There should be no more than 15 seconds of nudity. Keep your eyes on the floor and your mouth shut. A bunch of sweaty naked men frollicking around in the shower gives me the creeps.

Consequently when I was in highschool we were required to change and shower. You could not get out of the locker room without a towel which you could not get without taking a shower. As a freshman it was humiliating because Senior were changing in the locker room at the same time. There was every ugly stage of puberty represented there, a thing I'd be better off having never seen.

Yeah, that UV stuff'll kill ya.

I never went around naked during school PE because the rest of them were immature little bastards and since I don't really do any sort of sport I haven't really got a preference although it would probably be covered up.

Anyhow, its a horrible feeling when your drying yourself naked and then your mate accuses you of wanking :(

Your mate needs to keep his damn eyes to the floor.

Meh, doesn't bother me, if anyone says anything, I'll just come back with "If you're not gonna be man enough to do it, you must have 'something' to hide."

I couldn't agree more.👍

I'd have to say that men are a bit more uptight about this than women. The gym I used to go to had little "cubicles" that we could change in before stepping into the shower. That made it much easier to shower after a good work out.

One of my favorite jokes is "Women like to undress in front of men more than they do women. Women are critical, men are just grateful."

It doesn't bother me a whole lot to be semi-naked/naked in front of other people, but that's just me. Wasn't really that big of a deal in high school. Yes, the big girls got picked up and the thin girls were envyed.

But for the most part, you guys take it more personal than a woman does.

I agree - I think women are far more practical about this sort of thing. It's just a naked body; it can't hurt you.

Unless you want it to. :p

My partner's comments about the women's change room at the same gym would suggest the opposite.

I'd like to go in there to find out if this is the case, but I've seen some of those girls at Boxercise - I'd have no chance.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to start monitoring women's locker rooms in order to get a fair sample.

hmmm co ed changing rooms i would love that

at every gym theres always an old guy sitting on a bench naked that talks to everyone...

I never do it anymore. I had a bad experience in high school as a freshman once.

I grew up on the beach as a kid, and I would always change in the bathroom, or the changing room. It was no problem for me to be naked in front of other guys. I have been doing this since I was born, and I was used to it. Then I went to high school.

As a freshman, you had to take a swimming class, and they have it at the beginning of the year for obvious reasons, and you, of course, would change in the locker room. There was this one guy who ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, sported wood. No joke. It would ALWAYS stick straight, no pun intended, out. Now, at the age of 14, I knew this wasn't right.

I never went back in there. I wood, pun intended, change in the hallway using the "surfers changing room", a towel wrapped around your waist. I had P.E. for the full four years of high school, and I never went back into the boys locker room again. Then and now.

Funny thing I do though, is when I have to go to the doctors office. It is always so cold in there, I have to "warm up" before the doctor "sees" me. lol

I don't want him to see me pull my pants down and say, "Hey look! I found an acorn!" Again.

:D
