Nurburgring 24hr Endurance - Which Car?

Alright guys, I'm gettin' close to it. Which car should I drive that's going to be enjoyable and competitive? Competitive if I don't drive well, I will not finish first.

Really considering the Lister Storm or the Peugeot 905, neither of which I own yet.
 
Did you even read the OP's post Brazil?

Don't use your X1, that's lame. That certainly won't make it enjoyable, or competitive.

I would not recommended the Lister... I'd say the Audi R8, Puegot 905, Toyota GT-One or the Bentley Speed 8 are the best options here...
 
The GT-One is very nice to drive.
 
I did it in a stock 908 with racing soft was very close till it rained.

How can u ever say something like that? Rather stop playing if u just want to complete the races like that. In my opinion use either one of the cars the ur oppenents are using ur just a normal le mans car such as the Bentley speed 8. Thats the one i used in both le mans and nurburg 24h ;)

If it's the absolute last thing you need to do to 100% GT5, then I would use the X2010 and relieve myself of the effort of trying to challenge yourself. Although I do much prefer the fair way otherwise. The 905 will be hard to win with, the Storm is out of the question. Use a 908 or a Group C.
 
The X1 (X2010) will smoke the field. I think the OP is asking for a car that will be competitively similar to the other cars in the field. The answer, as with most questions, is, "it depends". You can race the 905, which is a great car, but if you beef it up with all the upgrades, including racing soft tyres, it may not be competetive, thereby defeating your intent. You will also want to think about rain and nighttime driving. Perhaps if you used a touring car, such as the Lexis IF Concept or the BMW GTR M3 Race Car, you might find the challenge you seek. Or, use the 905 and put racing hards on it. I'm sure you will have a good idea of the challenge after only a few laps and can quit the race, make necessary adjustments, and re-race the event.

They don't have enough downforce to keep up in the corners and they're too heavy.

I'll tell you a car that can keep it challenging - a stock Furai...it has enough downforce and though it's down on power by a long way it is just so lightweight. If it's not enough then fit it with one upgrade but don't max it out because that would be broken in my opinion.

Why would the 905 be hard to win with? I like the sound of it. Heard it in one of the races.

Been eyeing the Bentley. But I thought it was a beast?

Kinda thinking that a touring car might be the best challenge; but the Furia is a very interesting idea. Got one of those!
 
the fastest car you have to beat is the bmw mclarren R8 LMS is slow... (AI)

You got the Minolta from the Like the Wind challenge? if yes... its a good option for this race... use racing hards and dont push to hard
 
With racing soft* tyres a car like the storm may just be able to keep in range of the other cars until it rains where you will probably be a minute a lap faster then everything out there.

Also the AI cant overtake lapped cars for toffee, so you may see the AI zoom off in the distance, then immediately lose 10s trying to overtake a lapped car.

Just depends on the weather.

*Hell PD didn't bother adding wear differences to the tyres so you can have all the grip and no extra wear.
 
I'm starting to focus on the Gillet Vertigo. I enjoy the way it drives.
 
You can always do a test run with whatever you pick. By the end of the first cycle of pit stops you'll know if you're overpowering the race. You can take out some power if you need to.

i tried using an x1 and i was running slower laps than my tuned r8 just because i spun it out so much. unless you have superhuman reaction times, stay away from the x1. Reccomended cars: one of the nissan r series cars

Definitely will do the testing to see how it goes through the first pit. I really do like the Vertigo though. It's like a wild untamed beast that you have to really be careful with.

At a bare minimum. Pause so you can sleep, eat, work, etc. and you're looking at much, much longer than that. Pure racing, however, is 24 hours.

Yeah, I'm looking at two consecutive days 7a.m to midnight and I MIGHT get through it. I'll be off work both days. Don't know if I can do more than a 2hr stretch in one sit down. 2hrs break, 2hrs break. something along those lines. Probably 6 hrs then long break of 1 or 2 hrs.

This isn't forza. No 50 lap cap here.

I'd use an x1 simply because the challenge would come from actually doing this race but what do I know i'm only level 35.
 
I'm about to write up a review of the Gillet Vertigo. I've had it a little while and haven't tried it until a couple days ago. Tried the Bentley Speed 8 a couple days ago too. Vastly different cars. The Vertigo is a pocket rocket but highly unstable. I figure the main task will be to keep her under control for 24hrs, but I don't want to lap the field. Want to be on the same lap the whole time. And IF something unforseen happens and I get down; the Vertigo has the giddy-up to recover.
 
This thread in some way illustrates why they shouldn't introduce in race saves for endurance events. They have a habit of separating the die hards from the casual gamers. I did the 9h @ Tsukuba in 3 or 4 stints over a 24 hour period and that feels like the limit of my endurance, so hat's off to anyone contemplating doing this over 2 days. I'd like to think I could have a crack at it, but I think if my family realised what was up to, it might trigger an 'intervention'.

I'm at the end of a 12hr shift at work...really, really tired and giddy. That almost, almost had me rolling on the floor! :)
 
Thing is, I'm not sure if it's a joke!

I was testing the 908 the other day, just to get a feel for it, the track and my new wheel. First impressions are that I need a stable tune for it if I'm not going to do a 'McNish' at every other corner.

Slightly left of topic, there ought to be an option for your bobs to do a stint or 3, like in the old days. Maybe then you could run it in 24 hours straight.

Mind you, I bet there are people who have done so, all by themselves.

yaa, I was just going to say the same thing. Cant be good for my ps3 to stay on for like 72hours straight just for this one race lol
 
I'm gonna try the 24H races with the Audi R10, stock, with RH or RM tyres or a combination between them, with TC-3 and SKF on.

If I fail, I'll give a try with a stock Mazda 787B, but without the SKF.

I'll do the race for around 5~6 days - 4~3 hours per day, driving.

Regarding the OP: I am thinking about trying this race with either the Mercedes CLK DTM car or the BMW M3 GTR. My current experience (from doing the 4h Nürb a few times and practicing on the 24h-layout) tells me I should be able to achieve about 170 laps in 24 hours, but neither rain nor night racing is part of this calculation.

From watching videos in youtube It seems that you can win with as little as 163 laps, but other people had opponents which did 171 laps. Unfortunately, they don't show how much rain was involved.

Am I right in assuming that I probably need to pay attention to the opponents the game chooses? Does my car selection affect the choice?

Your car selection SHOULD determine the AI cars, but sadly does not. That would certainly increase replayability.
